Inquisitors in the Middle Ages

Hello,

I'm new to this website, so hopefully I put this question in the right place. I was wondering if Sanderson drew inspiration from the Middle Ages for his Inquisitors in the Mistborn Saga? I know that in the 1000-1300 CE time period, there were Inquisitors (part of the Inquisition started by the Pope) who carried out making sure Christians were following protocol (as far as I know), so were the Inquisitors in the books based off of the ones in real life?

The Inquisitors in the Mistborn books are a religious organization tasked with controlling the populace through violence, threats of violence, and subterfuge. So, in that sense, they were similar to the Inquisitors of real life. But, without spoilers, Inquisitors act very differently in Mistborn than the ones in real life did, for good reason.
