But after the initial heat of the moment, the war is basically an economic venture. And using modern concepts of morality to decide whether an alien civilisation whose religion is based around the fact that war is the highest calling is misguided. By their standards, and pretty much any society's, even in the present day, assassinating a head of state hours after they signed a treaty with you would be a justifiable reason to go to war. With all the collateral damage Szeth caused it was basically an act of war. I completely agree with the Alethi's choice to go to war, what I think was wrong was their objective of the war, which seems to mainly be kill Parshendi, get rich and pretend to still be angry that they killed the king who beat us all in battle until we were forced to join his nation.

By the time that the other known surgebinders were aware and consciously surgebound (surgebinded?), their spren seemed to be sentient, although we did not get much of Jasnah's reationship with Ivory. And Shallan's spren did speak to her, or something did.

We might get a scene where Kal finds Jezrien and gets his power+responsibility as leader of the Heralds.

Would onyx fit the description of smokestone?

Does anyone know how many chapters will go up before the book is released?

It probably took so long for Amaram to reach the Shattered Plains because he had a shattered leg and then had to leard how to use shardblade/plate.

I think that if the translation was questionsble, Jasnah would have mentioned in her notes.

UK iBooks edition has many instances of hyphenated words which should not be e.g shard-blade/plate/bearer and high-prince. Shard-blade/plate/bearer occurs 17 times (from a search) and high-prince occurs 15 times. High-storm and Storm-father appears once and Storm-light appears 17 times. They do not affect the reading but I thought you might want to know.

I could see Szeth becoming good and then betraying the others by becoming Odium's champion. Kaladin, Dalinar, and Shallan seem too naturally good to become Odium's champion. I have not seen enough of Eshonai to have an opiion.

Words Of Radiance Back Cover Questions
Cromptj replied to Colateralwar's topic in Stormlight Archive
Jasnah is an Elsecaller. Has anyone asked Brandon if the Parshendi can surgebind? -
Time seems to be too overpowered, unless it is just seeing possibilities of the future. I think that magnetism might work a bit too much like Mistborn. I would agree with resonance, or something electrical based. The "thunder" might be a result of the vibrations caused by the resonance.

She could always dislike the idea of being forced into traditional gender roles; she rejects the "feminine arts" as useless. She may have not really liked Amaram, knew her father would not press the issue and thought that being married would inhibit her travels and scholarship.

Jasnah could have been running slightly late before she got sucked into Shadesmar and was then made noticeably late, even without standardised timekeeping.

Windows for the gaming and general usage. although I would not touch Windows 8 with a bargepole. I like OSX in general, but numerous small issues make it a deal breaker for me.

I would agree that it seems unlikely. However, I would not put it past Brandon to reveal Gavilar as a surgebinder with the light surge to disguise Tearim. But there is a lot of evidence against this. Gavilar's last words, for example. And as to there being no mention of Tearim, Elkohar is incredibly paranoid and I would think that one of the first things he would do is get rid of the man who let his father die, that being said, Dalinar never thinks or mentions Tearim either.

Plus the Ardentia can all read, male and female. If a lighteyed man really wants to pursue scholarship, he would have to join the priesthood, as many did pre Age of Enlightenment. The darkeyes, like many lower classes throughout history, would not be able to read anyway. The fact that vorin women are restricted to these roles probably means that there are more scholars per head in an equivalent real world society e.g. medieval Europe as they would all have to read, draw, know history etc. to be considered a "proper woman".

Do we know for sure that a shardblade causes its wielder's eyes to turn light permanently?

What are you most excited about to see in Words of Radiance
Cromptj replied to Andy50's topic in Stormlight Archive
1. Kaladin leading and saving Dalinar 2. Learn more about shadesmar 3. Find out if the unnamed shardbearer is Shallan's eldest brother 4. See Szeth and Kaladin fight 5. Learn more about the 17th shard 6. Shallarin -
I agree with Natans, Dalinar probably dies, but they could find some voidbringers which cause some destruction or something.

Theory: Kaladin meant to to wield a Shardblade? (Spoilers)
Cromptj replied to Punter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Taln's shard is described as an enormous sword like a spike. And I still think that a naginata would take some adapting to, especially as Kaladin uses a short spear, not a long spear or a pike.- 42 replies

We still have the quote from Hoid that there is a good reason for lighteyes being in charge. This suggests to me that there could be some kind of additional investiture or something to make a lighteyes different.

1. Plausible 2. Read chapter 1 of WoR on Tor. Could still be possible though. 3. I thought we had WoB that Szeth's power was got in a different way to Kaladin's, this suggests to me that no spren were involved, even if he does not have a spren at the moment. 4. Don't buy at all. 7. Read the readings, specifically Eshonai's. It seems pretty unlikely. EDIT: for grammar and clarity

Are you guys going to change the links for Jasnah and Kaladin's passages to a link to the release on Tor and add Chapter 1?
