Ok so my thought is in the epilogue of WoR we see Wit awaiting Jasnah and after doing some research I found out about the cosmere. stormlight is actually the second series the I've read written by Sanderson the first being the original mistborn trilogy. Now in the mistborn series we see two Shards, Preservation and Ruin. These two Shards banded together in an attempt to create a second species of humanity. The important thing about this is that in creating this species both Shards had to put part of themselves into humans in order to give them sentience and the ability to destroy or save. It was said that a little bit of Preservation lived in every one of these humans. The reason this is important is because in that epilogue Wit tells Jasnah the truth about the Tanavast but the thing that struck me as odd was that Wit specifically said that he believed the Almighty to live inside the hearts of men. Wit knows that the only actual Godlike being in the cosmere was in fact Andlomanius. My theory is that the reason the Shattering was said to be a final option/ last ditch effort type thing was in fact to spread andlomanius's power amoungst the sentient races at that time. Now I haven't read all of Sandersons books and am new to this whole thing so I'd appreciate it if some of you smarter and more versed lorises were to check this out and give me an opinion on this.

Hi @Shoffart,

Welcome to the Shard! Very nice to have new people and, based on the fact that the very first thing you post is a deep theory attempting to tie in large portions of the Cosmere, I think you will fit right in haha. :)

Now as to:

This is somewhat debatable. As far as I am aware, I do not think we know if Wit believes that Adonalsium actually was a "God" in the Judeo-Christian sense. For all we know, Adonalsium was a fallible and flawed as one of the Shards.

Also, as to this:

Spoiler

We do know that three distinct sapient races lived on Yolen (humans, dragons, and one other) and we also know that the Parshendi from the Stormlight Archive pre-date the arrival of Honor/Cultivation and are therefore, possibly, creations of Adonalsium. What that means is Adonalsium seems to have created quite a number of sapient races so it would be odd for a group to destroy Adonalsium in an attempt to grant sapience when Adonalsium was already doing that.

As a side note, this forum (Introductions) is more to say hello to the community, get some free up-votes, and then be offered spiked cookies in return. There is a forum called "Cosmere Theories" that would be more appropriate for a question like this that spans multiple Cosmere series. Or the Cosmere Q&A is a good forum if you want to ask a single question. Just giving you a heads up as people might risk seeing spoilers here in the Introduction forum; e.g. you wrote about how

Spoiler

Jasnah and Wit meet at the end of "Words of Radiance"

and some people might not have read that far into the series when they stop by here to welcome you.

@Overlord Jebus you seem to be a mod that is online, can you, perhaps, either spoiler tag the OP's post or move this to a more appropriate forum? Not to worry btw Shoffart, you are new here and we certainly won't hold you enthusiasm against you!

That sounds vaguely reminiscent of the Iriali doctrine of The One. Do you tie that anywhere into your theory?

One thing that has always puzzled me about the time before the Shattering of Adonalsium was that there were apparently gods before Adonlasium. Brandon recently released some chapters from his unpublished book Dragonsteel, which was the first part of a series that would tell the story of the Shattering (and has Wit as a character). The chapters that were released were the original draft of the Bridge Four sequence, which Brandon repurposed in Way of Kings... but they mention 'gods' in the Spiritual Realm in there. Some chapters from another unpublished book, The Liar of Partinel (also a part of the Dragonsteel sequence, this one a prequel), has a legend about dead gods.

That all goes to show, there is much we don't know about the histories of Wit and of Adonalsium, so I'm very hesitant to speculate as to motives. We've seen Wit collecting pieces of Investiture (he has Breath, he has Allomancy, he tried to become an Elantrian), so you would need to explain how that fits in with the motivation behind the Shattering. But your idea seems as valid as any others I've seen.

Welcome to the Shard, and by all means, feel free to contribute with more ideas you have!

Noted for future happenings. Thanks for the heads up.

Welcome @Shoffart.

Quite the undertaking for a new theorist, and considering you devised it on your own, the parts that Pagerunner pointed out probably weren't known to you, so this is rather impressive, especially considering the limited number of Cosmere books you've read.

And on that note, be very very careful here. Things are pretty well segregated, but spoilers abound. Especially here in Cosmere Theories.
