This chapter was AMAZING First up poor Kal, reading him like this is killing me. He's freezing in battle and putting people's life at risk? Men, things got really dark for him this past year... "The honorspren cannot be trusted, the pen wrote. Not anymore. " Shadesmar subplot just got a lot more interesting!!! Shallan and Adolin's interaction were lovely and disturbing at the same time.Adolin confusing all the secret societies was hilarious, there's a Lot to keep track off. May I add I'm also scared of Formless. PS Charachters going Cosmere Aware!!! My long last dream is one step closer!(or was this just an eaater egg, no way? right)

“Kaladin,” Syl said, “it’s getting worse. This… distance to your expression, this fatigue. It happens whenever you run out of Stormlight. As if… you can only keep going while it’s in you.” It's sure starting to seem like if not the main problem Stormlight addiction does play a big role on Kal. Ooohh, poor Kal, reading his POV through chapter 9 just killed me. I need him to get better, he desearves it!!!

Augmenters using pewter!!!!!!!!!! And it's the metal that causes the fabrial to consume the higher amount of Stormlight?!!! Just like pewter allomancy is the one that burns metal the fastest. There are no longer just similarities, it's like we're are finally seeing the true importance of metals in the Cosmere. I'm telling u, this epigraphs heve me screaming of excitement every week. Huuummh...what would tin do??(since it's pewter partner)

Looooved this idea. This way we can enjoy Moash( at least I do) as a villain for the Stormlight series at the same time he's being build up as a major Cosmere player. I could totally see a redeemed but still very troubled Moash on Kelsier's new crew. BTW that epilogue scene description with Hoid's monologue to Moash gave me literal chills.

This discussions regarding Gaz and how much he can be held accountable for his acctions while in charge of B4 and how much of it can be blamed on "the system" reminded me of the Standford Prision Experiment. First up, I want to make clear that every human being is completely responsable for his/her actions no matter how complex the situation he/she is involved might be. Gaz chose not to stand up to the injustice his lighteye superiors were imposing and even more he chose to perpetrate it. Gaz chose to behave sadistically and to take advantage of his position of power over the bridgemen. That is not up for debate, the question is if those actions necessarily make him a bad human being and this is where I remembered the Standford Prision Experiment. If you don't know the SPE "was a social psychology experiment that attempted to investigate the psychological effects of perceived power, focusing on the struggle between prisioners and prisión officers. It was conducted at Standford Universitario on the days of August 14–20, 1971, by a research group led by psychology professor Philip Zimbardo using college students. In the study, volunteers were assigned to be either "guards" or "prisoners" by the flip of a coin, in a mock prison, with Zimbardo himself serving as the superintendent. Several "prisoners" left mid-experiment, and the whole experiment was abandoned after six days. Early reports on experimental results claimed that students quickly embraced their assigned roles, with some guards enforcing authoritarian measures and ultimately subjecting some prisoners to psychological torture, while many prisoners passively accepted psychological abuse and, by the officers' request, actively harassed other prisoners who tried to stop it. The experiment has been described in many introductory social psychology textbooks, although some have chosen to exclude it because its methodology is sometimes questioned." (thanks Wikipedia) This is similar to conclusiones reached when analyzing the actions by regular people put in positions of power during the nazi regime. Sorry for the aweful examples but sadly in human history people in small positions of power during wars or slavery( or as in This chase, both) have often acted in horrible ways. Gaz's actions are clearly not those of a hero, but not of a villain either (not in the way Moash's, Sadeas' or Rayse's can be) simply of a commun man that acted like it was to be expected of him in a very complex situation( he was being threaten of being turn into a bridgemen, in hunter or prey scenarios even more people hace a tendency to do anything not to become prey) This being said I, as a reader, have not forgive him. When he first met Kal after the events of WoK I felt like Kal was going to demand justice, but he didn't. While Kaladin actually demanded justice for Brightlord Amarams' actions in his past ( an actual villain) he never did so with Gaz. I think that he being a better person than I am understands that Gaz isn't a bad person. He just doesn't trust him as "one of the good guys" And here is the thing, I don't know enough about history but I'm guessing that when the Standford PE ended the college student who participated felt responsable for what they had done and after the Nazi regimed was defeated people like the ones I described earlier on( that weren't necessarily bad, just didn't wanna end up dead) felt sick and disgusted by their own actions. This can go either way: break u forever or make u commited to showing yourself that you can be a better human being. And don't this two things sound exactly like the recipe for a Knight Radiant? I believe that Gaz is really trying, in his own way( nobody ends up a better person from night to mourning), to do things the right way and small details of this has been shown. Something as simple as getting WoR to Shallan on WoR was his way of saying thank you for saving me from myself. I really hope that we get to see in book a little bit more of his growth. I don't think he has to apologize to B4, his actions would speak much louder. I believe that on RoW will get at least a small gester from him to see his redemption arc more clearly because like many others I think it's hasn't been shown enough. What I would hate is if he ends up betraying the main charachters or something like that because I really believe he's the king of person that given the chance will live up to the expectations. I really think that KR and even more Lightweavers really represent the spirit that nothing in live can break u so much that there isn't hope foto you to become a better person if you accept to yourself the mistakes you made and who you were, ate and are capable of being. So, really excited to read Gaz's trueths wich *fingerscrossed" we might get on this next book. PS: Sorry this was so long, but I've been following this thread since the beginning and I really felt like I had to share my opinions. PS2: I'm not at expert on the subjects of history or psychology, I simply mentioned those examples to make some comparison to real life.

Vin's Earring and Nightblood's Sheath
Shardsplinter replied to pharaoh9000's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Just read this entire thread thinking that if people were talking about it maybe there had been a big breakthrough on silver or aluminum. Goes Without saying that I just ascended a tiny bit to Frustation. Now being more serious, a simple WoB search will give 1- "Questioner What's the deal with silver? Why does it not fit cleanly into the Allomantic metals, why is aluminum a special one and not silver. Why is it silver powder and not aluminum powder on Threnody? These kinds of questions. Brandon Sanderson Do you want the in-world answer... or the writerly answer? Questioner Well really I want the in-world answer. Brandon Sanderson ...The in-world answer is that people are not sure yet. Questioner Well, that's not the in-world answer. That's the in world answer from Khriss, right? What about the in-world answer from-- Brandon Sanderson That's the in-world answer--they're not sure yet... The writerly answer is that we started with silver in place of tin. And by the time I swapped it out, aluminum was already its thing. If I had to do it over again, I might make silver aluminum, but I wanted what aluminum does to be rare, and silver isn't. So I might not have. I love what aluminum does because it's super-rare pre-industrial, but you hit industrial and it's everywhere. So it allowed me to do, when we get to modern era, to have real checks on Allomancy as Allomancy gets more powerful." And 2- "Kenzal Would it make an Allomancer sick if they tried to burn pure silver? Brandon Sanderson As it stands right now, nothing would happen, because they would know if it did. Good question. Silver has some weird properties, but on Scadrial they are largely undiscovered." (But existent???) And a bunch of others implying that silver Will play a major Cosmere role and when we actually get it's investiture related abilities canonnized we will all be like "OMG this is so coooool and I never Even expected it, but now that I see it it makes total sense!"( Typical fan reaction to a Sanderson revelation) Look if not for anything else Silver will have an important rol on Cosmere just because BS has been wanting to give it to it ever since he had to change silvereyes to tineyes. What was taken must be resturned: the ship of allomantic abilities for silver has long sailed away, but it's journey of Cosmere significance has just begun....- 59 replies

This makes sense and I actually agree with you, but I'm not convinced. I remember that on Rysn's interlude from OB she said she had seen a radiant( probably Renarin) and that he couldn't heal her legs because they had become part of her identity. So, either there is a similarity between using Progression and Stormlight to heal and the way you view urself spiritually or maybe not even our charachters know the difference between Progression and Stormlight healing ( in-world missinterpretation of investiture mechanichs has happen before) You could Also say that when she refers to the legs being part of her identity it's only becas of how long it has been since the injury but I believe that would still be influenced by the person's spiritual self. So, the main question is do we have an example of the surge of Progression being used to heal a long term injury???

Shallan's Childhood Secret (Theory Time!)
Shardsplinter replied to Harfyn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Her past secrets until now have been in some way self defense: Her mother was clearly trying to kill her and her Father, after being abussive for a very long time, was indangering the lifes of the rest of his family. Killing someone is always a horrible deed, but in This scenarios one could argue the morality of what Shallan did. I believe that this next truth will be something Shallan did that, thow probably not intentional, has no possible justification. Also if we notest a pattern: the first truth killing her Father Made us think as we got to learn that story that he had kill her mother. But, then we learned that it was she who killed her mother. I think the same kind of relation will be between the moment she killed her mother and this new truth. Maybe one of the reasons her mother decided she was a danger or beleived and outside opinion( be there the Skybreakers or someone else) that she was a danger was because of this horrible thing she had aleeady done. Tinhat part because I don't think this actually makes sense according to Brandon's interest on a more realistic DID representation: Veil has always felt like a very real part of Shallan and now is this part that wants her to remember. So maybe Shallan killed Veil!!!! Or more accurately Shallan killed a darkeyes girl she used to play with probably the daughter of a house maid or servant. Veil is her way of keeping that girl alive within herself -
Is it possible that the same way Feruchemical gold heals the body, Allomantic gold actually offers a sort of help to see yourself in a healthier way spiritually. (Since we don't have many examples of detailed gold shadows or of allomancers actually letting themselfs be affected by their gold shadows-it's described by Vin and Kell as a weird feeling- for this theory I'm assuming that all atium alloys are related to the basic metal but changed or enhanced by the atium- don't think we know enough this far to affirm or denny this- so mallatium let's u see other people's gold shadows) If we analize the best example of a gold shadow I can remember( with the assumption I made) TLR's, we saw him as a shepperd or a farmer(I don't exactly remember) or just a simpler man. So my theory is that this version of Rashek would have been happier and healthier spiritually and mantally. If so, then I'm guessing the surge of Progression is capable of both kinds of Healing, similar to Feruchemical gold but also to Allomantic gold( This would add up with all surges having a physical and spiritual manifestation). So, I don't think what we Saw in This chapter is similar to when he saw future possibilities like his cousin killing him. I think it's just the result of him using spiritual Progression on Moarsh( like he deserves it) and then using Illumination to show that. And it looks similar to a gold/ mallatium shadow because those are also spiritual Healing I know that it has been stated that Renarin's Illumination doesn't work normally but I think this doesn't allow him to lightweave willingly but wouldn't stop him from unconsciously casting an illution as a result of a spiritual connection/ use of his surge Progression.

So, guys, I'm really not seeing the pattern as to when can you heal a long-term injury with Stormlight. I know it depends on how you view yourself spiritually but so far we have: Lopen: a charachter confident of himself and that considers his lack of an arm a defining part of himself ( or at least his many jokes and coments make it seem like such) is able to grow hack the arm through streanght of will?. I just can't see him as not having accepted yet this part of him. Maybe his confidence from the first time he saw Kal absorb Stormlight on the fact that he once would too helped him change the way he saw himself. Gaz: a charachter who could never accept that a missing eye was part of his identity was able to grow it back. But then: Rysn: a charachter that has always seen herself as intrepide, some kind of adventurer or explorer, with the dream of travelling the world as he master merchant sees a disabilitie that would make all of that at the very least unlikely as part of her identity? ( maybe she thinks subconsciously that she deserves it because of the decitions she took on the Reshi island) What do u think? Is this all making more sense to everybody else? PS Healing urself and being healed by another radiant with the surge of progression might also be slightly different (I don't think so but unless there's an in book or WoB specifically saying so it's still a fact to take into account)

This chapter felt like it ended too soon!!!! I can't wait to know what secrets does Ialai's book has! Also I kind of felt like the Shin wine ( since they are was the ones that better preserved the more "human" traditions and culture after they worldhop from Ashyn) was a hint at other nonRoshar cultures or worldhoppers influencing the major players on Roshar. Maybe the secret the GB don't want Shallan to find out will make her more Cosmere aware. After all I feel like it might be time for our main charachters to deal with more Cosmere aware situations This would also match with Brandon's chapter 7 annotations saying that in this book we might be dealing with more Cosmere aware antagonist( which is also why I don't think Ialai will directly provide this information but rather lead Shallan in the right way to obtein it) This might also make since if we realize that this series has has more important secondary worldhopping charachters than any other before. I mean, at some point our protagonists have to start asking themselfs the big questions. Also, Moash: trying to get Kal to kill himself is a new low, even for u!! Renarin's Illumination is really weird( maybe a stronger form of Shallan's ability to draw the best possible versions of others?) Would really like to read what everyones's thinking he actually did in that scene and why?

This was amazing!!!!!!! My inside voice was singinig all the way like I was un the Middle of The Stormlight Prince Disney Movie! When Kal said his 3rd oath I started shaking of the excitement, and Syl saying thieir Bond was strongear than ever, so good. Your song was not only a fun parody but also a great backgroung to one of my favorite scenes from WoR, know I'll hear it every time I reread it. PS: bless us with more amazing Cosmere songs PS2: Lift singing everything is awesome would be.....ehm....Awesome and like full of awesomness and some other starvingly amazing stuffs.

OMG that was brutally and depressively amazing!!!!!! I just read the first chapter and couldn't stop till the end. When I was reading OB I actually felt For a sec there like Dalinar could get odiumed, gladly sad to see it written here so well. Some of my highligts: Szeth's plot gone so wrong.....it went right? ( glad to c 1 of my favorite charachters not end up Dead and actually be sort of happy?) Taln and Ash summoning their Honorblades( know I really want 2 c that in the books) Jasnah soulcasting aluminium( it just feels like her kind of good idea) and defeating Amaram ( I'm fine with Odium winning and ending all live but Amaram getting away with everything, that I just can't have) Rock seeing Syl and (even thow he was sure up until then Kal was still alive) still finding the streanght to keep fighting and protecting others( Kal would be proud) B44EVER!!!

So, I've always been a fan of original and detailed magic systems, and I actually use to spent a lot of times thinking about the possibilities of different forms of magic and weird creatures that just came to my mind. Then the coolest thing happens: I asked a good friend to help me with some fan research I was doing on finding new kinds of magic. We talked about it 4 a while but came up standing pretty much the same way as when we started. Couple of weeks later she calls saying: "remember how u were looking 4 magic that felt sort of different, well...get ready to drop dead! U need to read Mistborn ASAP, oh! and there's this charachter who stores religions that I know u r gonna love" That's how I met the king of original and detailed magic systems. All 3 mistborn era 1 books were one jaw-drop after another and the HoA final I couldn't stop crying. When I finish it I reread the epigraphs and came to the part that goes something like"I have looked and researched and all I have been able to find is a name Adonalsium ,who or waht was? that I still don't know" One quick Internet search, about a month and 12 books later and u have a full sworn Sanderfan. PS: Now I spend a loooot of my time thinking about the possibilities of different forms of investiture and weird races and creatures born out of Brandon's mind. So the same as B4() but Cosmere obsessed. Spoilered(Mistborn) PS:

Gloryspren For you MrDoomstick!!!! In deed it's our good old Warbreaker the Peaceful. -
I've been really confuse about this scene ever since I read it. Why is he available to deflect the storm. Is it 4th ideal kind of power? I at some time also thought that maybe the same way Windrunners manipulate pression to adhere objects, they can manipulate atmospheric pression to kind of control the storm. Don't really know, why do you think he was able to do that back at the beginning of OB?
