  1. So if human life was put on Roshar, it would explain the discrepancies between the other life on Roshar and the humans. Given what Brandon and the others have said on Writing Excuses, I think that this is pretty much given.
  2. Well, if Kaladin takes Szeth's shardblade, he would stop being Truthless and then would be free to do whatever he likes. If this happens, Szeth may well feel so indebted to Kaladin that he would agree to help.
  3. "And Dalinar died, having tripped over his new crown and fallen off the balcony. It was exactly 62 days after the message"
  4. I would not be surprised if the 10 names were related to each of the Heralds' powers. Also from the preview chapters on Tor,
  5. Is the deleted chapter from the first draft, or the original? Because I believe the original was almost as different from the current edition as Mythwalker was as Warbreaker.
  6. So could the above quote suggest that human life on Roshar was created by Adonalsium?
  7. Brandon often reuses terms and names that he likes but changes their meaning.
  8. I can't understand that, but tis ok for I am apathyspren
  9. Does anyone know why the flashbacks for the second arc were changed?
  10. As of writing, WoR is currently available for $21 on Amazon
  11. Can you find the specific quote for this? Also, shardblades are heavily implied to have been created with the radiants by the action of spren.
  12. There's no hope of getting an offer for me. I'm ordering the US hardcover to the UK and trying to get the e-book on iBooks. I might subscribe to Audible just to get the audiobook.
  13. In the real world, industrial, precision glass production, on the scale that the spheres would need, did not start until the mid 19th century. So I think the soulcasting clay idea would work. Also, if I lived on Roshar, the Ardentia would be my first pick to be in charge of monetary regulation. They control all the soulcasters so they are ideally placed to manufacture the spheres. They are also not allowed any possessions so there would be very little danger of theft or embezzlement. The apparent cost of soulcasting is mostly, I believe, in the form of a duty set by the monarch so he could remove the duty on soulcasting entirely for making spheres. Also, it would make sense foe the Ardentia to waive their customary fee, if they ask for one, so they could control the money. Btw, are spheres only used for currency in Vorin countries? Off the top of my head, I can't think of a scene outside a Vorin nation which features spheres as currency. This could be another pointer towards an Ardent controlled currency.
  14. Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud is very good, though not really high fantasy. Also the Elenium by Eddings, which I think is better than the Belgariad. Also Pern but that's science fiction. Pretty much everything else has already been mentioned. Also Lovecraft.
  15. On the subject of UK visits, will Brandon be coming for WorldCon this year?
  16. How about "I will lead those who need guidance"
  17. On the subject of e-books, does anyone know how long after release the price drops? I have already preordered WoR but I'm not made of money and I'd like to get a digital copy so I can actually read it somewhere outside my house.
  18. If people can and have counterfeited amethyst or any other gem, people probably already know about it and insist that any amethyst sphere they get is infused. Gemstones seem to be more common on Roshar anyway so the gem sizes are probably a bit bigger than you might think. Also, judging from Roshar's current technological state, it is easier and probably cheaper to just soulcast the sphere around the gem.
  19. A bit off topic but do we know if the Heraldic Epochs ended at the Aharietam or at the Recreance?
  20. Highprince of agriculture? Maybe not all the highprinces had specialisations. If two or three highprinces were always defending the borders, they might have been too busy to take other jobs.
  21. Unless we start with ES e.g. ES 1173 Jezeses. I do see where you're coming from though.
  22. Judging from descriptions in the book, it looks like impulse (change in momentum) is what is required to break shardplate quickly. So I would advocate using some kind of fabrial gun powered by a projectile linked to a missile on a siege ballista. If you set up three or four ballistae, you could have several bullets.
  23. Era of solitude works better as ES for dates because we can then use E1 for the Heraldic Epochs.
