  1. if the above convo has any true merit about a workforce... what if someone came to you and said "hey, i know your life here sucks... come with me- i'll have you work half as hard, and you'll be able to eat twice as much. oh- you want jobs for your family members? sure thing! i'll even pay you!" just the cosmere's version of illegal immigrants taking jobs for much less pay...
  2. Like, how are they able to find out what quarry rock came from, or- that someone locked in this room did this instead of this... I imagine a good "educated guess" could help with a lot of it, and maybe a little trial and error, but- what about items that they've never come across before?
  3. I definitely like the way that this forum's answers and conversation has grown immensely more mature from page to page ;-) I think i read only one other person mentioning that Warbreaker would also make a good movie- It's magic system is very visual, and all sorts of things could "show" well. I'm also on the cautious bandwagon due to what has been repeatedly said about book to movie adaptations. what helped me explain things like the Harry Potter series- is that by itself to those who had never read any of the books, the movies did a good job telling a story while including as much as possible of the source material- towards the end, I saw the movies as more "companions" to the book- where the film was able to expand on a lot of aspects of the book... I personally enjoy the movies and books themselves. On another hand one that i didn't see mentioned here book to movie adaptation, was "Jumper". I know a lot of people didn't really care much for Hayden's acting, but- as far as the movie goes, i liked it a lot- so much so, that I ended up reading all of the jumper-series books by Steven Gould. (4-5 at last count? its been a little while). As far as source material from books to movie- very little was actually there. the basic premise was there as in there was a dude named David, he could teleport, and people were after him. Aside from that, the movie went on a completely different tangent than the books. Having watched the film first, then read the books later- i think i liked the entire aspect a lot more. For me, it wasn't necessarily a matter of "the movie didn't follow the book at all", but more a matter of "a different story" in a "world" that i enjoyed. instead of getting one book to one movie, i got an additional separate story out of it all too. For me, the two are near separate, but related enough that i can imagine it being just an alternate story in the same world that i enjoy. Now regarding Brandon's works- obviously I'm a fan of the books enough to troll these forums on a near daily basis... lurking in the background not ever really speaking up too much, but there anyway... so i really like the idea of a movie- even if it means getting some of the main points correct, and still being a really good movie. it could just be another "story" or a different "telling" of the same story. i think it helps knowing that Brandon'll be a producer and as Argent said before about how Brandon not some cash-seeking-new-writer just trying to make a quick buck... helps a lot. knowing his hand'll be in it helps me think that even if for cinematic purposes the story is only 20-30% true to the source stories, but they're *quality movies*, i'll win anyway. i get to get more of the cosmere in a different story. just my $.02
  4. totally raising the dead of this topic- but... i'm re-re-reading Warbreaker, and got to the part where they mentioned about the Tears only being able to grow in T'Telir, even if taken elsewhere.... Has it been speculated that the flowers are to Endowment's shardholder Edgli, as the Atium Geodes are to Ruin's shardholder Ati... being the "physical manifestation of the god's body"? As mentioned here, maybe with the color being the investiture used? I've searched for the past couple days in my downtime in the Warbreaker forum about it... I saw mention of the possibility of Edgli's Perpendicularity in close proximity- perhaps somewhere in T'Telir, hidden? Thanks all!
  5. right- but... thats the only anything that i've seen about a "plot" from TLR to give up the FE.... i can't find anything else. where did said questioner get the idea that there was a plot in the first place?
  6. I think some of the things that I pay attention to whenever reading a new BS book, is how the cultures beliefs shape the curse words used by those that believe what they do. Oftentimes I've wondered what sort of expletives and sayings we in our world would use if the curses we used were based on our worlds major religions using Brandonized style of cursing.
  7. I know this is a slightly older thread- but, I can't seem to find anything regarding his "plan to give up the FE"... what is the prevailing theory regarding this? Did I totally miss something while reading? what was written in the book @ the signing? Thanks all!
  8. Just falling through the rabbit hole of the 17th shard, the interview database, and the coppermind... and I got to thinking- who exactly would be the best? Immediately, my thoughts were of Gavilar and Adolin, but- knowing that Adolin at least was trained by Vasher, who was not as good as Denth, who was better than Arsteel.... I'm thinking Denth? Thankfully due to the various types of magic, swordsmanship is sometimes a secondary skill, it's not world changing, but- just a thought. Anyone else I'm missing?
  9. well boo... I never came across that in any of the forums, so i thought it wasn't too much of a stretch considering that real life people have photographic memory. oh well- i'll just need to go to more signings to not get so flustered :-)
  10. So- I had a list of questions that I wanted to ask- but... I surprisingly fangirled when I got up to Brandon and forgot most of what I was going to ask. two of the questions I did manage to ask were: Q: Is Shallan's photographic memory due to her bond with Pattern? before he answered- he stumbled almost as if he were to say "no", or that it didnt directly want to say that it was directly from Pattern- but then (as closely as I could write down immediately after i stepped away from the table) he replied: A: "Shallan's memory has a supernatural component" The other question I asked wasn't as helpful, but- it was regarding how "closed" the cosmere would be when he was done with his 30-something books. His answer- nowhere near verbatim, was something along the lines of: "Let's let me finish this first, not sure if I want to answer that yet"
  11. tentatively flying to the portland signing- long time fan, but living in AK keeps us a little secluded at times... haven't been to a signing because of it, and not sure what the standard order of events is. I've been a watcher on the shard for a while, and have been down the rabbit hole that is the coppermind more times than i can count- but- does he have Q&A at each site? does he just sit there then have you go through the lines? whats a standard schedule like? Thanks!
