Lightweaving Theory (involves Hemalurgy)
VindicationKnight replied to WayneSpren's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There are similarities given that all Investiture magics are based on the same principals, but the exact details vary, Aon Dor Illusions have less of a spiritual component than the Rosharan variant, which is closer to the original Yoleish method according to the WoR Ars Acarnum. -
On a similar note, do we know if Plates ability to ignore lighting is down to it being artificial magic blocked by Plate's innate magic resistance or is it the same form of cushioning? Adolin's Plate not only protected him from the bolt, it also shielded his sense, which is a pretty intelligent thing for it to do as an automatic feature.

What I'm curious to know is, does a similar effect happen when tapping other senses? -
I concur that she's non-neurotypical. However, one thing you mention brings up an interesting point. At the Ostlin wedding, Steris speaks of the world they live in, and how she makes of herself someone who can survive there. Does that contradict "wanting things organized to her standard"? I acknowledge that one can exhibit several traits of OCPD without having to do it all, but I honestly don't know if this is a point that allows wiggle room or not. As someone who actually suffers from OCD (similar but not the same obviously ) I pretty much agree with all of these, OCD and OCPD exist on a spectrum and everybody has some of the traits, it becomes a disorder once it starts having a measurably negative effect on your life, which does not require all the symptoms, I'm possibly the least organized person ever and tend to act as if both time and schedules were things that happen to other people for instance. Steris may have some of the symptoms a little more strongly than most but so far I don't think it's been shown to be a severer issue in her life. I'm always wary of self diagnosis or diagnosing people based on relatively little information so for now I think we really can't define her one way or another.

It's also more comfortable than it should be isn't it?
-
I'll have to check but I'm fairly sure that characters within the book note that with tiny variations, Thugs get the same amount of power from their pewter. The boost they receive should be nearly identical (with small differences for the power of the Allomancer in question.)
-
It's also possible Ham is just a big eater. That does happen He spends a lot of time as a solider hiding his pewter doing a lot of physical activity. His muscles, and appetite, seem entirely normal to me.

The Lord Ruler also knew more than anyone else and was obviously the first one to introduce people to Allomancy on a large scale. It's likely the majority of the common metals were introduced by him, and that he might have 'guided' development of metallurgy towards his own ends, encouraging developments he liked and burying the secrets of metals he wanted left alone. One of the most knowledgeable Allomantic scholars we saw from the Final Empire was Yomen who knew a bunch about the significance of 16 and the existence of Seers. Given how close Allomancy and Ministry doctrine were linked I suspect most Allomantic research took place under the scrutiny of the Ministry, and by extension, the Lord Ruler.

Given Adolin took a lighting bolt to the face and wasn't deafened or blinded even temporarily Shardplate has to be protecting it's user from negative side effects of an attack, rather than merely being durable in itself. It seems to cushion it's user from all sorts of such side effects and even the Alethi don't know how far that goes.

Does Kaladin have a choice to do the wrong thing?
VindicationKnight replied to moptop's topic in Stormlight Archive
My personal understanding, was that the Radiant's personal interpretation of their Oath's did matter, but that Kaladin knew that what he was doing was wrong regardless of how he tried to reframe the issue. You can do the wrong thing if you honestly belive it is in keeping with your oaths but you can't lie to the Nahel Bond or yourself, no rules lawyering here. Supporting evidence from Dalinar's visions, when it was shown that conflict between Radiant's could occur despite the best intentions, and from Kaladins conversations with Syl when she questioned whether he truly wanted to kill A because it was the right thing to do or out of vengeance. -

Both really, sorry should have made that clearer. -
Almost identical to the crushed skulls of our enemies huh? I NEED to speak to your human resources department!

I do enjoy the human element of science... What's your research budget like? Plenty of money for the best tools? New hammers none of these splintery old mallets like we used back in old country? I can see a deal being made here I'll check it out

Edited 1. Can Lift increase or decrease friction on other objects.? 2. If yes could she use this offensively? 3. How much control does the Stormfather have over the highstorms? 4. Is Shardplate immune/resistant to regular lighting or just that of stormform? 5. Did Elend or Vin ever consider parenthood, or was that never a priority for them? 6. What is the natural Koloss lifespan and how common is it for them to reach that? 7. To what extent could Shardplate resist a bullet? 8. Do kandra eventually die of old age and if so what is their lifespan like? -
You can take me alive but you'll never kill the resistance!

The Knights of Awkward? Where do I sign up? I allready ate the cookies though, not to worry who doesn't enjoy the taste of crunchy metal coated soul fragments? They're incredibly nutritious, though they burn a little on the way down. Good choices, from Stormlight my favorite is currently Dalinar, with Shallan hot on his heels For the Cosmere as a whole it's obviously Vin, cause Vin.
-
Stormlight is a popular second choice it seems, do you have a favorite character? Mine is probably fairly obvious given my username.

How would a blast from Aon Daa affect a person wearing Shardplate? Would it simply be ineffective as it was against Brother Dilaf's Dakhor stuff or would it actually deal damage? I don't know if this one is officially unanswered but I asked this one to Sanderson on reddit and received the answer (also some other questions.) Is it okay to post them here or should I put them somewhere else? -
Is the Cosmere a universe or a galaxy?
VindicationKnight replied to kroen's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Is the question is does the term Cosmere refer to the galaxy or the universe? Or is it, is the setting of the Cosmere just a single galaxy or are other galaxies etc. beyond it's 'borders'? Because in the later I'm fairly sure Sanderson's on record saying that the physics of the Cosmere are fundamentally the same as ours with the addition of Realmatics, which would be pretty impossible if said universe was the size of a single dwarf galaxy. -
Thank you Ohhh tough question, I think Way of Kings or Words of Radiance are his best individual books, but that The Final Empire and The Hero of Ages had the most impact on me, especially as part of a trilogy. Yourself?

Fullmetal Alchemist vs the Cosmere
VindicationKnight replied to Quiver's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I honestly think they're pretty even for the most part, at least in raw power, when it comes to specific counters that's a different matter, Ed would be screwed against Vin not because she's hugely more powerful but because of his automail, on the other hand she doesn't have the raw firepower to kill a Homunculi in any reasonable span of time. In close quarters Ed would have the advantage, he may not have pewter but people in Amestris pull of physical feats like smashing stone with their bare hands often enough that you wouldn't know it. That said most of the 'good guys' would have a lot in common, a shared scholarly interest in science based magic systems, a three part body-mind-soul model of the universe, themes of godhood, power derived form mysterious beings named after concepts like Preservation, Honor or...Truth? It almost feels like Amestris is already in the Cosmere. *crossover planning intensifies* Better yet, combine Soulcasting and Alchemy, one to transmute the material, the other the shape. Though actually they'd probably get on quite well past the initial culture shock, they have some fairly similar views on religion, morality and scholarship. -
Is there anyone there? Hi I'm new obviously, and called VindicationKnight, even more obviously, I've lurked before but only signed up today so I like to think I'm reasonably up to date on the site and the Cosmere in general. Go gentle on me, I bruise easy.
