Having been re-reading the series I was hoping to get some feedback from the community...

We have Hierocracy doing their best to erase knowledge of the knights radiant, having visions that were not sent by Honour (though I don't think we are told if they were proven 100% fake or just "not visions the almighty would send"), we have the latest "followers" being the sons of honour trying to bring back the voidbringers, and we have Honour admitting to Dalenar at the end of WoK that Odium has figured out a new plan: having people forget.

What else to we know about the Hierocracy? Because it seems an awful lot like they were being manipulated if not by Odium (somehow) but by the unmade?

How do we know they were not sent by honor.  What if someone in the past started showing bondsmith potential and they started seeing the visions that Dalinar saw. Seeing things like the recreance might of destroyed their faith and they went on a rampage to erase the memory of it. Just being the devils advocate.

I've always felt the part about humanity forgetting was more about stoping the desolations for a while. With the creation of parshmen and 9 of the 10 heralds abandoning the oathpact Odium took his chance maybe even set it up this way, he does see the future. The heralds say they won, the enemy is a mindless slave the oathpact is barley intact because of my man Taln.  Not to take away from his sacrifice but what if odium went easy on him so he would last longer. Honor dies and our magical defenses are thrown away. Thousands of years pass with no threats and humanity gets lazy. Voidbringers and desolations are things of legend which most people believe to be just made up stories. Instead of repopulating and preparing for the next desolation we fight each other. Odium goes all doctor strange and checks future possibilities and chooses the right time to break taln to give him his best chance at winning. He was pretty confidant Dalinar would be his champion and he had won.

I think I remember a bit in OB where Stormfather explains that impressed with Honour's mixtape of visions (Was Dalenar not the 1st time he showed them?) . Plus with how he did it with Dalenar, he just picks a person, shows them the mixtape and offers no explanation. I don't see a religious movement start up fro. The way he does it. More likely the ardent would try to quietly murder anyone who mentiones the visions to them.

Dalinar was not the first. Gavilar saw the same visions, and interpreted them very differently.

The visions Dalinar gets in WoK always struck me as odd - you don't just look at the past, you are able to act within this experience. Now we know that Gavilar was also on the way to being a Bondsmith - was he acting in a different way? Were the visions only basically the same but different in the end depending on the personal reactions? Is this something like a test?

Brandon Sanderson

He did see the same visions. They were the same thing. But... I will say that his reaction to them were very different from Dalinar's reactions to them. Anyway it was difficult for the Stormfather without a bond to determine/to tell the difference between very easily. When Spren are bonded, they gain a lot more ability to understand the world around then, so you'll find out soon more stuff about this in the third book.

Considering Gavilar's involvement with Amaram and the Sons of Honor, I think a religious movement is absolutely believable.

Not that I actually think this is what the Hierocracy was. There may have been Unmade involvement there to exacerbate the issue, but for the most part I think it was just people being people, and doing whatever they could to solidify and maintain their power.

I was just coming up with a reason on the spot. It could of been the same thing and they tried to unite them. I'm wondering if ive missed something with the OP stating having visions not sent by honor.
