Seven Tropes of Brandon Sanderson
gjustice99 replied to Paragrin's topic in General Brandon Discussion
office golf insufferable genius harry potter arc number Brandon Sanderson while trying this again i went to convenient weakness placement and was sad to see that TLR wasn't there (previously went to unbreakable weapons and didn't see shardblades and was also disappointed) also got this later: Magic Pants Brandon Sanderson How is there no link to Clubs from Old Soldier!?!?!?!?! -
they are in the same category but they are not the same thing. It is criminologists who classify them separately and they are different and you can see the difference here. One of the biggest differences is that psychopathy is genetic whereas sociopathy is the result of how someone is brought up.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
gjustice99 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When, on Evony (the wargame I play) you name yourself Slyphrena and name your city Elantris (though I may change it to Luthadel) -
I have a different theory about this. I feel like Kaladin is going to assert power over Roshone (because he is in Dalinar's guard that probably makes him of higher rank than a low lighteyes like Roshone) and chew him out for forcing his brother into the army, and his ultimate death.
-
Actually, I have a WoB here (#36) that says Kelsier is, indeed, a psychopath (which is the entire reason I posted this thread). I never said he was a sociopath (actually, I said the opposite), I said he was a psychopath.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
gjustice99 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know your a sanderfan when you lie to your friend (who you're making read Mistborn) saying that TLR=Alendi to make the plot twist of TLR=Rashek more intense. By "you" I mean "me" (or "I" depending on context) because I seriously just did this. When you want to try on a ballgown to be like Vin. When you feel a bit exposed when your safehand is uncovered. When everything on your Christmas list is from Brandon's website, or one of his books. When you spend 30 minutes looking for a WoB to prove something. When you see this on your profile: Most Active InMistborn (16 posts ) and think that it is the most amazing thing that will ever happen in your life. -
This is very likely, but he was basically a loaded gun before (it has been shown that psychopathy is genetic), and the Pits just pulled the metaphorical trigger.

Favourite character of Elantris
gjustice99 replied to missionaryofgod's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I like Galladon because I love how his perpetual pessimism works to tear down Raoden's perfect optimism. I also thought Hrathen was an extremely well written character in the sense that he has actual, logical reasons for believing in his religion rather than simply the fact that he was raised believing it and nothing else. -
I completely realize that the theory I proposed goes against a WoB, but on the other hand, I can see no other real reason for color to be drained from objects during the awakening process.
-
Kelsier's feelings toward Mare (from what we know) don't fit the psychopath norm either.
-
I had no idea most of this was proven, I had speculated this since I read WoR (which was much earlier in the year since I joined this site) and I decided to share my theory (which isn't much of a theory anymore... ).

Awhile ago I was reading a Q&A on theoryland and someone had asked Mr. Sanderson what his least favorite protagonist and favorite antagonist was and he mentioned that of all of his protagonists, Kelsier would scare him the most because he is, in the definition of the term, a psychopath. I recently watched a documentary that touched on the subject of psychopathy and I wanted to find out more. So I looked up some determining factors about psychopathy: they show no guilt they are very manipulative (with other people's emotions) they tend to be very controlled (in personality) they tend to plan out crimes before they commit them they have no empathy for other humans fearlessness So, a lot of these characteristics match up with Kelsier's personality perfectly, but I have found a discrepancy. That would be when Kelsier took Vin to Kredik Shaw and she got badly injured, he seemed to blame himself and feel extremely guilty for nearly causing her death. Now, that wouldn't make any sense if Kelsier was a psychopath, because they feel no remorse for their actions and have no empathy, but Kelsier seems to have this trait, in certain situations. In other situations he kills nobles without feeling, and that fits the mold of a psychopath, but when he was guilty for being responsible for Vin getting injured doesn't fit. Now, there is something very similar to psychopathy called sociopathy, so I decided to look into that more to see if he fit the mold of a sociopath better than that of a psychopath. I found that he fit next to no traits of being a sociopath (the one he did fit was the ability to empathize with, and feel guilty for, the people who had close relationships with them). Sociopaths are erratic, and lack the methodology of psychopaths. I feel like Kelsier being an exception to that rule is the most likely possibility for this. I just wanted to bring this to light and share it with the rest of you.

I believe that what happens to fuel awakening seems to be the spiritual connection of the color that is "drained" in the creation of an awakened object. It sort of connects with wounds from shardblades. Stormlight Archive Spoiler Something very similar seems to happen when someone awakens an object, which may be the fuel for awakening. I believe that the connections of the object that is drained of color has been severed in its connection to the spiritual realm. So, that color's spiritual connection may be the fuel for BioChroma rather than breaths. I think the purpose of breaths in awakening is simply to give life to the object, not actually to fuel the awakening itself.

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
gjustice99 replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
She could just be acting the part to get information from the Ghostbloods. -
I vote using BS (Before Sazed) as the Before Harmony mark just because it can be misinterpreted to be something different which I find slightly amusing.

I took this from a different thread (Analyzing Death Rattles or something similar) and while reading it, came across this and I think this is great evidence in supporting that Shalash is Baxil's mistress.

In WoR, when Dalinar touches a shardblade, it screams (I think something similar happened to Renarin as well as Kaladin). And that got me thinking that maybe shardblades are the "dead" spren that were bonded to the original Knights Radiant. It is shown in WoR that a spren that shares a nahel bond with a person can take the form of a shardblade. And something else that makes this interesting is that Kaladin, Renarin, and Dalinar (who have heard shardblades "scream") all share a nahel bond with a spren (Sly, Glys, and the Stormfather, respectively). So maybe they "scream" at a person because that person already shares a nahel bond with a spren, or because they are possibly warning the spren of the possible betrayal of the new Radiants (as they were abandoned by the original Knights Radiants after the Oathpact was broken).

Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
gjustice99 replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So, the kandra being female gives even more support for Iyatil being the kandra. Also in support of Iaytil (assuming that it is MeLaan that is the kandra) MeLaan and TenSoon are really close and TenSoon kinda worships Vin, and earlier on here we have pointed out that Iyatil seems to copy Vin's mannerisms... -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
gjustice99 replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
As much as I want Vin to win this fight, do iron and steel work on shard/honorblades? -
So, I'm rereading TWOK and I read this: "'They watch me. Always. I see their faces in mirrors. Symbols, twisted, inhuman...'" (The Way of Kings p.1013) This got me thinking. What exactly is Elhokar seeing? Is he seeing into Shadesmar? The creatures description sounds kind of like how Shallan's symbolheads are described. Is there any WoB of what exactly those things are? Though any question on the subject was likely RAFOed.

That depends on whether you want to judge based on chronology (based on date of birth) or biology(your body's age). Based on chronology, your friend is still older than you, however, based on biology you are older. So, depending on how you look at it, Hoid could be Cultivation's age, or he could be younger. I tend to judge based on the situation. In this case, I would go with chronology because they are both so old that it probably won't matter that Hoid has skipped some time.

I don't think that Rosharians have studied the greatshells enough to know much about their anatomy, but I do think that there is evidence that gemhearts grow. I'm pretty sure somewhere in Stormlight Archive it is mentioned that larger greatshells have larger gemhearts.

Granted, but you cannot remember anything for more than a day. (So you forget meeting Vin.) I wish for the cure to cancer. -
Where's WalDo: The Kandra Worldhopper
gjustice99 replied to Kobold King's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Um, this one may be really out there but after i read this Q&A that maybe Taln is the Kandra worldhopper. Brandon says here that Taln might not be who he says he is, and that got me thinking that maybe a Kandra is impersonating him. I know this is extremely unlikely, but I still thought I would bring it up as possibility. -
I think it would be funny if Marsh killed someone just to prove that that list is false. (he probably wouldn't though).
