I get a feeling that the "getting worse" line that's pulled out in the prologue of WoR is hinting at something going wrong with the mentality with the Heralds, and them (minus Taln) becoming the Big Bad of the first half of this series, with Odium showing up (on world, in an epilogue) at the very end of the 5-5 split to take his place as the "ohf*ckohf*ckthisisn'tgood" Super Big Bad Guy of the Stormlight Archive.

WoK is also speculated to have a few more Heralds hidden in the scene as well. During Lifts scene Darkness makes a reference to Jezrien drooling all over himself. This could easily lead to him being the drunkard that Szeth runs into during the prologue.
I can't recall any others off the top of my head at the moment, but i'm willing to bet that throughout the first 5 book prologues we'll get glimpses of the 9 Heralds still around.

Awesome! I was actually going to go and meet Brian McClellan when he's in Mentor, OH a few days after this Google Hangout, so that will be cool to get any follow-up questions to him.
(I know this is a Sanderson site, and so I haven't really seen or heard any Powder Mage theories on here, but if anybody wants me to ask Brian McClellan any questions just let me know and I'll get to them when I get to meet him)
I live right south of there and will probably be at that signing as well!

Gah, thats unfair. I've emailed him twice about it over the past year and a half and never heard back...

That image of a fractal is making my eyes freak out, I love it.
Fractals are math based, but nothing on the map of Roshar looks like it would continue inward in the ways that fractals do. HOwever, a part of me feels like it has to do with the spiral pattern that Roshar has going on. The Purelake is almost like the eye of a hurricane.

I don't have the book in front of me, but I'm nearly positive he says it after. They're looking at the painting which depicts a sideways view of someone falling into the pool, and right before they continue on towards the pool Galladon makes the comment.

From Elantris:
> "Over there," Karata said, pointing at the far end of the rectangular room, where the wall held only a single mural. It depicted a large mirrorlike blue oval. An Elantrian stood facing the oval, his arms outstretched and his eyes closed. He appeared to be flying toward the blue disk. The rest of the wall was black, though there was a large white sphere on the other side of the oval.
This would be the hint. The white sphere probably represents another world, or some sort of nexus, or whatever.
You should've also included the portion right after this where Galladon says it looks like a gate of some kind.
Also later on, as Raoden is getting out of the pool he says that whatever blue liquid is inside of it is thicker and not quite water. So, what sort of liquid is in the pool then?

I've read Elantris twice, however it was a llloooonnngg time ago, so I don't recall what Brandon would have been referencing here. Do any of you know? Another book I'll have to re-read after I finish the second go 'round of WoR.

I re-went through Elantris, and the first time they're about to go to the (shard)pool Galladon says that the painting looks like a person going through a gate.
I'm going to go ahead and assume that this is his HIIIIINT! (unless theres more I missed!) and it confirms that yes, the shardpools can be used as gates (into Shadesmar?).
Also, at the same time, when Raoden goes into the pool later in the story, he says that it doesnt feel like water, and the blue liquid is something different which could be a totally separate hint that the pools are filled with something entirely different.

oooh he mentions the big hint in elantris for eviddence of worldhopping. my theory that worldhopping via shadesmar caused the reod is now completely valid in my mind.
I think the hint in Elantris may actually refer to the first time they're going to the pool, and Galladon looks at a painting of someone falling into the pool and specifically says that it looks like someone going through a gate.
Now that its looking like the shardpools CAN be used as gates (into Shadesmar?) I'm willing to bet this was the big hint he was talking about.

Emperors Soul Movie
in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Posted · Edited by cosmosofclay
I haven't seen this anywhere else, but last weekend at Brandons appearance at the book convention in Taiwan, he mentioned that the rights to Emperors Soul have been sold. The movie will be quite different, taking place in a lot of different locations and not just the jail cell that is in the book.
And then bigger news hit. One of the producers (maybe the executive producer?) found out about the Cosmere and proceeded to read all of the books. All of them. Now there is interest in putting into film form, think the Marvel universe in film. This is partly possible because the studio that the rights have been sold to worked on the Iron Man movies.
Yet again, I don't know if this was announced for the first time in Taiwan, but I can't seem to find the announcement anywhere else and thought is let you guys know what he said while out here!
