  1. Kandra didn't seem to have any trouble talking within their homeland, though. Could be a degree of metal surrounding issue. We know that being surrounded by a bunch of metal was enough to make it more difficult to try to take over the kandra, so...
  2. I believe he said that Modernborn would be around a century or so after AoL.
  3. Yeah, reverse-compounding was involved apparently, along with normal compounding...
  4. Can ruin hear in areas surrounded by metal?
  5. "Brandon asked me to ask you about this - can an iron compounder become so dense so as to slow down time because of gravity" "Right now I'm thinking there is not enough accessible iron on the planet." I'm guessing TLR is 'near-savant' because either he doesn't want to damage himself, or his compounded health automatically heals away savant damage - like how you can heal shardblade wounds with feruchemical gold.
  6. I believe that mistings normally can't see reserves other than their base metal, though mistborn can see reserves even for nonallomantic fatal stuff... just weird. Feruchemists can feel an affinity for the metals they can use... dunno if they can try to store in nonferuchemic metals. Probably worth asking. Actually, they pretty much would need to, otherwise sazed would have been a huge jerk at the beginning of MB2, since vin got really sick trying bad aluminum alloys.
  7. Forgive me for not citing, but we have WoB that a surgebinder who didn't know what he was doing would become a mistborn by eating lerasium.
  8. allomancers can unintentionally burn metal without being aware or conscious of it. that's how atium mistings were found.
  9. Brandon X Magic Systems OTP
  10. It's not physically there though, you can't give yourself a piggyback ride
  11. Touching it caused stuff to happen. Touching malatium doesn't cause stuff to happen.
  12. Cloak was 100, doll was 50. So ratios don't seem fixed.
  13. So wait, you're saying forgery healing is "change the cognitive aspect of the arm to say 'yo I am healed'"?
  14. I'm just spitballing here, but could easily be a threshold thing where particide would work for levels one through six, but any horrific act only gets you one level.
  15. I do not have copypaste atm and even my quoting prowess has limits. I'll mention that the reddit ama this year included an interesting answer involving magic systems not directly tied to a shard.
  16. I think it's possible different systems have different foci... hard to tell, roshar is kinda weird.
  17. Yeah, but you generally don't say 'him to some #'; it doesn't sound right. Saying it restored 'to him some #' sounds better, which would just be 'he gets 200ish back when recovering'. Hard to tell; first draft without grammar or spelling checks. It's a poorly written sentence and can be fixed in two ways.
  18. For soulcasting at least it seems the gems are the focus (on phone, pretend I inserted the heat treating/impure color reddit ama 2013 quote here). If an impure colored gem acts like a bad alloy, that implies they serve the same purpose.
  19. My problem with the def is things like color and stormlight are required, but probably aren't focuses.
  20. I figure the physically draining rituals aren't necessarily a beating. I'm guessing it includes a lot of sleep deprivation combined with extreme temperatures (like staying next to a bonfire), some rioters and a bit of ritual cuts with those triangular shuriken thingies.
  21. Could be that odiummagic is unlocked by doing more and more horrific actions, and patricide is one way of unlocking the first level.
  22. Fortunately, nobles beat their kids enough to snap them. Atium mistings just don't realize they have any power - presumably the inquisitors would spike with atium and... I dunno, iron, to tell if there were mistborn among the atium mistings. And yeah Brandon is being close-lipped. It's a good question, but he isn't explaining the details. It apparently isn't the mists, and it's easier to hit the threshold of allomantic snapping...
  23. I believe it's supposed to be 'restoring to him some two hundred breaths', since 'restoring him to some two hundred Breaths' doesn't work grammatically. Hard to say, I've added a "?" on it. Good point on the cloak+strawman. It seems Vasher was at the second heightening in the first draft, and the costs were just scaled down. And we get a hard number of 25 for the straw figure, which means 25 for the cloak... that's less than I expected really, but we'll go with that. I guess Brandon figured that the price was way too high for the magical effects. Fortunately, most of the numbers are consistent between the revisions, since the Breath per Heightening wasn't fiddled with too much, and most of these things are scaled off that - people tend to use all their Breath in fights at once.
  24. The Lord Ruler knew how to force-snap people Or knew, at least, since sazed changed it
  25. The breakthroughs seem to take the form of learning the proper Command (and I guess Ichor-alcohol). Once you have a good command and know how to use it, basically everyone gets the same results. Hence why people tend to hide good Commands that they figure out
