  1. I started with WoK for a patron at my library because he was looking for a large, well-written book with great characters, and he loved it. I don't know if I would start everyone off with that book, though, but it was my first intro to Brandon's work and it worked really well for me. The vibrant characters were what kept me hooked and so I never felt like the book really dragged. The size of WoK can be daunting, though. This patron has also finished WoR and is on the 2nd mistborn book now. I'm not sure how I'll tell him about the Cosmere, but I'm thinking of just giving him Arcanum Unbounded when the time comes and sending him on his way
  2. I agree, Kaladin is probably my favourite character of any book, and I can't wait to find out more about Szeth.
  3. I had a dream the other night that I was reading Oathbringer, and Kaladin, Dalinar, Adolin and Shallan were trekking through some sort of endless desert trying to escape the Everstorm. Eventually the storm caught up with them and Shallan and Adolin were killed, forcing Dalinar and Kaladin to keep fleeing on their own. I remember being shocked at this turn of events but also resigned, because I had heard somewhere that Oathbringer would have major character deaths. I told my dad about the dream the next day and wasn't comforted by his reply: "That sounds likely, from the way things were going earlier."
  4. When you leave your jewellery out during a thunderstorm, just in case.
  5. Welcome to the forums! Have an upvote. Also, good choice to avoid the cookies. Who's your favourite Sanderson character so far?
  6. Welcome! Have an upvote I'm a Ravenpuff and can't decide between Lightweaver or Truthwatcher, hence the name.
  7. Characters saying "Bah!" I've never heard anyone say "bah" in real life, but when a Sanderson character does it, it doesn't sound odd. Same here. I learned how to raise one eyebrow after jokingly imitating my friend who did it constantly, but I didn't know I was doing it properly until someone said "Whoa, you can actually do that?" Now I do it unconsciously instead of raising both eyebrows, but only the right one.
  8. When you realize you feel homesick...for Roshar.
  9. I think I'll pass on the cookies. I'd rather Preserve my sanity. I think my dad does have the general idea by now...at least, he enjoys playing "Where's Hoid?" with each new Cosmere book. And now he's even gotten my uncle involved. Sometimes I feel like my obsession with Sanderson books is a disease I'm slowly spreading to my family...
  10. Hey! So, I'm Truthweaver, a long-time lurker, and today I finally decided to be brave and join my first forum. (yay! ) My dad introduced me to Brandon's books with the Way of Kings two years ago and I've been hooked ever since. As per usual, my obsession quickly overtook my dad's casual interest and I've been trying to educate him on the Cosmere, slowly but surely. I've read everything Brandon I could find and I'm very eagerly awaiting the release of Oathbringer. It's great to finally be here! See you all around
