A cult has been gaining traction in the Rivens of the City. They call themselves The Valorous. The gods have tasked their emissaries with ending this abomination before it becomes a threat. They don’t say it, but the senior Blessed know the gods are afraid. This is not natural.

Hellooooooo

I have done a pretty solid reworking of my blessed magic system, and in the process, have created a genuinely interesting plot! :D

anyways, here’s the magic system:

Spoiler

Crimsion:

God: Torvath, lord of pain

material: thick, red liquid that pools in the forgotten places. (Looks almost like blood, but twisted.)

effect: burns flesh. (many other, more hidden uses/effects)

Blessed: The Tormented

Power: can weaponize crimsion around them, turning it into crystals that can grow instantaneously.

Ebony

God: Avaran, the lord of the revered.
Material: Black liquid crowned by black fire tinged with gold.
Effect: Explodes into flames when agitated.

Blessed: Haunts

Power: Manifest black flames that consume light. They can move between the flames.

Quicksilver

God: Sykos, The Lord of strength
Form: Reflective silver fluid found near corpses. (Or in the canyons, but that won’t be relevant to us)

Effect: Heightens reflexes and strength

Blessed: Slivers

Gift: Enhanced speed and strength.

Flick

God: Nym, The Lord of the forgotten

Material: Gas that vanishes upon air contact.

Effect: Erases recent memory; causes disorientation. Creates a haze.

Blessed: Flicks

Power: Invisibility and memory manipulation. *they become invisible to normal people, Forgotten, Ghosts.

These last two are a little odd, as they don’t have an explicit ‘thing’ of their own.

Spoiler

Phagora, Lord of the corrupted

Material: crystals

What it does: imitates other powers in a slightly twisted way

Blessed: can use corrupted versions of other materials. It takes a lot of strength to corrupt on their own

Irrisian, Lord of chaos:

Form: a strange light that holds shattered objects together.

effect: teleports forward in short bursts if touched.

Blessed: unstable in every way possible. They are affected by their own power. This is their power. I dont really have a better way of explaining this…

Character sheet:

Spoiler

Name:

gender:

reason for coming to the great city:

have they been blessed yet? (Do they have their powers yet)

blessing/ what god:

stuff they have: (if you want something special, just ask :))

Welp that’s all

if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I went way in depth on a google doc, it’s just not all necessary or supposed to be here.

Greetings and salutations! I usually refrain from posting on topics without prior involvement, but there be questions to ask.

First, about the nature of the setting. What is ‘the City’? Why is it great? What is the Rivens, a district? Do there be other districts? What are gods? Human-like? More eldritch in nature? Whatever is common knowledge and such.

Second, about the nature of the RP. Me needs a bit more elevator-pitching. What type of characters are we to be making? Are we to be emissaries, if we have a god’s blessing? True relationless wanderers? Members of the Valorous, maybe? What will be the general direction of the plot? Back-of-book blurbs.

Third, terms! We needs ‘em defined all clear-like. Some are inconsistent or have some potential overlap, like swapping between ‘god’ and ‘deity’, or ‘effect’, ‘power’, and ‘gift’. ‘Materials’, I take it, are descriptions of words like ‘crimsion’, ‘ebony’, and such. Needs standardization!

Alrighty, so (I didn’t want to go into detail until people were interested)

imma just copy-paste the notes I have that are relevant (and answer whatever doesn’t get answered)

Spoiler

Many of the people lower in the rivens can hardly imagine what the gardens, or even the Upper Rivens are like.

Oil lanterns light most of the city, with more… archaic sources lighting the poorer sections of the city.

The gardens are on a raised terrace, with a market lined up against the 20 foot wall. Low Nobles guard the walls, with long spears to hit anyone who tries to get up. There may be secret ways up and down, but only a select few know them.

People who ‘act out’ simply disappear. someone gets in a fight in the street? Gone. Empty bed, no trace. A gang gets some power? Their headless corpses are found, piled up neatly, burned. Nobody really finds it strange, it’s simply just a part of life. The Haunt manages the order in the Rivens, and the Nobles are simply above that.

The nobles do govern- they arent simply just… there. They have cryers (or however you spell it) who tell the people news and changes in laws. All information is filtered by the nobility. There is something in charge of the nobles, but they are quiet about it, and other information is either rumors or killed before it reaches the public.

There is one cult; They worship pain. They avoid the middle and upper Rivens, controlling most of the lower.

Blessed are chosen directly by the lords. They usually use an ambassador to communicate to the Chosen.

The lords influence is everywhere, and they are worshipped, if not the powers.

The eternal night has lasted longer than anyone knows.

that’s the city somewhat explained

and I was planning on at least most people being Blessed. Most will be emissaries. Some may be other things, depending on where everyone takes the story. They will (hopefully) take out this cult.

I should hope no members of the valorous end up here…

and the characters are entirely up to you. If something feels like it might be too much, it’ll probably be fine.

the info on “The Haunt” is deliberately vague (let’s just say they’ll be important)

Oh and the city is ‘great’ because it’s all they know.

The inconsistency is because of me editing my system over and over

power and effect are two distinctly different things. The blessed have powers and the materials (I initially called them substances, but that sounded like drugs and that was not the intent)

You fool, to leave a hook without bait! Thems what chums the waters.

Those Blessed of Avaran? The fools.

If this one were to make a character… hmm… to form an apostatic union…

Wait what can our backstories be? How loyal do we have to be to the nobility? And do we get messages directly from our deity?

So your diety will like show up or just talk in your head.

your backstory can be pretty much anything. (Within reason)

and you don’t answer to them. You don’t have to be loyal at all.

No one really knows yet, but let’s just say it’s related to crimsion. The Valourous are the people involved with Valor.

So basically they’re kind of volatile, they can teleport short distances (sometimes through walls) and they can like have arrows go through them.

I think ‘Chosen’ is another continuity error on my part. Lemme reread where I said that it should just mean blessed..?

mmmm see heres the thing

i love chaos and forgotten, forgotten is like one of my favorite things ever, but I am a SUCKER for mentally unstable characters

I do them way way to often

But I don't always do them well, so I prob wont do the DID thing cause it would be to hard for widdle ol me

I think i'll go chaos, here:

Spoiler

Name: Quas

gender: Male

reason for coming to the great city: Irrisian sent him along, hoping for him to find purpose in the city.

blessing: Blessed by Irrisian

stuff they have: 2 Bracelets, one on each hand, that somewhat dull his mental fracturing when attatched. Without them, his mental state can seep into his powers and... infect others... His curse yearns to spread, and yet he is the only one who can survive it. The curse breaks the mind, and in doing so, gives the cursed an uncontrollable version of Irrisian's power that can only be tempered by seeking Irrisian's help. (Pending on approval)

What would be the limits of something like this? We got magic-mind-health-bracelets, what other kind of things can exist?

Crimsion? That which originates from Torvath? Whyever would someone even tolerate the existence of such filth, let alone use it?

Coooool

Name: Sel’th Kar (Kar being the first name)

gender: Male

reason for coming to the great city: Avaran told him to do so, and he had nothing better to do.

have they been blessed yet? Yes. Kar has a strange relationship with Avaran; he doesn’t consider Avaran his better, rather as a colleague. He does what Avaran wants when he feels like it, and in return keeps his power a secret, to give Avaran an insider.

blessing/ what god: Avaran

stuff they have: Gold! (I dunno. He’s a merchant, if you allow it.)

Hmm… I am conflicted upon this. Is it just to use the fruits of the Enemy’s existence to depose that Enemy?

What is the range of ability of crimsion-infused items? The level of power? i gots the urge to Sommerswerd

As warning, much is uncertain. After all, to live is to exist in a state of uncertainty. Especially names. What even are those?

Spoiler

Name: Glasmirrah, Aloe, Vera, the Foe, the Apostate…

Gender: Yes. One or another, I’m sure.

Reason for coming to the Great City: Born and raised.

Have they been blessed yet?: No. Never.

Blessing: None. Never.

Stuff they have: A boundless will to see the order of all that is upended, to cast down and destroy those gods who allow and perpetuate its existence. And—a sword to bring about a promised summer. A weapon that shines with a fury of such righteousness to blind and burn even gods.

One amongst the Valorous.

Iunno if such an item is suitable, but that’s what you’re for!

Chyra Lazlos

Looking for her dad (who is dead)

nope

an amulet that allegedly protects her from the abilities of people with blessings that might hurt her. No idea if it works or to what degree.
