Hello all, I'm Chrome.

I've read The first Mistborn trilogy and the two Stormlight Archive books and loved them all. I am considering trying the other books, but don't really understand how the whole cosmere thing connects, so looking out for your suggestions too.

Nice to meet ya'll.

I will try my best.

Mistborn is set on a shardworld (planet) called Scadrial, SA is set on another shardworld known as Roshar. The "Cosmere" is the universe in which all these shardworlds and planets are in. Long ago a being called Adonalsium was "shattered" into 16 pieces. A Shardworld is a planet where a Shard has settled upon. On Scadrial, the Shards Ruin and Preservation lie. TLR (The Lord Ruler) is a sliver of preservation, someone who held the power of a Shard but gave it up. Harmony is the host of both of these Shards. On Roshar, the shards Honor and Cultivation lie, with Odium lurking around. Honor was splintered by Odium. The other cosmere books are about other Shardworlds and their Shards such as Autonomy, Dominion etc etc

Then there is the Realmatic Theory. That all things lie within three realms. Cognitive, Spiritual and Physical.

I have come to see that each power has three aspects: a physical one, which can be seen in the creations made by Ruin and Preservation; aspiritual one in the unseen energy that permeates all of the world; and a cognitive one in the minds which controlled that energy.

Sazed's earliest experiences after his ascension.[1]

We don't know much about the Spiritual Realm.

We don't know much about the cognitive either, in SA it's called Shadesmar

Physical speaks for itself

There are these people known as worldhoppers, who traverse the cosmere using various magics. Once you become more cosmere-aware, you will find these worldhoppers throughout Brandon's books. One of them is known as Hoid, who you might have noticed in Mistborn, and goes around as Wit in SA, You will hear alot about him during your stay here and will learn alot too (hopefully). There are also the 17th Shard, a group who search for Hoid, thinking that his meddling will bring the fall of the cosmere. The Ars Arcanums are written by Khriss, a member and they a mentioned a few times in SA

It's just one big universe, each book taking place on a small corner of that universe.

Hope that helped

Hey man, first of all thanks for taking the time to write this out. Much appreciated.

So a few questions,

Spoiler

Did sazed end up becoming this "harmony"?

And If I remember correctly 'Hoid' was an informant in Fadrex city that vin ended up avoiding, where do we see an explanation for that? If I read correctly the mistborn era 2 is held some 300 years after the first era.

Also, can you point me to any order of the books I should read in to get a hold of Cosmere? This is really interesting and I want to learn more about it. (Download links would be appreciated too.)

Cheers.

Sazed is indeed Harmony.

Hoid was indeed that informant, Hoid has access to many magic systems, and through them he has been able to extend his age similar to TLR

As for the order of the books, you can read them in any order.

EDIT- Here's the chronology

Year Book Notes
? Elantris & The Hope of Elantris Far earlier than Hero of Ages but not thousands of years[2]

-1-(-2) The Well of Ascension

? Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell Comes in the latter half of the chronology, but before the Stormlight Archive[6]
? The Stormlight Archive After The Hero of Ages and near the time of Alloy of Law. The first 5 books of The Stormlight Archive take place slightly before The Alloy of Law, and specific timing of the later books will depend on how long the gap between book 5 and 6 is[7][8]
341 The Alloy of Law Takes place after the 5th Stormlight Archive book[7] [8]
342 Shadows of Self Takes place 342 years after the Final Ascension (a year after the Alloy of Law.)

Nice list. I'll start off with Elantris since a few friends recommended it before.

Thanks for help!
