Dint jumped down from the wagon. He proffers his crossbow, a slightly dirty contraption. He had learned to take it apart and reassemble it, and had even begun to assemble his own, but other mechanics eluded him.

”Hello.” He said awkwardly. He had wished to talk to them simply for the fact that use of the crossbow had exiled him - he had never really been part of something for using it.

He looks at Alvar, and tells him quietly. “Your form is good. Better than mine, when I learned. I do not really have any tips… everything I learned was on my own. I have never put it into words.”

He shrugged and pointed to a felled tree a ways off in the woods. “That would make a good target. If you miss, you’d be aiming to the ground anyways. It would be easier to retrieve the bolts. And there are no dryads to anger.”

“They’re everywhere where there’s trees.”

“You… know them?”

Dint’s a wood elf.

An exile, so his opinion on what they “mind” is a bit different than most elves.

“Yes. I always found them a tad bit frivolous. I don’t know these specific ones, but I’ve known my fair share.”

“‘Frivolous’, you say.”

Dint looked straight at her. He noticed her heritage, but really didn’t care. “Yes. Frivolous.”

He launches a bolt at the fallen trunk with barely a glance, embedding it into the wood.

Her eyes narrowed. No respect for the dead, either…

Thorny vines sprouted from the ground and pulled him down to the earth, where they held him tightly but not painfully.

Dint sighed. Of course. He cut himself out with his dagger.

”Please. We have to practice somehow. Do not impede it.”

“Make a mound of dirt. Pluck an apple from a tree. Most actually like having their fruit picked.”

Dint stared at her. He sighed. “Do you know what the dirt would do to our bolts? And an apple seems like it would be a bit too much for someone just now learning the crossbow.”

He’s kinda psycho with the preservation of his bolts, cuz he only had like one or two that he had stolen/gotten in some way I never really mentioned (along with his crossbow), and couldn’t get more, so if he lost or broke one he couldn’t replace it.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, but she said nothing for a time.

“There should be some of the bandits’ bodies over that way. Use those.”

Dint narrowed his eyes, in complement to the numerous times she had. “Okay.”

He went and moved the bodies farther, then returned, looking to Alvar. “You still wish to shoot, yes?”

She returned to her arrow, sharpening it with a rock. She hoped they wouldn’t have to work together much longer, but if they both made the cut, she wouldn’t argue with her superiors.

Dint shrugged, and passed her a sharpening stone. “More efficient.”

He turned back to Alvar.

"It also has darker bark, so it's harder to see at night. Speaking of which, we probably shouldn't be shooting trees anyway. We don't need to make enemies with the local tree nymphs."

"I've never known nymphs to be in this area--"

"Hey!" Nera interjected. "That's disrespectful and cruel. How is it better then shooting the log? It's still misusing diseased remains!"

"Look, we can halt for tonight and when we pass another farm tomorrow I'll buy a hay barrel for us to practice with, okay?!"

“Yes, it’s not much better. I know. I apologize. I was angry. I tend to get defensive of my mother’s people.”

"It's fine, I get it. It can be hard to deal with people who disrespect you because of what you are." She patted her own head to emphasize her halfling build.

Lusha smiled, then frowned. “Especially where we don’t know how or why these nymphs died. At least with the bandits, we know it wasn’t anything honorable.”

Nera shrugged. "It could have been honorable to them. Maybe they have families to support or something, I mean our caravan is the Lord Elhu's . . . if there would be anyone to rob and not feel bad about it, it'd be him."

She glanced at the wagons on the edge of the camp where Lady Genuhk was sleeping, and cleared her throat loudly. "Not that I'd support that sort of behavior of course."

“My father is militarily involved, so I have essentially the same sense of honor as him. This doesn’t quite qualify, at least in my view.”

"Similarly because of past experiences I'm inclined to sympathize with those living the on the rougher paths in life, I guess we'll just have to disagree."
