  1. Since her oaths are based on lies and children live a life filled with little lies she may have been able to connect with Pattern at an early age. The perception thing is kind of like the assassins of old who said "nothing is true everything is permitted." Pattern must have been sentient before Shallan's father locked him away and then he deteriorated. It was probably not until Shallan grew up and learned about shardblades did she put in her mind that it took 10 heartbeats. It is kind of like the Wheel of Time when channellers would lift their hands up to use magic when they did not really need to but the motion was ingrained in them.
  2. Yea, she emerges with burnt clothes and I think Wit mentions she has some kind of satchel she made herself. I imagine she had to overcome some kind of crucible there. Maybe her progression can only happen in Shadesmar and she has to impress the spren.
  3. The different types of Greatshells are definitely important. Shallan seemed to connect the type in the water (santhid?) with a chasmfiend she sees by the arrow shaped spren around them. Maybe these arrow shaped spren are what let the chamfiends move so surprisingly fast for something so big. I am just waiting for the Everstorm to roll around and turn them all into different voidbringers muahahahaha
  4. We only know that he is with a character from the cosmere book Elantris looking for Hoid. So we know Demoux worldhops but WoK takes place after Mistborn so Tindwyl can't wear the patch of a bridge crew that did not exist yet.
  5. My personal theory is that the 16 knew each other and for some reason Rayse who was described as already being a jerk purposely splintered Adonalsium and took the most powerful piece for himself. The others picked up the remaining shards to keep the balance of divine influence. The reply to Hoid's letter is from someone who feels like they have messed up the world enough as it is. Perhaps it is kind of like the Wheel of Time
  6. This is my exact experience. Waiting and waiting for GRRM to put out another book and in the meantime I read like 50 books that were better. It may be the only time that the show/movie is better than the book. Mistborn blew me away with worldbuilding. tWoK I did not give enough respect to and in the reread I fully realize how dumb I was to not see it for the crazy crazy crazy epic fantasy that it is. Eventually I stumbled upon the Death Gate Cycle which kind of blew me away and is cosmereish. It is not without its flaws but it has a universe sized fantasy plot... Interstellar meets Lord of the Rings? Did that make sense? Check it out if you have nothing to read.
  7. The full quote about benevolence refers to Elsecallers being benevolent so far as helping other Radiant orders communicate with the realm of spren. (I only know cause I recently re-read this part) Via the in book Words of Radiance - Ch. 53 -Perfection: “As to the other orders that were inferior in this visiting of the far realm of spren, the Elsecallers were prodigiously benevolent, allowing others as auxiliary to their visits and interactions; though they did never relinquish their place as prime liaisons with the great ones of the spren; and the Lightweavers and Willshapers both also had an affinity to the same, though neither were the true masters of that realm.” So the Elsecallers are benevolent by being spren ambassadors. Also in regards to Jasnah's power we know nothing of her spren and according to the above quote Elsecallers are the "prime liason with the great ones of the spren". I do find it weird that Jasnah does not ask Shallan what ideal she is on unless she already knew that each order was vastly different in the way they progressed.
  8. Would Syl intuitively know? I think she would find it dishonorable don't you? She's also a pretty good distraction.
  9. Why would you say that? In real life bullet drop is an accepted reality for any firearm. See below. Words bolded because... well gravity hands just sounds perfect in this situation =) Taken from https://canadianshooter.wordpress.com/2-sight-alignment-with-pistols/ Gravity 100% affects bullets in real life and a reverse lashing increases gravity so that should not be a problem. If you are arguing the speed of a bullet is too fast for Kaladain I also disagree. If a Lurcher with no additional powers has enough time to pull a bullet toward an object I think Kaladin has enough time to reverse lash it.
  10. The first time Szeth sees Kaladin surgebind he says something like "No, its impossible! They lied to me!" We know the Shin have the herald's blades that were left behind. If they believed the desolations were truly over and Szeth showed signs of surgebinding the Shin may have seen him as some kind of abomination. Those that refer to him always mention that he was some kind of disgusting failure to the Shin. I am thinking that Szeth's fate is the result of some flaw in the Shin's beliefs and they put him on the path he is walking thinking that he was truthless when they have based their whole culture on lies. Just seems like a nice Sanderson arc for the most truthful people.
  11. Isn't the second book in Warbreaker tentatively titled "Nightblood"? Kind of like Demoux in Mistborn... who never had a PoV(?)... then worldhopped. Ishikk might know more than he is letting on. With Brandon you never know!
  12. The funny thing is I have read like 50 fantasy books all because Game of Thrones is taking forever. I read the Wheel of Time and was like wow GoT is not that good. Read Sanderson and that only strengthened my contempt! I have read Staveyl(Emperor's blades trilogy), Anthony Ryan (Bloodsong trilogy), Rothfuss(name of the wind trilogy) and Django Wexler (this is a flintlock fantasy, magic and guns) which are all pretty entertaining. Wheel of Time is also highly recommended but very very long. The others I listed above are shorter. Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles seems to be the one that is most universally praised. Sanderson is the best world builder/magic system creator there is. If you are deciated go for Wheel of Time but at the rate Brandon publishes books you may find yourself setting them aside for his newest one. So try one of the shorter trilogies Ilsited if that will be a problem for you.
  13. Just nitpicking but you should give him an eyepatch, fox medallion and the tip of his tail should be an Asharendai. Very cool
  14. Assuming Kaladin can dispatch Wayne quickly (stick him to a wall) I think he would beat Wax as well. Being able to pull bullets to a shield of some kind (kind of like a lurcher) would be very useful. The hand to hand combat and warrior experience is what tilts the scales in Kaladins direction for me. While Wax does have great fighting instincts Kaladin can see the battlefield very clearly in all of his fights even when at a huge disadvantage.
  15. In regards to the power of Division: Words of Radiance Chapter 36 "A New Woman" excerpt: What we can infer from this quote is that the Releasers division power is so destructive that the common folk see it as similar to the destruction wrought by Voidbringers. So much so that the common view is that there is "little difference between these two". Perhaps it has to do with the cognitive, spiritual and physical realm connection being split. Maybe it is the same affect that a shardblade has on a human body severing/burning its soul from its physical host thereby "releasing" the soul from the body through fire. This power of division when seen by the common folk could have inspired the negative reputation because it was seen as demonic voidbringer type activity. It is weird that in a time of respect for Radiants that the common folk would see one Order as close to "voidbringers" unless the powers they wielded were so destructively similar. Hence why they were so upset by being associated with voidbringers because they are actually the good guys fighting fire with fire.
  16. To my knowledge Metalminds cannot be used by multiple people. Sazed mentions he had to listen to a historian and store the stories in his own metalminds in mistborn. Also vin tries to burn one of sazeds metal minds unsuccessfully and he says something regarding metalminds only being used by the person who filled it.
  17. Being disgusted by the Thrill should not rule Adolin out as the Thrill's source is one of the evil voidbringer gods i think. Also dropping his sword shouldnt disqualify him either. Even Dalinar shows weakness when confronted by his revulsion. Weakness can equal strength. Dalinar and Adolin are strong enough to realize what they are doing is wrong. Adolin is brave because being loyal to dalinar took bravery. How many other lighteyes would have betrayed their father and been cheered for it by the other high princes? The easy way would be to abandon his father. Also his CALLING is dueling. He dedicated his life to It basically. When it comes to dealing with Sadeas he uses force through duels and then through removing Sadeas with violence. He doesnt shy away when he sees Eshonai on a plateau run screaming "FIGHT ME". This is Sanderson we are talking about i doubt bravery will be a face value charging the biggest guy = bravery. Especially considering the first ideals discussion of strength and weakness. Either way Adolin has a lot of growth before he gets powers i think Another possible canidate could be Moash. I am not saying he is anywhere near manifesing his powers but he was focused on killing as a solution to his problems. That sounds very dustbringer to me as their problemsolving skillset will probly revolve around destroying for the better good.
  18. I recommend Mistborn the most because to me it is such an amazing and completely satisfying series. I mean by the end you know the whole story from creation until the end of the story arc and beyond. The level of worldbuilding and the completely unique magic system pulls you in pretty much immediately and the story's ocean's eleven meets xmen beginning plot is really engaging. My friends refuse to read and I tried for the longest time to push the Wheel of Time on them. I eventually gave up and tried for Mistborn haha. I have also sat down and told the entire story arc of Kaladin in the Way of Kings and the entire Mistborn plot when drunk. My friends were blown away by the thought put into the magic system and overall story but their response was, "thats so cool you should make a youtube channel where you explain books that people don't want to read...". I stared at them blankly and wept
  19. In Way of Kings, Jasnah kills those robbers by ranged soulcasting lightning and fire. She may have been touching them directly in Shadesmar though? Also when Szeth changes the direction of gravity and falls in a direction is he lashing a distant point he wants to travel to? I forget how that works. I believe Szeth mentions at one point that he does not wear shardplate because it interferes with his lashings. Shardplate keeping in leaking stormlight would be a really cool idea! Using others stormlight might be like feruchemy you can only use what you stored. I know for a fact in Way of Kings, Kaladin is able to incompletely take back some stormlight that he put into a wall. Perhaps Stormlight will function like breath in Warbreaker and only can be taken from another with permission.
  20. The not screaming is a good point but maybe it has to do with the nature of armor vs. swords? Spren that made swords are tortured by the fact they still kill but the armor type sticks around to protect? Every shardplate fits the wearer perfectly like an organism wrapping around them. In regards to gemhearts could shardplate be a giant gemheart that traps a spren kind of like the one the Parshendi used? Shard is a unique substance only coming from spren in the form of plate/sword. The armor is fed by stormlight and repairs like a living organism so I am not sure how a gemheart would come into play (you can't soulcast into shard material). Unless the investiture of the surgebinder is tapped into to create the scales somehow. I was thinking two would make sense because each order has two traits. Syl could be attracted by the protecting trait and a future spren will be attracted by his leadership qualities but this is probably wrong on my part. I felt like having two traits would create a better character arc as they progress through the five ideals with one trait tempering the other. I was just curious about the fact that there is two shard type pieces of equipment but only one has their origin explained. Thank you for being gentle with my first post.
  21. Hmm I thought division meant to divide your cells on an atomic level kind of like Dr. Manhattan touch and explode type power. I pictured it as an immensely powerful surge that would be balanced by high stormlight cost. But its all guesswork at this point.
  22. So in one of Dalinar's visions in Way of Kings he sees Radiants who have helmets on and then all of the sudden do not. It seems like a silly thing to be an effect of the vision as there are no other weird discrepancies and Brandon is not one to add details for no reason. Also the fact that after the battle of the Tower where Dalinar is betrayed by Sadeas he loses his shardplate's gauntlet. He then says that the Parshendi could hold that gauntlet and regrow it into a full suit if Dalinar did not have the rest of the shardplate. He borrows Adolin's gauntlet and says his shardplate will regenerate the hand piece with stormlight and time. So if shardplate regenerates like some kind of organic coral type thing could modern shardplate also be made of dead spren stimulated by stormlight? Are we seeing the Radiants in Dalinar's vision drop their visor mentally with a thought? If shardplate is made of spren is it the same spren as the blade or a different one that becomes the armor once they reach the 5th ideal or something like that? WILL KALADIN BOND A damnation GLORY SPREN FOR THE SHINIEST ARMOR AWARD ALREADY!!! Sorry... got carried away. Interested to hear your thoughts.
  23. {{SPOILERS BELOW - WoK & WoR}} Hello, this will be my first post here after lurking on theories for a long time. Dustbringer hints in the books: (I read on my iphone so page numbers won't help sorry) I believe we have actually seen a Releaser in one of Dalinar's visions. The one in Words of Radiance where he sees a Radiant glowing red walking through water effortlessly (guessing abrasion assisted and shardplate glows the color of your order - windrunners and stonewards were described as glowing blue and amber in way of kings). In Way of Kings, Jasnah when speaking of the 10 orders mentions that one surge was capable of burning stone with a touch. Possible spren to be bonded: Flamespren (obvious flame/burning connection) Painspren (pain is necessary.. pain lets the body know to fight and resist... pain in a positive narrative maybe) Gloryspren (step 1: slide in, step 2: BURN step 3: glory?) Surge potential in battle: I am guessing that Edgedancers use their abrasion and regrowth to be the combat medics sliding around the battlefield healing the wounded while using their shards when they can be useful. The Releasers are most likely the guys who slide in and take down the Thunderclasts made of stone or other high value targets. It would be really cool if they slid in and grabbed a Thunderclast increasing the friction on their hand so they not lose their grip while burning the enemy from existence. Possible Oaths: I believe the name "Releasors" is going to be related to "releasing" the void spren from whatever creatures they make or perhaps just simply releasing the soul from the body. So something related to removing the evil parasite from the sacred stones. Releasor Canidates: I agree with most people who say Adolin or Rysn. Adolin is brave and obedient as displayed by his reluctance to depose his father even though he thirsts for battles. He also honors the Codes before he finds out Dalinars visions are real even though his Calling is dueling. He allows himself to be muzzled by his fathers honor and is obviously brave... although maybe he will need to have a out of shardplate experience to be considered truly brave. Rysn shows obvious bravery (aka boldness) when confronting the huge spren "god".
