DiamondMind he/him Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Pretty sure it is based on the 10 essences. Air being one of them. It's possible that this only matters when soulcasting objects into the Ten Essences, and Shallan and Jasnah do with blood. We don't know if it works the other way around. In fact, playing devil's advocate, here's the argument: the Ten Essences have, for some reason, very strong Cognitive aspects, which is part of the reason that they are so important. (Or perhaps, because they're so important they are Cognitively strong.) Therefore, it would be easier to make something into an Essence as it wants to grow cognitively stronger rather than weaker.

I think it would be tough to make a case that you can Soulcast things into air, but can't Soulcast air into other things. The 10 essences are pretty all encompassing. I'm sure there are several rules that govern it, but I don't think you can only Soulcast wood, crem, and goblets.
DiamondMind he/him Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) I think it would be tough to make a case that you can Soulcast things into air, but can't Soulcast air into other things. The 10 essences are pretty all encompassing. I'm sure there are several rules that govern it, but I don't think you can only Soulcast wood, crem, and goblets. And humans . You misinterpreted what I wrote. I said harder, not impossible. Of course you can Soulcast most objects into other things. I'm saying that it's much easier to Soulcast them into one of the Ten Essences, and it's harder to Soulcast an Essence into anything else. For example, notice how in Shallan's chapter, when she "talks" to the goblet, it's very agreeable to change? I'm positing blood would not like to change into a goblet, though you could force it to. Simply: Object ---> Essence: Easy, like pushing a boulder downhill (it only needs a nudge!) Essence --> Object: Hard, like pushing a boulder uphill Edited February 11, 2014 by DiamondMind
lummi he/him Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Kaladin running at them would be a problem since they can soulcast their blood away or something crazy like that. 1
Yalb Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Ok, now someone needs to make a game of it all. "World of Roshar" with he 10 orders being classes.
Moogle Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Ok, now someone needs to make a game of it all. "World of Roshar" with he 10 orders being classes. But why would you play anything but an Elsecaller? Everything else has been hit by Sanderson's nerfbat. I suppose if Order 8 has a cool Surge then maybe you could play that...
