Lift thought the 2nd ideal of the Edgedancers?
Cromptj replied to Localconfusi0n's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that the Ideals are a logical progression, so it is very difficult to realise one out of order. So Kaladin would have to know that he wants to protect those who cannot protect themselves before he can decide he wants to uphold his next ideal. -
And Amaram probably was delayed because of his injuries. He has a crushed leg and then had to learn how to use his Shards.
-
I think that Amaram is generally known to be a Shardbearer. I can't remember the exact quote but some of the Bridge 4 members know that Amaram is a Shardbearer.
-
If Mrs Dalinar (for want of a better name) died during childbirth while giving birth to Renarin, this might explain why Adolin does not remember her as he would have only been about 2.
-
I think House Kholin personally own at least 3 full sets of Shards. The Shards which Dalinar won presumably also belong to the Kholins and are to be returned when the war is over or they grow too old to fight. But the Kholin princedom probably control several more sets of blade and plate, which are owned by their vassals. This bumps their total number of Shardbearers to about 8-10, around a quarter of all the Shardbearers in Alethkar, and makes them the most powerful faction in terms of military power by far. But clearly not all of them are in the Shattered Plains, or we would see them participating in battles. So where are the rest of the Kholin Shardbearers? I would guess that at least one was left behind to guard the queen and provide a suitable show of strength, which leaves, at minimum, 2 left. These are probably either unfit for battle (too old etc.) or they are protecting the borders. Alethkar does seem to have a much greater proportion of its Shards owned by lower ranking lighteyes, though. The king of Jah Keved had three full Shardbearers as his bodyguard while Elhokar does not have a single one. This probably means that there is at least one more Kholin Shardbearer (Tearim?) in Kholinar to act as a bodyguard.
-
Sounds like a lighteyes because of the use of Prince so that probably rules out Kaladin. I would guess that it is Navani, Shallan or some as yet unseen lighteyed woman speaking. or Wit. The tone sounds too teasing/flirtatious (this should be a surgebinding order) to be anyone else I can think of.

Odium would have had to invest to create Voidbringers and the Unmade. I would guess that their levels of investiture into Roshar were roughly equal pre Honor splintering because if humans on Roshar were created by a shard, it was almost certainly Cultivation. Otherwise, the rest of your post seems pretty plausible.

Perhaps the Oathpact involved Honor giving some of his power to Odium. Odium took the power because it would let him break the stalemate but Honor's intent corrupted him slightly forcing Odium to obey certain rules associated with the Oathpact. The Oathpact was enforced by the Heralds who were bond to some of Honor's power which Odium got. When they broke their oaths, Honor's influence on Odium decreased and over 5000 years Odium marshalled enough power to overcome the remnants of Hoor's power and cause a final desolation.

But Moash is young enough that Renarin and Adolin might remember him, plus

I'm planning an all-nighter to finish the book before school starts in the morning. Why can't Tor release the book on a Saturday?

Maybe this is the biggest plot twist of all. Teft is Dalinar's secret first son whose existence got erased from his memory and he regains his memory just as Teft is killed by the Parshendi in their artificial highstorm.

I think we need to introduce a new reputation system for puns. I would downvote some of the more appalling ones if they didn't make me laugh so much (and if I wasn't worried that someone will spike me).

If you got a copy of WoR before release for three hours only...
Cromptj replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I reckon I could read to at least halfway, after skipping past the preview chapters. If I could read the first three parts, I could treat the rest of the book when it comes out like a really full on sequel. -
I would imagine that a dead body is a bit easier to soulcast because it has less Investiture.

I think that the gemhearts in chulls were mentioned and they were more valuable in the chull than outside. So the size of gemheart in a chull is probably about as big as a mark, because stealing a herd of chull got someone enslaved but if they were valuable that a broam each, the man almost certainly would have been killed. Assuming that the size of gemheart was roughly proportional to body size, the gemhearts in axehounds would be tiny.

This is the first glimpse that tells is something useful about the plot, though. We now know that Kaladin does not do anything stupid when he sees Amaram.

Shallan's Memories are the Illumination surge.
Cromptj replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have always thought that Memories were stored cognitive processes in Shadesmar, like a memory bank, so in theory, she should be able to store emotions and thoughts in there as well. I am pretty sure that every time Shallan takes a Memory, she is around spheres. She is always carrying them in her safe pouch which she keeps near, even when bathing or sleeping. -
Even with a human translator, mistakes are inevitable if you translate things to another language and back without context. I heard an anecdote in which a group of people were celebrating Burns night in Germany, they translated the address to the Haggis into German "Great chieftain of the puddin' race..." And when it was translated back, it ended up being "Mighty fuhrer of the sausage people"

These puns are so Ham-fisted. We need a Breeze of fresh air. We won't be so Sarene when a Highstorm fills us with Odium. Our keeps will be Ruined and we will have to Invest heavily to Preserve what is Lift, I mean left. Someone might have to Elend us some coins. If we show little Devotion, we will be Endowed with Splinters and Shards.

Running into Sanderson readers in random places
Cromptj replied to TheShogun's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I've never met anyone who I hadn't already converted. Does anyone know if there is a large fan base in the UK? I'm guessing yes. -
Sell. Kaladin will be Honor's champion.
