So this just happened: http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/4/16/2952127/pokemon-black-2-and-white-2-has-new-gyms-and-areas-first-trailer

Let's recap. It is a freaking direct sequel to a Pokemon game, where the world has progressed (half of Unova is encased in ice), new gyms, and a really big regional Pokedex compared to Black and White, including Eevee.

I am freaking excited.

Maybe it'll make up for how bad Black and White were.

How do you figure? Black and White got me excited about Pokemon again, and the story was very good. Black and White was exactly what Pokemon needed after, in retrospect, a pretty bad Gen 4 with Diamond and Pearl. Black and White was cohesive and awesome. I would've liked some additional old Pokemon (Eevee, better Psychic types), but Black and White were excellent, and actually had post Elite Four content that wasn't just stupid mini games.

... There are pokemon shaped like ice cream cones. Most of the new ones are direct rip-offs of Gen 1. Not to mention the excessive number of Legendaries (that's a word now). The starters are pathetic. I was forced to go with the grass-type because he was the least stupid. I resisted buying it for months just based on the starters. I finally caved because I want Zorua, and then found out I couldn't get it.

Plus, all the extra content is pretty pointless if your DS doesn't like connecting to the internet. White Forest serves absolutely no purpose for me.

And Bianca and Cheren were annoying.

I liked Black and White. I think they had, by far, the best plot of all the Pokémon Games, finally presenting the ethiocal conflict about whether it's moral or not capturing Pokémon and using them for battles. I wanted to keep playing, to reach the Pokémon League to meet N, and not only because it was supposed to be my in-game objective.

I'm excited about B2W2. A friend of mine has a very complete Pokémon website (in Spanish), and all the information that is leaking seems great.

Oh, and I didn't like Bianca, true, but I did like Cheren.

Well, Gold and Silver had Dunsparce, the absolute stupidest looking pokemon of all creation, but nobody gives Gen II flak about it. Though, I guess Stunfisk might just give him a run for his money. All the gens had some stupid and/or terrible pokemon. But here's the thing: You don't have to catch those ones! Pick some awesome ones and go with them! Also, TEPIG IS GREAT AND A FANTASTIC POKEMON AND I LOVE HIM LIKE I LOVED MY BULBASAUR.

In fact, peple tend to say the first generation was the best (Pokémon-wise) but the truth is, it's based in animals and random thinks, like almost all of them.

Vanilluxe may be an ice cream cone, but magnemite is a magnet with an eye. Muk is a handful of sludge, so is Grimer, and Growlithe is a dog. A very cute dog, but just painting a dog red and white and adding it as a Pokémon is NOT original.

So, I agree with you, each generation has original and non-original Pokémon, cool and absolutely hideous Pokémon.

I convinced my brother to name his Boarbeque.

1. Gen 4 had more legendaries.

2. I agree with the people above; there have always been exceptionally lazily designed Pokemon. Everyone loves bringing up Vanilluxe as the example where Black and White jumped the shark, but Black and White had some awesome Pokemon. Exhibit A: http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/604.shtml (yes, an electric type with Levitate, so it has no weaknesses. Oh, and it freaking learns Crunch). They can't all be winners.

3. I actually wasn't talk about Black City or White Forest. I don't care about those. I was more talking about post-Elite Four trainers that you actually didn't immediately wipe the floor. The level curve in Eastern Unova is so awesome that way, with Pokemon getting much stronger. I really appreciated that.

4. They annoyed me way less Gen 3 and Gen 4's childhood friends because they actually occasionally did something important to the plot.

So honestly, Black and White is exactly like every other Pokemon game. Some great new Pokemon, some less-than-great Pokemon. The difference here is that the plot made me like the games much better, and I feel that this game was the most balanced of all of them. I also never needed to level-grind, which is a strongly appreciated plus. Red and Blue were great, but seriously, you had to fight wild Pokemon endlessly to get ready for the Elite Four (FireRed and LeafGreen mitigated this a lot with the Sevii Islands). From a purely mechanical perspective, Black and White were the easily some of the best games. I thought Gen 3 was a step backwards from how great Gen 2 was, and Gen 4 was not the best. Gen 5 actually wrapped up the incremental improvements of Gen 3 and Gen 4 and made it into a package that was truly awesome.

All I have to say is that this looks awesome. Kind of wondering about whether the ramifications of the catastrophe will be explored, though if so, this will be more awesome then it already looks.
