Dolphinius he/him Posted Friday at 09:21 PM Posted Friday at 09:21 PM Hello, everyone! Lifelong Alaskan here. I discovered Brandon Sanderson in 2019, when a rando on Reddit mentioned The Way of Kings in a popular thread. Since then, I've read many of his books. I still have the Cytoverse series, the Reckoners series, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, White Sand, The Sunlit Man, and the second half of the Alcatraz series ahead of me. I'm introducing my 10-year-old to Sanderson. Currently, we're about 15% through TWoK and nearly halfway through the Alcatraz series. (It's amazing how many more connections one makes on a second pass through epic novels like TWoK. I'm sure I'll eventually re-read it all a third time as well.) Someday, I hope to get my wife on board. HOBBIES I enjoy running, lifting, reading (especially biographies, fantasy, and sci-fi), listening to podcasts, listening to National Public Radio (NPR), playing video games with my wife and kids, and going on long walks. I'm also a longtime Colorado Avalanche and Denver Broncos fan. BACKGROUND I'm retired now. Over the years I've served as an active duty Army infantryman and Army Reserve engineer, worked as a legal aide during college, spent several years as a police officer, and later became a state investigator handling licensing investigations involving healthcare professionals. FAVORITE CHARACTER My favorite character is Hoid, followed by Kaladin. 3
Mystic He/Him Posted Friday at 09:31 PM Posted Friday at 09:31 PM *gasp* fellow Alaskan????? Anyways, welcome, if you could invite any 5 characters to dinner who would they be? Also, favorite use of investiture? 1
-ACE- he/him Posted Saturday at 03:22 PM Posted Saturday at 03:22 PM (edited) Welcome to the 17th shard! I'm -ACE- And, like you, I have yet to read white sand. If you could have any single ability from all of the cosmere (ex: a single surge, be a misting, or anything else) what would it be? Do you plan on just talking about cosmere stuffs, or would you like to join the entertainment discussions? Edited Saturday at 03:26 PM by -ACE- 1

Are there other Alaskans active in the forums? I'm in Anchorage. My grandfather moved up here in the 1960s on army orders and decided to stay. I left the state for my own tour of duty in the army but I got homesick and returned as soon as my contract was up. My five: Kaladin, Hoid, Wayne, Rock, and Shallan. Favorite use of investiture: Spoiler Feruchemy. So damn handy for longevity, memories, feats of strength, etc. On 7/11/2026 at 7:22 AM, -ACE- said: Welcome to the 17th shard! If I could have any single ability from the cosmere: Spoiler I'd be a ferring, with the health storing ability so I can heal as needed and enjoy a good, long life. I will likely join entertainment discussions as well. Edited 7 hours ago by Dolphinius 2

I haven’t seen any other Alaskans in here. Most of my friends do read the books, but they’re not on here. And that’s a nice list. Wayne and Hoid is always interesting. And I’m also in anchorage, moved here in 2011 1
