Shadowspren he/him Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Hey wouldn't go back to Hearthstone and wreck havoc just for the sake of revenge, that would not doubt be a step back in character andin plot... which Brandon wouldn't do. Plus he just had a whole book about him overcoming his lust for vengeance, he won't abandon that so quickly... If his parents are in Hearthstone, they will be in some sort of bad state. Could they have been stripped of their status? If so he could have made Kal's parents his servants of sorts which would allow him to fulfil his lust for revenge. Losing their children would have broken them, and he would draw that out as long as possible... Kal will 'drop in' literally, go to his old house and find that his parents aren't there, he might go down into the old surgery room, which would bring back all the memories... and once he finds his parents gone he'll go and confront Roshone. If they aren't in Hearthstone, he's going to go to Roshone anyway to find out what happened. Likely the whole town is looking torn up because of Roshone so he will 'liberate' the people before moving on to find his parents... maybe not kill Roshone, but something cool... 1

Likely the whole town is looking torn up because of Roshone so he will 'liberate' the people before moving on to find his parents... maybe not kill Roshone, but something cool... Thinking a bit more about this, I'm starting to believe that there won't be a "liberate Hearthstone from the clutches of Roshone" that so many people are expecting. Why? Because it's what people expect... ...and you can do such interesting things with Kaladin that way. For all we know, Laral helped Roshone have a stroke, so he's now mostly bed-ridden, and she rules things in a relatively amicable way. Or perhaps Roshone actually changes of his own volition (incredibly doubtful, but if Kaladin arrives post-Everstorm hitting he could see an entirely different Roshone in charge.) I still think it's unlikely for Kaladin to find his parents alive and happy in Hearthstone with Roshone present, but I also find it equally unlikely for them to be there at all. And in my opinion the far more interesting story for Kaladin's development would be for Kaladin to show up to save the day, only to find that he's not needed, and the people he was there to save already left. 2
Sculpur Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 This - I want Roshone to get his comeuppance but I don't want it to be Kaladin who brings it. .............. Don't worry, I am sure Adolin has a spare dagger somewhere in there, he'll handle it. 4

I do not want to read about Kaladin's parents being overly broken and stripped of their status. The life of everyone in Kaladin's vicinity does not have to go from bad to worst to unbearable. I would prefer if they have find the strength to move past the hardships of losing both their sons. We are putting way too much emphasis on this "broken" thing... I'd like to read about characters which had trouble, but still managed to pull through. It is hard enough to explain how the various Radiant were supposedly broken as half of them do not seem that have cause enough to justify it. I'd wager the cracks required for the Nahel bond are not as big as we think... Oh I love this. It would be a nice arc to have Kaladin rush forward, trying to make the last minute safe, only to arrive a few days too late and realize... He was not needed after all. They've got everything under control. Love this. Don't worry, I am sure Adolin has a spare dagger somewhere in there, he'll handle it. Don't worry, I am sure Adolin has a spare dagger somewhere in there, he'll handle it. Ah, no, no, NO. Adolin is no killer.

Now that you mention it, that wouldn't be too bad... He goes back expecting to exact justice and revenge and finds it already done... If indeed Larai is ruling, maybe she helped his parents by helping them move to a place where his skills will be appreciated and/or to get them away from Roshone. On the other hand, if it is like kaellok said and he gets back post Everstorm, maybe he'll get back and be able to help everyone recover... and therefore earning the respect of Roshone... or whoever is in charge 1

FrogKnight Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) from what i got out of it, everyone in hearthstone should still be alive. most likely, no one will recognise Kaladin, and he will probably not give out his name right away. and regarding peoples claims about every single character plausibly becoming a knight radiant, I dont think brandon intends to make any new radiant from the pool of people we already know. If there are additional radiants, they will be people we have yet to meet. (with the exception of Adolin, cant be sure about that guy) Edited June 10, 2015 by FrogKnight

Guest Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Sorry dude, this is an old one.. There is thread somewhere where it is discussed.
The Honor Spren she/her Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 To be honest, I don't really care! I'm just over here fangirling all over the place 1
Walker Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Regardless of the state of his parents, I am 100% convinced that Kaladin's story in the next book is him leading a wagon train of refugees (from Hearthstone and numerous towns on the way) to Kohlinar. When he gets there, his challenge will be to open the portal. This is the only meaningful way he can protect all these people. Furthermore, we are pretty sure his last two oaths are leadership related. He has both the leadership challenges of organizing all thos people AND stopping the riots against the Empress. 3
