Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time (I think?) poster!  Was discussing Oathbringer today at lunch with a friend who is reading SA - I didn't spoil Oathbringer for him, I swear! - and I came to a realization. We know that Kaladin's realization which lead him to the Third Ideal was that "The King was Dalinar's Tien"... meaning Elhokar. But I thought of another interpretation for that... and my apologies if someone has already pointed this out...

Tien's death seems to be the point that broke Kaladin enough to start him on the path to Radianthood. I would be willing to argue that Gavilar's death was the same for Dalinar... so while, in the present, Elhokar is Dalinar's Tien, what started Dalinar on the steps to Radianthood was actually Gavilar's death... making BOTH kings Dalinar's Tien. Dalinar was already interacting with a spren in The Way of Kings when he started getting the visions... and Syl commented to Kal in OB that she had vague memories of someone associated with Kal who had to be Tien, meaning she was vaguely aware of Kal before Tien's death... but while Kal was good with a spear before Tien's death, it was only after Tien's death that strange things started happening around him.

I just wanted to get this thought down. I may come back and clean it up, but I would be happy to hear opinions!
