Terrisman Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 Why did Kaladin manifest a honorspear and not a blade? When syl first manifested as a Shardblade, it was as a blade not a spear. The default position is sword.
MrHobbes343 Posted April 24, 2025 Posted April 24, 2025 His Intent at the moment he was given a piece of Honors power was to form it into a spear. Kal's a spear-man and he wanted his preferred weapon rather then a nobles sword. 3
Terrisman Posted April 25, 2025 Author Posted April 25, 2025 And all the heralds were sword people? Doesn’t seem like taln’s type

Kal’s been training and wielding a spear since he first became a soldier so it’s the weapon he’s the most comfortable with which is why his Intent shaped it into a Honorspear. 12 hours ago, Terrisman said: And all the heralds were sword people? Doesn’t seem like taln’s type Kaladin’s manifesting as a spear while the Heralds didn't might have something to do with the fact Kaladin and Syl manifested his Honorspear together while bonded whereas the Heralds received their blades directly from Honor alone. Feistford Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 I've been thinking about this while trying to find canon art of the honourspear; iirc, when the blades were first made, Honour reached into themselves and pulled out a splinter of light that shaped into the blades - Honour made them as swords. I may be wrong on that but thats how I remembere it. Kals blade manifested directly into his and Syls hands instead. I'm guessing since they were reforging the oathpact, they were able to leverage it to splinter the chunk off Honour themselves instead of Honour handing it out, and therefore they were the ones with the Intent that shaped it, and (especially after the dance scene), those two are perfectly in tune with wielding a spear, it is THEIR weapon, its likely associated with their identity to some degree. 1
