"He is not unsafe."

“Oh? And what do you plan to do with him?”

You know, if he said that Tayen had bargained the truth for his freedom (a lie), it would break her heart…

That contradicts what the interrogator already said, and his intention isn't to hurt her, anyway.

"Due to the limited damage his crime actually caused, he could still be let off given the confession, though such unpunished instances can harshen the punishments for other crimes, and he would be kept on watch."

“Then he is less foolish than I believed. Your time is kinder to criminals than mine was.”

Gotta go, goodnight!

"Well, I will leave you here. You may or may not be moved to a more typical cell before your trial."

“Fine.”

An hour or so later, a man fully covered in thick cloth unbound her and left her with food and water, then turned to leave.

She ate and drank greedily.

No, she won’t, she will wait for them to do something, she’s confident she’ll survive whatever they can put her through.

"Your friend has been released," the man informed her through muffled cloth. Then he left.

“Good.”

What if she got sentenced to a relatively long imprisonment, but unbeknownst to her people in her wing live on contracted time and are released within only a few days relative to the outside?

... That could be fun. And traumatic for her, since she won't see Tayen the whole time.

Eek, that is very cruel... I don't think she'd be charged for arson, but definitely for threatening and a couple instances of assault. Maybe about a year?

Yeah, a year works.

She’s going to hate Tayen after this, because he didn’t come to help her.

Should we just skip to the last day or so to get a general idea of how she is before being released? Or should I still try to do some stuff from the trial?

Okay. Can you start? She's in a brighter, less enclosed cell now, not very comfortable but not horrible, and there are a few other inmates in her general vicinity.

Helda had long since given up hope of being rescued. She’d once believed that Tayen would come, that he would save her, but he’d left her again. She couldn’t even hate him, couldn’t shed tears, those were long past. She waited, she’d been waiting for a long time, but she’d waited before. This was harder than normal, but it was only a year. Only a year…without him. She was over it. She had to be. She’d find another meaning to her life after she was released.
