Adolin will head down a much darker path than expected (Theory)
Observer replied to Necromancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
There is absolutely no reason to use spoiler tags in your post. You are in the WoR forum, and anybody in here who hasn't read WoR deserves to be spoiled. That being said, I disagree with you, at least for now. Brandon has mentioned that there are a number of orders that would be greatly pleased with Adolin's actions, so the odds of him attracting a spren are actually not all that bad. Instead of being annoyed with Kaladin and Shallan being radiants, he seemed to be fine with it. While he might be made to feel inferior to the Radiants around him, he doesn't seem like the jealous type from what we've seen of him. If anything, it would spur him to try and become a Radiant, or at the very least to improve himself. I highly doubt he would move to depose his father, who he's fought tooth and nail for over the course of several years now. Adolin loves his father, and I see no reason at all, even consuming jealousy, that would make him heartless and stupid enough to try invoking the contract. -
The Well has been on Scadrial for about as long as humanity has, and humans reached around the AoL tech level during the time before the Lord Ruler came to power. Before, people would hike up to the well, take the power and use it to fix problems in the world, chief among them being any influence Ruin had used during the last thousand years. Eventually, Rashek took the power and used it to empower himself permanently, and during the next cycle Vin used it to release Ruin.

Hoid uses colorful dusts to tell his story in Warbreaker, which is the medium he needs in order to Lightweave in Liar of Partinel.

Vasher would be a standard sword-using character, but his final smash would make him explode with color and draw Nightblood, at which point he would gain completely absurd attack power and damage capabilities.

Back when we called the Cryptics "Symbolheads" or "Changespren", my friend and I were looking at the Greetings from the future thread, and it jokingly says that the symbolheads were following Elhokar because they wanted his wallet. My friend asked me why they'd do it, since it wasn't related to change. I said taking a wallet would likely result in quite a bit of change...

I believe this problem came up back when Steelheart and the Steelhunt started up. The Admins, so far as I am aware, simply are not capable of stopping the thread titles from leaking out onto the main page, and I'm not about to tell new sharders to go away and leave until they've read WoR. The problem isn't the big "(SPOILERS) Sadeas dying" thing, it's that there's a spoiler in the title at all. Putting spoiler tags for WoR things inside the WoR forum is kind of asinine, and not really the problem here.

“I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.”
Observer replied to Mikanium's topic in Stormlight Archive
Please note that nowhere in here does it mention "I will kill people I like, if they don't do what's right". It simply states that Windrunners will protect everybody, so long as it's the right thing to do. This does not mean that they will kill the wrongdoers, not at all. They just won't waste time and energy defending somebody who is doing wrong. If another Windrunner feels that the bad guy is doing the right thing, they can help. The end result of this is, as I said before, everybody living to kill Voidbringers another day. This is where Kaladin went wrong. His job isn't to go and depose rulers and ruin monarchies. His job is to keep everything stable while somebody who is actually an expert in said field comes in and does their job. -
While it is indeed somewhat pointless to label anything under the WoR subforum as WoR spoilers, which is what I'll assume you're talking about exclusively, because spoiler markings matter everywhere else. It can be annoying to see them, but whether it's intentional or not, it does have a single useful feature. When some numbskull makes a thread with a super spoilery title, and doesn't realize it'll be visible from the front page, occasionally the enormous (SPOILERS) tag will hide the bad parts of the title from those who don't want to know. It's dumb, I know, but from time to time it has made a difference.

Hey, I'm an Elantrian now. Does that mean I can use Aons to make Waffles? Am I a Selian Waffle Cook?

I see a pattern to these puns, ever changing, but in predictable ways. I wish I could be a herald of better things to come, but I'm afraid my cryptic speech never allowed me any honor at all.

To whom is Elhokar going to give the throne? Dalinar? Too busy leading the KR, like he'd even take the throne if that weren't the case. Kaladin? Worst king ever as things currently stand, though as a Windrunner maybe later. There just isn't a person to give the throne to right now, and Elhokar is at least a decent person who has potential to grow into a better one. I don't like him much, but I think writing him off as a poison to Alethkar this early in the series is a major mistake. -
I always took a lack of fear to mean something closer to trust, though I agree the Szeth could probably still kill him, or at the very least seriously inconvenience him in combat. I disagree, however, that the Shardblade's fear is what matters. It's not about the weapon, it has always been the wielder. Shards can't move on their own when not being held, sentient or not, and it's always been about the person firing the guns or pressing the button, never those objects themselves. I don't think this would change. Now, if Syl were to unweaponize and stick his foot the floor and kill him that way somehow, then her intent would count. As things stand, however, I think it would be the Shardbearer who matters.

If this were a mystery novella of Brandon's, I'd say we shouldn't give up. All we need are one or two Leeds.

Yeah, you've kind of run out of powerful ranks. But hey, if you work really hard one day, you might actually get to be even better than a Feruchemist. You'll be able to cook waffles.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you can see something that anybody else would call a plot hole, but instead instantly decide that something fishy is going on. Basically, you get permanently locked into full Watsonian view. -
What happened to Sadeas? (Joke theories topic)
Observer replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
We could just let 682 in there to hold it off until the breach is settled. Ahem. I like to think that Sadeas was secretly a Forged flowerpot, and he forgot to bring his soulstamps to Urithuru in his haste. So he stumbles over to a window to try and carve one as quick as he can, but suddenly it runs out and he turns back into a pot, Oathbringer unbinding instantly. -
Knowing the emphasis on Justice, I can't help but wonder if the point of Skybreakers is to create the laws in the first place. It's completely stupid sounding now that I've actually typed it, but it almost feels like the Skybreaker's job is to punish those who need to be punished, exactly as much as is necessary, and not anything more or less. Like Nalan was originally in charge of giving people a set of rules to follow, and the Skybreakers got on board with upholding and interpreting the law between desolations, so they'd have something to work with when the returned.

Would you take a Shard? (General Spoilers)
Observer replied to Observer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm actually pretty sure that Odium + Preservation would keep people alive when they do not wish to live, and would make sure to Preserve pain and suffering for as long as they can last. Unlike Ruin, this combination would just enslave a whole planet and torment them for all eternity. -
How did he do THAT??? (Pure Conjecture, Spoilers for WoR)
Observer replied to GeoMancer's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yolen had Adonalsium sitting on it, at least long enough to develop an inherent magic system. From the Liar of Partinel chapters, we know that Hoid (Known as Midas in-story) was capable of Lightweaving, which allowed him to create images and sounds from his memory. The images were insubstantial, but also contained a little bit of sentience, capable of acting on their own nearby, though not capable of any form of originality. I'm assuming there were other magic systems on Yolen, at least 3. When Adonalsium broke, the pieces of it responsible for various magic systems left and went to other planets, bringing their pieces of magic with them. Lightweaving just happened to land on Roshar in one piece. -
Would you take a Shard? (General Spoilers)
Observer replied to Observer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I think that if I absolutely had to take a Shard, since I wouldn't otherwise, I'd probably become a very dark version of Cultivation. I've always had a Serket-style personality of forcing people nearby to grow through any method necessary, so it would be perfectly in line with my own Intents. Now I'd like to hark back to the original creation of this question. I was contemplating a series of obstacles and tests, the introduction of which would be landing on any Sanderson planet and trying to get a magic system without having any powers to begin with. We designed the tests to be really hard with breaths, very difficult with KR powers, and fairly challenging with Allomancy. However, at one point I wondered why I couldn't just grab a Shard or two while on Scadrial, which left me wondering whether or not it would be worth it. Even using a Shard, what we'd come up with would take at least a dozen years, and I got totally sidetracked wondering if it would ever be worth it to hold and keep a shard, either for as long as possible or until it fully corrupted you. Given those parameters, held forever or until you are gone, who would actually take one? -
What's an Originator again? I swear I should know this by now...
-
That would imply that he wasn't always giggling like a madman. What happens to Ialai now? Her husband is dead, so that's probably a blow to her rank, so I'm wondering exactly how much she'll lose to act is motivation.

What happened to Sadeas? (Joke theories topic)
Observer replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
When nobody was looking thanks to Urithuru, he quickly sought the Old Magic and asked to become part of a Nahel Bond. Oathbringer gained temporary sentience, and Sadeas became a spren for a bit as well. But the sword quickly cut off the bond after a brief celebration because Sadeas is the worst spren, reversing the boon and turning back into a sword and landing in a flowerpot. Sadeas himself became mindless, nothing more than a nearby passionspren. And there was much rejoicing. -

When you think the highground actually helps you think better too. -
I've wondered this for a long time, but we now have Word of Brandon on it all. There were plenty of other kinds of Shard weapons, Shardspears, shields, hammers, etc, but they were all based off of the Honorblades that Honor gave to the Heralds. When the spren died, they reverted to their most basic form, that of a blade. EDIT: As usual, ninja'd before I can get quotes. Nice job EMT.
