"So why didn't you get a job before that?"

"Because I was around 8 at the time, and Terjin is lawful enough to have child labor restrictions," Jerehlu continued. "But that's a story for another time."

Eublech sighs. Nera, you'd better be somewhere. We need the help.

Two bandits exit the forest holding Nera, she'd been caught too.

"Why couldn't you ask your parents for money? Your your grandparents? Or the rich uncle that you only see at the annual family reunion that seems to be a secret billionaire for some reason?"

"Didn't have any of those, sweetie."

"Ah. Orphanage? Streets?"

"Yes, it's very tragic and poetic and such. I'm doing fine now though, and I'll be even better off with you're money--no need to worry!" Jerehlu insisted with a chuckle.

"It's not my money. There's still other options though. What did you want the money for to begin with? Just to have it?"

"Yeah, who doesn't want more money?"

"You couldn't wait, I guess. Did you have any skills? Drawing fast? Music? Close-up magic?"

"I am fantastic at stealing other peoples money," He replied, knowing that's not what she had meant.

"Other than that?"

"Perhaps, but this discussion has derailed and I have no reason to share it with you," Jerehlu said waving absently.

"What we really need to discuss are terms of surrender; you and you're fellow job-seekers have been captured, yes? But I am a very good man and so I would rather not leave you penny-less on the side of the round."

She thought for a moment. "I'd need to take it up with our potential employer."

"And who is that?" He glanced at the tents and wagons. "Are they still asleep? That'd be a surprise considering all the racket we've made."

"I'd still need to talk to them about it."

Jerehlu shrugged. "Fine by me."

She navigated through the branches and over the group to the wagons.

“Hey!” she stage-whispered to her group’s leader.

There was only silence from inside.

"Hey!"

More silence. The wagon hadn't been touched since earlier that evening, the bandits hadn't even started to unload the treasure yet.

Deciding this would be an okay time to invade privacy and break protocol, she went into the wagon.

The goods inside were untouched, but other then that, it was empty. Master Igenes was gone.
