the most useless uses for useful powers
Wyndrunner replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Use Adhesion to stick your guitar strings down so you don't need a capo... Also you Invest it so that it has a half-Lashing upwards so you don't need a strap to play it while standing. -
Well different orders have different limits on the number of squires available. I think there's a WoB somewhere that says that Windrunners can get more squires than most of the others. In that case I don't think it would be a bond between knight and squire, especially if you didn't have enough squires and you were running around with half your Shardplate like you just got out of bed or something. I am more of the opinion that Shardplate is either a result of further Oaths or an artificial construct of the Radiants themselves. It could be that with a higher bond to a spren (like an honorspren) then maybe lesser spren (like windspren) would form the Plate. I've also heard a few theories that Plate is formed from a combination of all the Surges manipulating the armor (possibly made from aluminum?).

So a little while ago, someone was saying that the game The Force Unleashed is basically what it would be like to be Szeth. I chuckled maniacally at this and then went on with my day. Then I started thinking...wouldn't it be awesome if someone could actually make a game around the story of the Stormlight Archive? The more I think about it the more it appeals to me. The unique abilities of the Windrunners might be a little difficult to format to a user-friendly game but I think it's definitely doable. I imagine that the game would begin like the Way of Kings with Szeth murdering Gavilar. Szeth's storyline could be interweaved into the rest of the game, offering the player the chance to be fully "leveled up" and it would offer a view of what the "enemy" is doing. They could probably start Kaladin off when he is in the army and the story would follow him with occasional appearances from Dalinar, Adolin (and maybe Shallan?) and it would follow through till the end of Words of Radiance. I don't know about you guys, but I would be interested to see this happen. I was also wondering if anyone else had any ideas for how they might deal with certain problems in story or game design, or how other works by Brandon could be adapted into games or movies or tv shows.

I feel like Squiredom has more to do with cognitive relationship to the KR than geographic distance. It probably also depends on the squire's perception of the KR because we know how important that is in the Cosmere. Perhaps the way that Windrunners have squires has to do with them being perceived as leaders or as heroes. The Bridgerunners definitely have this sort of feeling about Kaladin. I like your idea that they must also vaguely observe the Ideals because it just seems like it would fit. An idea I just had is this: What if the original Surgebinders couldn't (or didn't) have Squires? Does anyone have any information or WoB's on this?

I think I remember by WoB that the Orders get Shardblades at different Progressions so each Oath or Truth or whatever could have different effects based on the KR Order

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you watch Pulp Fiction and Samuel L. Jackson says "I will shepherd the weak through the valley of darkness" and you think that it's odd that he hasn't exploded with light yet. -
I also think I read somewhere that Voidbindings might have control over different Surges so there is literally no telling what might happen when Voidbinders return.

In the end of WoR I think there is some line that mentions a Herdazian saying he needs to be added to the list of the Kings of Alethkar. Could it be that part of Elhokar's secret is that he doesn't want to be king? It depends on the way he was raised but it could be the type of lie where he never told anyone because he really wanted to please his father and his family and so on. Cryptics are also related to Creativity, so perhaps Elhokar has a secret passion for art that he keeps hidden because it would be feminine.

You know you're a Sanderfan when your friend suggests a snowball fight and you say "They lied to us! They told us that the Snowball fights were over. The True Snowstorm comes!" -

Another video game reference. When you're playing Assassin's Creed and you ask yourself why Szeth hasn't Lashed anything yet. -

With all this talk about the Dustbringers I think we might be focusing this too much on combat. Yes, they were probably mostly composed of warriors, but maybe it's not so much about violence as it's about bravery(I know, a little obvious, bear with me) I agree that this is probably one of the goals of the Dustbringers, perhaps one of the later Ideals. But I think the 2nd Ideal would be more like this: I will face my fears. Then there's the stuff about Obedience. I imagine an ideal regarding Obedience to be something like this: I will serve my fellow man, even if it leads me to my death. Of course, this is just my opinion, and for some reason it strikes me as being stereotypical for a bodyguard or something like that. Though it can be argued that kings serve their people so perhaps we will see someone beyond the common servant become a Dustbringer.

I like this idea. It would make sense too because the Knights Radiant is an extension of the Nahel Bond so when a Knights Radiant reaches a certain Ideal, their bond becomes physical. Also, when Dalinar sees the Knights Radiant in Shardplate he describes their armor having glyphs and patterns which are probably there to display their progression in the Ideals, so the Plate would be like a badge of honor to display someone's rank in the Knights Radiant.

Unless the remaining Voidbringers somehow gave up their stormform to protect their species. Maybe they decided to give up their consciousness in place of survival. Of course, this assumes that Listeners in stormform have the ability to give it up. It is also entirely possible that in this form they are unable to think for themselves, or that they are controlled by Odium, much like how Marsh is controlled in HoA. But if they are like Marsh, maybe they can minutely rebel against Odium, after all, Eshonai hears a screaming voice in her head so I wouldn't be surprised if some Listeners were able to break free from stormform. Though it would be very interesting if Surgebinding could free Listeners. Perhaps some sort of connection with Honor or Cultivation would give Listeners freedom, kind of like how Rlain is still a part of Bridge Four. Ideas?

Just an interesting tidbit: In Chapter 19 of WoK, Dalinar is aided in fighting the Midnight Essence by a Windrunner and (I think?) an Edgedancer, two orders that are connected on the Surgebinding table. Although this doesn't directly support your theory, it could mean that certain orders of Radiants work together better than others. Also, each set of armor that the Knights Radiants wear has the emblem of the Knights Radiant etched into it so the Plate could be a manifestation of cooperation amongst the orders.

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE! So I read the end of WoR and I noticed something that blew my mind! I'm assuming that this is Nightblood here, but how in the name of the Almighty did he get to Roshar? I also noticed in another topic that someone theorized that the Heralds may have originated from different Shardworlds. Any thoughts anyone?
