Helda had long since given up hope of being rescued. She’d once believed that Tayen would come, that he would save her, but he’d left her again. She couldn’t even hate him, couldn’t shed tears, those were long past. She waited, she’d been waiting for a long time, but she’d waited before. This was harder than normal, but it was only a year. Only a year…without him. She was over it. She had to be. She’d find another meaning to her life after she was released.

A guard came to her cell, and unlocked it. "You're being released. Your time is served."

She didn’t respond, she just stood and walked to him.

"Hm. We had a bet on whether or not you'd look happy. Looks like I won." He led her out...

And Tayen was right outside, waiting for her. He looked exactly as he had when she had last seen him, holding her as she grew weak and fell unconscious.

She ignored the man, then looked at Tayen and immediately looked away, walking in the other direction.

"Helda! I'm sorry I didn't come in after you... I was worried that trying would get me detained and we'd be apart for longer."

She ignored him still, tears streaming down her face. She didn’t want his excuses.

"I've been waiting outside for you since I got out. They wouldn't let me go in, but they said it'd only be a few days at the most, so I just stayed. I'm sorry. Helda, please..."

She didn’t look at him. He had left her, she wouldn’t go back and get hurt again, no matter what he claimed.

Tayen slowed down. He looked and sounded exhausted. "Helda, I love you. Please come back."

Tayen collapsed, sobbing himself. He had done something horribly wrong, he must have. Where had he failed? He had tried so hard...

Helda cried for what she had lost. It had been so tempting to go back to him, to pretend he loved her, but he didn’t. He wouldn’t have let her stay there if he loved her.

Yeah.

Helda ran to the one place she knew find shelter. She found it just as she had left it, the door still open, inviting. It felt empty without him there though. She rested, and was about to leave…

Tayen appeared at the door, eyes red, posture weary. "Helda... can we talk, please? I need... need to understand..."

“No. You left me. You said you wouldn’t, but I can’t trust you. So I can’t trust anything you say.”

“A little while? A LITTLE WHILE!” She broke down, sobbing.
