This is hilarious! I sorta feel that Rayse might have faired better in a fashion contest...but TOdium....just no. Does he still wear Vargo's clothes? (How does that even work?) Something I missed in RoW was more interactions between Dal and Ado. I think there was only one or two scened, and the one where the say goodbye before the Shadesmar departure, was so sad (but so good)! I really would have enjoyed some more perspective on their relationship from Dalinar's perspective. We know about Adolin's feelings towards his dad (a "seething knot" is a great analogy), but is Dal really as disappointed as he acts? Because if his is....What is wrong with him? Can he really be so blind? Adolin's the best! (we all know the truth). I hope the next book brings them together for a significant amount of time, so they can repair their relationship. The thought of Dalinar fighting TOdium's champion while still thinking Ado hasn't "earned" being a Radiant (and with Ado harboring the deep hate) would just break my heart.

I love her as a character, but I agree that that her some of here chapters were...not necessarily disappointing, but not my favorites. Especially the flashbacks. I just couldn't get into the flashbacks in this one. But am super emotionally invested in her "redemption" story. And maybe it's too obvious to happen, but I really ship her and Rlain. I was so excited for them to meet, and I loved the few passages we got with them interacting. The have both been so lonely despite being surrounded by "friends", I really wanted them to fall in love have lots of Listener babies. But as it played out, I was glad Rlain didn't forgive her outright, since she really did some terrible stuff that had dire consequences. Felt more real that he's kinda pissed at her, and the scene where he yells at her was amazing. I love sassy Rlain!

I had forgotten that. Pretty evil plan for sure, but didn't it end up not killing many people? I had sort of wondered if that was it. Was she just so motivated (and capable) to end the war that others were afraid she'd succeed? But doesn't ring to me. Plus Leshwi seemed basically aligned with that (or at least amenable to it.). Based on her nickname I was sorta hoping she'd be like an evil Fused-genie I guess no one is getting their wishes now.

lol that all definitely needs to happen! I bet after spending so much time with the spren and their crazy but distinctive fashion sense, Ado's gonna be at the top of his game when he gets back. He's should really take a sabbatical like Kal () and spend a year designing clothes. There's honor in that!

Was anyone else surprised by Raboniel's character arc? Like, wasn't she supposed to be....super evil-crazy? Leshwi and (I think) the Sibling were both horrified when they saw her, as if she was the single most evil Fused ever....but it seemed to be the complete opposite. She was surprisingly sane. Did I miss some description of the atrocities she carried out in past lives? Any idea why they reacted that way about her? And why is she called the Lady of Wishes? Is she the on making wishes or granting them?

I loved his story line so much in this book. Some bits were a bit predictable, but so satisfying all the same. I don't find him to be "too perfect", I think he just tries REALLY hard because that's the person he wants to be. But the dude has his issues just like everyone else. Maybe not as extreme as the others, but damn, trying to live up to the Blackthorn is a recipe for disaster. I'm actually kinda surprised how well things turned out for him in this book. Ado saves the day, makes everyone feel better, brings Honor back to Lasting Integrity (and the hearts of men?), and looked effortlessly stylish the whole time. I can't help but feel this bodes poorly for him the next book.

I just finished RoW a couple days ago and I'm still so mad-sad about Teft. Brandon, why would you do this??? It hurts so much!!! I loved him and was hoping for so much more of him in upcoming books. His relationship with Kal (and everyone else too) was so fun and felt unique in a way that's hard to explain. I understand how his death works in terms of character development for Kal......but I hate that that's how his death feels to me. I hate that after the [redacted] life he endured, he FINALLY is able to accept people caring for him...and then he dies like 2 hours later. It so cruel! Oh and he first has to suffer the death of his sweet spren. Why?!!! Plus, I've been intrigued by the Envisager for so long. We got one last little teasing mention of them, but I I really hope that's not the last we here. I'm totally convinced (...secretly hoping..) he was super invested at the time of his death and in the next book he'll re-inhabit his creepy/grumpy soulcast statue (like Clod! lol) BTW, Kutica, thank you for starting this thread. I needed a place to vent these emotions!

Thaidakar is on his way to becoming like ...
PleatherDuster replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I totally forgot about that! Yeah, that was definitely pretty bad. I guess my memory from the pre-RoW is a bit foggy. They tried to kill Jasnah too! But in SLA term, that's not...too evil? All the other "organizations" (or at least their members) have seemed worse to me, though admittedly I've always enjoyed the Ghostbloods (Mraize and Iyatil anyways) so maybe I'm a bit biased. Probably even more so now that Thaidakar's identity is confirmed. -
Thaidakar is on his way to becoming like ...
PleatherDuster replied to Ixthos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can’t imagine him turning out to be nearly as bad as Rashek. It would be a major disappointment in an otherwise delightful character arch. Really we just have so little info about what he’s been up to, so I’m going to keep on assuming that the situation is more complicated than it appears ....any maybe Hoid is the “real” bad guy. Lol. Also, aside from Mraize kidnapping Lift, the Ghosties haven’t been shown doing anything TOO bad have they? -
My heart dying in the Well of Ascension
PleatherDuster replied to BridgeFourRecruit's topic in Mistborn
It was an emotional hit for sure, but also a great plot twist. Congrats on reading Mistborn, btw! I read it for the first time this summer after also being a Stormlight fan, and I found all the books in the series to be delightful. But the Well of Ascension is my favorite from the first series--I love it so much. My husband is actually reading it for the first time right now also, and he just read about Koloss and was very intrigued by that. I can't mention most of my favorite emotional parts in WoA since I don't want to spoil anything (I'm not sure how far you are), but in general I love the "feeling" of the gang being trapped in the city and the impending doom of being surrounding by invading armies. And I love the Zane storyline. -
Adolin desperately wants to live up to his father's standards. He wants to live by the codes and make Dalinar proud. I could easily see killing Sadeas as "breaking" him...to an extent. He lost control and thinks his father would be ashamed. He also seems quite shaken up by everyone around him being Radiant, leaving him feeling useless--which is especially hard with him being raised a shardbearing prince. And if he's not broken yet... when Shallan/Veil and Kaladin have their inevitable affair, that will surely break him. But seriously, I hope he does NOT become a radiant. It's less fun if every Kholin is a Radiant. There could surely be some fun plot twists that require non-radiant characters.

I just finished rereading Oathbringer, and I'm curious about the Cryptic spren that Wit bonds in the Epilogue. It seems to be "suck" there at the broken palace. Do we know why it can't just return to Shadesmar? If a spren begins bonding a human and the human dies before being fully bonded, does the spren get trapped in the Physical Realm? Is that what happened with Eshonai and Timbre? Also, a side question. Wit mentions the Fused may have a secret reason for digging up the rubble. Any thoughts on that? First I though they were also looking for the Cryptic. But is there something else supposedly going on at the palace location?
-
Yes, but I remember nothing! I'm fine with spoilers, though. Doing a re-read of the series in preparation for RoW.
-
Yes, it makes sense for it to be all 16--but the characters might not necessarily know this? Though I suppose they know you would need nicrosil to make them, and I don't think that was around in TLR's days. How/why does it grant allomantic abilites?
-
I've wondered out this. If you had a given gold bracelet, would two feruchemist with different levels fill them to different extents? I've also wondered if you can gain more storage capacity simply by having a physically larger bracelet (or bracer or whatever). Like could Wayne sore more healing if he had a bigger bracers (or more or them).

I think the Bands origin is supposed to be a bit of a mystery at this point, though I've read speculation the Kelsier was involved in the making and hiding of the bands. Do we know for sure the the Bands (in spearhead form) had all 16 metals? I don't remember that being explicitly stated, but I could be wrong. Wax and Marasi only demonstrated a few ablities when holding it.
-
Interesting. I had wondered about the Rosharian people. I assume they originated in the Shinovar region? Seems like most of the "Earth" animals are associated with the Shin. I'm re-reading WoR right now, and the "chicken" references never fail to make me laugh.

Well that would be a crazy plot twist! If Atium is central to the plot in the last book (and I really hope it is...), I wonder if it will be used Feruchemically or Allomantically? For Allomancy, you'd need an Atium misting--and how would someone even know that they were one? OR a full Mistborn--which is what I'm hoping for! The series is called "Mistborn" after all. Era 2 needs a Mistborn! Atium used via Feruchemy would be interesting ....it stores Determination?

Is it ever revealed why Zane was spiked? Or rather by who? Obviously it was a means Ruin to control him, but who would have had the knowledge to do so. His father? An inquisitor? I always assumed that plot point was going to come back at some point, but I think it's just mentioned that one time and then dropped. It seemed strange that after he died, no one inspected the body and noticed the spike. Also, didn't he have a bag of Atium on him? I figured Vin would end up with his Atium, but I believe she didn't have any from then on out.
-
Well, I'm not well versed on literary requirements for a protagonist, but I would argue Vin, as the the "main character" (most POV chapters), is the protagonist or the Era 1 series. She's our main hero and develops substantially as a person throughout the story. Kelsier and Spook are not consistently prominent characters thought the trilogy. I could understand Sazed being a protagonist for Hero of Ages, but (as I remember it) he's not a major POV character in Final Empire. Same for Elend--we don't get much character development from him until Well of Ascension. The fact that Vin And regarding Era I antagonist--def gotta be Ruin.

Yes, this! And I thought of another: Zane. I had heard that there was no Earth-Cosmere connection. But the naming choices still strike me as interesting, since it seems almost intentional. Sort of reminds me of when he drops in mentions of "Earth" food or animals (i.e. Horses, Strawberries, Chickens) in Stormlight Archive. But perhaps that's meant to be a tie into Mistoborn/Scadrial, if that is serving as an Earth analogue...
-
I've been skimming the interludes. I'm just so impatient for the main story line, since it's so so good. A'-da-lin. emphasis on the first syllable, but soft A. Rhymes with Madeline. I'm guess that's not the right way, but I don't think I could mentally switch now even if i learned that was wrong. Gotta love the Sanderson trope breaking! (Trope Breaker sounds like an order of knights radiant) I can't really remember much of his story line, but I enjoy him a lot in this book, at least so far. I don't "like" him, but I think he adds a nice level of tension. Wildcard!

In Mistborn Era 2 there are characters with Earth names: Wayne, Miles...and a couple others I think. Traditional spellings even. That seemed so strange to me. I can't think of any other characters in Sanderson's books that have names like that. They always tend to have great fantasy names--very distinct. Makes be wonder about Earth-Cosmere connections.
