  1. Who else here reads comic books? What are you enjoying now? I'm loving Daredevil, Batman, Nightwing, Justice League, The Flash, Captain Anerica, and Uncanny Avengers. X-Factor was my favourite series, but it finished it's ten year run in August. Both Forever Evil and Infinity are quite good. I'd recommend them both, but Infinity might be easier to jump into as it features Thanos (Seen at the end of Avengers.)
  2. I like the show a lot. I'm a HUGE comic book fan (True story, I have about 15,000 comic books) and I'm excited to see further exploration of Marvel's cinematic universe. I'd like to see more references to established Marvel characters. Daredevil or She-Hulk would be cool as superhero lawyers. Introduce Carol Danvers as a SHIELD pilot. Mockingbird is an easy fit as a highly skilled SHIELD agent. Darkarma, for what's its worth, Gravitonium was actually an element in the Marvel Universe.
  3. Morsk, I was considering the Origin of Storms as a Shattering site as well. It would make some sense and might play well into Hoid's story about the sailor sailing to the Origin. (I'm at work and don't have any of the source material with me, please forgive me for not showing my work.)
  4. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I am operating under the theory that the reason the Shattered Plains existed in Dragonsteel is because Brandon's draft had Adonalsium shattered there initially. However, at some point he decided to have Roshar be the sight of The Shattering.
  5. I an of the belief that Roshar was the site of Adonalsium's Shattering. Perhaps The Shattered Plains were shattered when Adonalsium was (Which might explain their presence in Dragonsteel and Stormlight Archive.)
  6. I'm going to go ahead and call it that Roshar (or The Tranquilene Halls) once had Adonalsium pre-shattering. One of the things I've been wondering recently is what led the original 16 Shards to separate across the cosmere, 1-3 to various planets.
  7. Hmm, this might sound a bit crazy, but his "Mark XVII" comment could imply that there is someone named Mark in the Seventeenth Shard. A robot or golem, perhaps. ... and I just realized the connection between the Lifeless from Warbreaker and The Golem (The Jewish tale). Good Questions and interesting answers.
  8. I love this game. It's one of my favourites. For what it's worth, it was first published in the mid-late nineties as a CCG by Wizards of the Coast. It was cancelled after (I think) two expansions and recently brought back as the new set.
  9. Lord of the Rings is, and likely always will be, my favourite book. I first read it when I was in elementary school and I've read it at least once a year every year since. The themes of perseverance, friendship, and morality are timeless. It's a beautifully written book and certainly deserves it's place in literature history. Fun fact: it's actually the second best selling book of all time, after Dickens' A Tale Of Two Cities and it is the most read book of the twentieth century.
  10. I wonder if there is a correlation between the chasm and the difficulties with accessing Shadesmar from Sel. <b>INTERVIEW: 2013 Twitter 2013 (Non-WoT) (Verbatim) VANESSA (23 JANUARY 2013) Does the chasm on Sel have a counterpart in the cognitive realm? BRANDON SANDERSON (23 JANUARY 2013) Yes, it does. But moving around there is really tough... <b> It could be that he meant it was really tough trying to get around the area of the chasm in Shadesmar, specifically.
  11. Lightflame, Don't let anyone tell you that comic books aren't real books. I wrote my masters thesis on Superman and it was accounted quite good. In fact, I recently read a study that linked comic book reading to reading comprehension and my wife (who is pursuing a doctorate in linguistics) is considering a study to see if deaf children can learn to read English better/quicker with comics. Shardlet, Lord of the Rings is my favourite book of all time. I have read it at least once a year for the last twenty years. That particular reference has been signed in books for me by more than two dozen authors. I've got some weird looks (Neil Gaiman almost fell out of his chair laughing.) but Brandon was the only one who didn't even bat an eyelash.
  12. I first heard of Brandon a few years back when it was announced that he was taking over Wheel Of Time after RJ's passing. When The Gathering Storm came out I couldn't remember any of the storylines, so I decided to wait until I had the time for a proper re-read before reading the final ones. After Towers of Midnight, I finally had that chance. In fact, I met Brandon at a signing in Sacramento that very day. I was impressed by how friendly and approachable he was (he wrote in my book "Ever you have been my friend and ally.") in the time between that and AMOL I read all of WOT twice. His own work had been following me for sometime. One of my best friends read Elantris and told me time and again that I needed to check it out. His son devoured The Alcatraz books and as a family have read all his other books. I bought a copy and thought it brilliant. I suffer from a serious back injury, so the concept of people who never heal from wounds resonates with me in a way I can't describe. That same friend, about two years ago had Allomancy be The magic system in our annual role playing game. That meant that I needed to read Mistborn. At that point, I was hooked.
  13. I thought more about this and I was curious if any books have crossed The Cosmere. Could Elend have read "The Way Of Kings?" is it possible that some of Elend's books are in the great library at Kharbranth? Happyman is probably right, but I kinda think there is more than meets the (Tin)eye about the connection. Consider the Worldbringers, they were Cosmere aware, writers, and religious zealots. It seems feasible that they may have traveled to Roshar for missionary work and brought their religious texts with them.
  14. I was re-reading the Mistborn trilogy (halfway through WOA, now) and I noticed how frequently the characters reference reading various books. Most importantly, The Tale of Rashek and Alendi's Journal. That got me thinking about the other references to reading in The Cosmere. Warbreaker Siri reads to Suseborn and teaches him to read and write. Elantris Raodan and Galladon figure out how to fix the Aons by reading old books. Mistborn Alendi's Journal. Rashek's story. Elend is always reading. Sazed is ALWAYS reading. Stormlight Archive "Way of Kings" is a life changing book to Gavilar and Dalinar. Shallan and Jasnah spend a lot of time in a library. Alethi men can't read Of course, there is also the Ars Arcanums and The Letter. It seems to me that there is a connection here.
  15. I only found one episode of the Shardcast available, where could I find more?
  16. Hi, I know I'm new here but I would like to suggest that we do a re-read of Brandon's Cosmere books. (Like tor.com does with their Way Of Kings and Wheel of Time Re-reads.The 4th Age Wheel of Time Podcast did one too.) I would suggest we do it in the following order: Elantris Hope of Elantris The Emperor's Soul Mistborn Well of Ascension Hero of Ages Alloy of Law Warbreaker Way of Kings Words of Ascension (?) I considered staggering the reading order thusly: Elantris Hope of Elantris The Emperor's Soul Mistborn Warbreaker Well of Ascension Way of Kings Hero of Ages Alloy of Law Words of Ascension Just a thought. It could be fun. Cheers.
  17. HI, It's nice to be here and I'd like to voice my appreciation to the staff for giving me an opportunity to introduce myself. I'm 30, I live in Sacramento, CA. I work in auto insurance. I'm married to a fantastic woman with whom I recently shared my two year anniversary. Cheers! I started reading Brandon's books when I heard he was taking over for the Wheel Of TIme. I REALLY liked Elantris. I suffered a serious back injury when I was 14, so I really related to The Elantrans suffering. It was brilliant. This might make me lose a few mates, but I didn't much care for Mistborn. I don't know why, but it didn't grab me. Still, I trudged my way through all the books. Warbreaker was very good and Way of Kings was absolutely brilliant. I read a lot of comic books (i have over 15,000) and Lord Of The Rings is my favourite book of all time. Thanks for reading.
