Hi!

When we open the main forum page, the latest thread with activity on it, for each board, has its title displayed next ot the board's link

The Rhythm of War spoiler board is a part of the Stormlight Archive board, and if the latest thread with activity is from that part of the board, its title will be displayed on the main page, next to the Stormlight Archive board link.

I humbly suggest that thread titles from this spoiler board should not be displayed on the main forum page, as they are spoilery. If not possible, maybe advising users to keep spoilery information out of titles, maybe?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, this is not possible to do. We will try to keep big spoilers out of topic titles. This can be difficult, though, as there's a balance in having a topic title say what it means, but not be spoilery. Sometimes it can be hard to do without the topic being incredibly vague.

Please report spoilery topic titles and we will do our best. It is not possible to keep them off the forum home without passwording the forum.

In Invision Power Board 3.x, there was a setting that could do this, but it's gone now...

Thanks! No one is bound to do what is impossible.

Some thoughts on determining which titles are spoilery and which aren't: perhaps it is a function of screen resolution, but only the beginning of titles are visible on the main forum page. So if I open with a spoiler, everyone will see it, but if I start with something innocuous and end with a spoiler, it might be fine.

It appears to be ~26 characters that are presented on the front page

"Spoiler Alert - " takes up 16 characters, so I guess if something is so unavoidable that you can't not write a spoiler, the OP could start with that and attempt to write a spoilerless 10 characters afterwards.

"Spoiler Alert for front page - " Would also completely obscure the title for the front page.

Good idea - that would certainly be the considerate thing to do in the circumstances.

I will try and think of some hackery that would permanently hide it on the forum home. I don't like requiring spoiler tags; that was very annoying to enforce in Oathbringer times.

If you could possibly move that section down to the bottom of the front page, that would help some. Having it right there in the middle means we have to scroll past it to get to the "The Cosmere" and "Community" sections, which I imagine are probably the most trafficced forums.  putting the spoiler boards on the bottom would almost completely eliminate that issue, at least for me.

out of curiosity, can you say why you aren't doing it as a sub-board under the stormlight archive board, like I seem to recall you did or Oathbringer?  that seemed to work pretty well.

For now it may not be most trafficked, but I guarantee you it will be the most trafficked in November. I intentionally put it above Cosmere because it will be the primary area of Cosmere Discussion soon enough.

Community will always be at the bottom, I'm afraid. Book Discussion must come first. If you are new, you probably want to discuss the books first. And with RoW, it's going to be even more chaotic than Oathbringer.

It... Sort of worked. But two groups of people had legitimate complaints. Theorizers said they couldn't find theory topics on lore and magic. People who like character discussion didn't like seeing all the theory posts. Because it was so busy, it was hard for people to find what they wanted. It was basically a giant cluster. It made me realize with the fandom growing, this strategy will not work long term. RoW will be much bigger in terms of activity. We needed a new plan.

By splitting things into multiple boards we can make it easier for people to find what they want. Additionally we do not need to allow RoW into Cosmere Discussion, since we can just sequester it all into this category.

We did for a bit have a RoW board as a subforum. But since we wanted multiple boards, I did not want them as subforums. I generally do not like subforums as it can be a bit tricky to navigate to. A category to make this very obvious seemed better, and in November, there are going to be a lot of posts there.
