POV's for Introduction in next 3 Books
Terisen replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
I, too, think that having a Herald as a POV for this scene in book 3 is a bit unlikely. Just a gut feeling. I like the thought of having Sadeas as the POV character. He was integral in trying to protect Gavilar (unlike Dalinar, who was wasted). Would like to see how that panned out for him and how he perceived the words that Gavilar left.- 25 replies

So something has been bugging me about the things that the Rosharan people swear by, specifically about the Heralds. They seem oddly specific in wrong ways. We have the following examples: Kelek’s breath Ash’s eyes Ishar’s soul Nalan’s hand There’s a couple others (“Chana knows”, “Chana help”, “Pailiah knew”), but those don’t have the problem below. We see that the curse basically follows the pattern of Herald’s name followed by one of the body foci listed in the Ars Arcanum. The strange thing is, the foci doesn’t line up with the Herald that it is associated with. Kelek’s focus was nails (hand). But here, the hand is associated to Nalan. Same thing for Ash. It should be blood, but instead we get the eyes. Really, what I would expect to see is something like the following: Kelek’s hand Ash’s blood Ishar’s flesh (yeah, that’s a tad strange, I admit) Nalan’s breath I’ve thought about this and couldn’t come up with any discernable pattern for the changes. Tried offsets, rotations of the chart of the Radiant orders, etc. Couldn’t come up with anything. Anybody else have any ideas? I’m fairly certain there’s a reason for this in the history of Roshar and it’s possible we don’t know enough yet. Or that I’m over thinking this.

Little disturbing there, Kobold! Now we have to watch you when you post in those welcome threads.

Wonder if it tastes like chicken.... I mean, EVERYTHING tastes like chicken, right? Or does it taste like Rosharan chicken? Man, this is disturbing to think about. It's the Rosharan version of Soylent Green!

Let's try this again, this time with MSDN Magazine (technically not a book, but the closest thing next to me). "Using IIS to host ASP.NET web applications has been the de facto standard for more than a decade." Oddly enough, this actually might describe me fairly well!

OK, initial reactions (I'll need a reread with my laptop near this time to take notes). - I liked the notion of a setting that is the rain forest on steroids - Definitely a shardpool of some sort. Do we know if shardpools always have a color? - Wonder if the parasites that are in the worms that the Aviars eat could live in a human. Parasites don't always transfer species to species. - I'm of the opinion that the Ones Above are more like an intergalatic organization consisting of many different planets rather than just Scadrians. No real support for this. I just like the idea because Scadrians seem a little too easy of an answer (no easy answers, remember!) - I didn't mind the ending, but I'm definitely going to want to see resolution of some sort to this at some point.

"I am a (chocolate) stick." (I had promised myself I would never make a stick reference, but I couldn't help myself. Sigh)

The Greatest Idea in the History of Ideas!
Terisen replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I wish someone would honestly try this approach to writing textbooks. It's not that they CAN'T be interesting and engaging, but most authors aren't willing to spend that kind of effort. Can you imagine how more successful student would be if they WANTED to read their textbooks? We just need to tell Brandon it's for the good of the children! -
This man speaks much truth. \m/

After reading this, I'm now hoping for this version of the in-world book. Come on, Brandon, make it happen!

You have homework on the holidays? That's just wrong.

Yep. So even though Ender's Game is part of the main Ender storyline, it actually serves as a "nexus" that all the other books hook to and drive off of in their stories, oftentimes very different in tone. Ha, "weird" is one way to phrase it!
-
That's exactly it. The series changes drastically from Ender's Game to Speaker for the Dead. You have to take them at face value.
-
Wow, didn't realize there was that many Ender books. And I've read the vast majority of them. I just couldn't get through Shadow Puppets, so I left behind that branch of the story. The new ones are quite good though. Prequels the way they should be done. Unlike a certain other series *cough*StarWars*cough* EDIT: I'd say the primary Ender books are awesome (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide and Children of the Mind). Ender's Shadow is excellent too, as it focuses on Bean during Battle School.

Dude, this is why I've never understood why people beg for authority on a board. Takes so much time to do it right. Just so you know, all your efforts on this place are greatly appreciated. Nothing much going on right now here. Just reading the new Ender Series book.

Voidbringers? (partial spoiler for Words of Radiance)
Terisen replied to Wyndle's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
It seems unlikely to me. The monks seem to be using a form of the Dor that shapes their skeleton into a shape, similar to the shapes of the Aons. Also, while not truly confirmed (that I know of) the Dakhor is probably through Dominion, whereas the Voidbringers are from Odium. Now, that being said, we know Odium DID go to Sel and maybe there's some common thread there. But I still don't quite see it as being the same. -
I'm wondering if it's possible that the Ryshadium are, for lack of a better term, horse Radiants. That is, have they bonded a spren themselves? We know that it's possible to have a spren bonded and nobody else could see it because that's what Syl does. We've seen two species bond spren in humans and Parshendi. Why not horses?

Wait a minute-(Mistborn spoilers, revival WoR spoilers)
Terisen replied to CrystalShadow's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is actually very interesting to me. Certainly would explain what Nalan meant when he told Szeth that he could be reborn. 2/3rds of him, in fact, had been reborn quite literally. Yep, there it is right there. Spiritual and physical. -
So this would mean that Breath has some of the same underlying principles as Feruchemy then? That's an interesting concept, I would think.

History is written by the victors! He that comes to the winning side is not labeled a traitor, but rather a courageous hero!

I have to admit, I have no idea what the draw of Adventure Time is. It obviously appeals to some people, but I certainly don't get it. I'll leave them to it.

"I must be burning Electrum because I can see you in my future!" And I always thought "My life to yours. My Breath become yours" sounded like a really bad in-world pickup line
