  1. "Ok, so here's the plan. We need to get Trace and somehow stop her from killing all of us. Jack should have a way to help cure her. I think if we can just pin her down, she shouldn't be able to get out. Despite all her powers, she's still... she's still just a little girl."
  2. "Well, that's certainly impressive" says a voice from behind them. Alein has thrown off his illusion entirely, showing a man in a stylized blue coat hiding a sword. He has wild eyes that seem to faintly glow and has silver lining the collar and sleeves of his coat. He crosses his arms. "I think it needs a little more... flair, though." He waves his hand and covers the graveyard in an illusion of a midnight storm, lightning striking around the already terrified people as it's plunged into near darkness.
  3. Ok... I'm going to steal two coins from Aspiring Writer with my Captain.
  4. So... What's with the Cryptic names? Pattern reveals that all Cryptics would have the name Pattern in Alethi, or something like that. Let me find the actual quote. Interesting for a number of reasons, one of which I think is foreshadowing for the Rhythms later, but I digress The names we know about are Ornament (Beryl's Cryptic), Mosaic (Vathah's Cryptic), and Motif (Ishnah's Cryptic) on page 361 in chapter 26. Then of course, there's Testament at the end of the book. So first off, this means that Shallan just happened to pick the most generic name possible for Pattern in Words of Radiance. Second off, I feel as if Testament is the odd one out here. The rest are related to visual art of some kind, but Testament's name doesn't seem to fit. Granted, it was picked by Shallan and Adolin, not Testament herself. But does it have some kind of connection I'm not seeing? And why would they all be the same?
  5. The man runs through the city below them, periodically changing faces and clothes to make it hard to tell they're being followed.

  7. "What, what?" shouts someone from inside. The door opens, revealing a desk clerk with ink stains all over his hands. "Oh! Um... what can I do for you, sir?" he hurriedly walks back to a desk he was obviously sitting at and puts some papers away. "We've been seeing some zombies and specters. Nothing completely unique, but definitely unusual around here, as well as some other beasts that I've never seen before. We'd like it if you could help us investigate where they might be coming from, or what might be attracting them here. Caira and I can cover a lot of ground, but more eyes would be more helpful."
  8. The man groaned. "I can guess... but if you're looking for Franklin, I don't know any Franklins."
  9. Apparently people really like the Talon... and being corrupted... Ok, let's just say I'm noticing a pattern
  10. "New plan! We need to keep it's attention!" Chrysler walked back into camp a while ago and dismissed her soldiers. She saw her ward go down and groaned for all the effort gone in an instant. But she'd be useless for a while without dust. She found the buckets of ash and starting, slowly, ponderously, doing the ritual to give the dust power. She vaguely heard Andante and Ayia's conversation, but she was too tired to speak up right now.
  11. "Didn't you say this had never been tried before?"
  12. "Apparently. Probably when we got captured by the Talon." Jay hangs his head again. It's obvious he considers it his fault.
  13. "As far as she told me, a long time. She's just a girl, Jack. I think she began the change very early on, and was never exposed to anything to catalyze the full change."
  14. The cashier picked up a loaf of bread and walked out of the store. It was, of course, not a loaf of bread, and he, of course, was not a cashier. But long before he had started ruling a country, he had been a spy, and those old instincts told him to blend in and follow these strange people.
  15. "Children, children, do stop fighting." A voice says, and a figure emerges inside Janice's head. She is a tall woman with bone white skin, and has glowing eyes that change color ever few seconds. Her hair is long, dark, and worn down past her shoulders, but strands of it are slowly being replaced by crystal of various colors, as are her fingernails and a few patches of her skin surrounding her dark Traces. She wears a long black gown, as if going to a ball, and jewelry made out of black and white Annihilate and Animate Qhoral crystals. She carries at her side a small side sword, of a design neither Trace or Janice have ever seen its like. "I don't..." Jay hangs his head. "I don't know. She left, or maybe was taken. She tried to kill all of us, but I know she's still in there somewhere." "He's made this study a... point of interest in the past."
  16. "Not until now" Vale says, looking out over the fires that are partly from Nath and partly from the Fox
  17. "In what way? I'll tell you everything you want to know if you help us get Janice back."
  18. "By the Council, the Cosmere is a strange place." Vale says, more to himself than to her. He closes his eyes as the orb of energy starts to pulse slightly. "This isn't going to stay stable that much longer. I'm stretching rather far to reach this universe. If you're going to do something, do it quickly."
  19. Alvyer nervously knocked on the door. The idea of a "boarding house", while it sounded more like a place where one learned to be a pirate, he knew to be a place to find shelter and food and, hopefully, time alone to plan and research. He steeled himself to face humans again, and hoped that the disaster he had gone through wouldn't happen again. He carried his socks and shoes in his hand as his feet were still slightly damp from his dip in the harbor. That had served to calm his mind well. No one had responded yet. He knocked again. He was anxious to get off the street.
  20. "Honestly? I'd say give it a go. I'm not above killing it. I just think from how Nath talks about it that it may be harder than you think." Vale looks at her face. "What happened to you, Herate?"
  21. "I'd prefer to worry about that later, but if there's anywhere that can handle us dumping a bunch of monsters into it, it's there." The orb he's gathering starts glowing brighter. "Nath, I can open the portal as soon as you're ready!"
  22. Vale stops to glare at her and some sparks fly out from the power he's gathering. "'Ok fine, you want to know the specifics? I'm sending it to a death world. A universe where sane travelers fear to go. They have demons, monsters, and giant robots that can flatten whole cities. The smallest and youngest race of this world is still one of the most technologically advanced civilizations in this Quantum, and they control multiple planets in a galactic wide empire. 50 of their elite warriors would be overkill to take over this whole planet and there are millions of them. As if that wasn't enough, the whole universe has a hole in it from when it collided with another reality, so it's being beseiged by monsters from within the tear through space-time and by an unstoppable horde of aliens intent on eating every scrap of organic material in the cosmos. If the Fox manages to get out of here, I will offer myself to it because it's more powerful than most gods I've met."
