Duel to the Death: Adolin vs TLR vs Sadeas...
VindicationKnight replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm sorry but can mere mortals compare with swagger this fine? Yeah. That's what I thought. -
the most useless uses for useful powers

Using reanimated vermin to be a pest is a very Lightsong inspired tradition. -
So...who warned you? Everything they said was a lie. A filthy lie. Edit: Out of interest why the toothpaste question?
-
Honestly the Full Lashing is extremely useful, it's just not as dramatic. There are all sorts of combat uses for bonding objects together especially since it's his only real ranged power and he can affect a large area. Szeth uses it often compared to Kaladin who's relatively inexperienced with it. I also personally suspect the 'shockwave' power is linked to Adhesion, but we'll probably have to wait for more evidence to say for certain.
-
Or just slashes out with his Shardblade to begin with. Or sprays the ground with a Full Lashing. Or Lashes up and down into their midst and does that shockwave trick he's used before. Or moves between them into their midst dodging or healing the initial injuries whilst he Lashes them in every direction besides down. Or...I could go on.

I prefer to think of it as 'well-rounded' reasoning. -
What command would you give nightblood

Nalthis? What Nalthis? I don't remember there being any planet here, you must be mistaken' *hides smoking wreckage behind the sun* -
A planet buster would probably destroy his metalminds, Shardblade is more questionable it's true.
-
True, but it would be good enough for most immortals less than Hoid. Forging would be a bit impractical as a combat move, but it would be a useful way to dispose of powerful criminals whilst still getting some use out of them, if you have the time to do so and aren't concerned by the ethical issues.

If we can use methods from other fiction as well as in universe... Balefire or a DeMat gun, erase em from history. Turn them into a Philosopher's Stone (FMA), waste not want not you can always find a use for a perpetually regenerating soul after all. Total disintegration should take most forms of immortality that we know of. Nightblood, always Nightblood. In a similar vein, Stormbringer, Mournblade or Anomander Rake's Dragnipur. Shardblade if you land a killing blow? Blow up the planet, it's the only way to be sure. Astarael the Sorrowful from the Old Kingdom Trilogy: when rung properly, sends all its auditors into death- the ringer included.[1] Lirael holds this bell in the second binding. (On a side note I'd recommend Garth Nix to any Sanderson fan.) Lord English. Because there is no kill like overkill. Anything strong enough to totally wipe your memory/Cognitive presence has effectively 'killed' the immortal in question. Trap them in a inescapable time loop a'la Grey Boy or a super decelerated time bubble 'freezing them' beyond recovery. Forge them into being your loyal slave, effectively destroying the original personality. And probably a whole bunch more.

I'll have you know that pest control is a time honored tradition! I have a family to support here! Besides, I'm just following the example of the great god Lightsong the Bold (praise be his name), are you saying that Lightsong the Bold (praise be his name) was a dishonest god? You heathen! -
Well they are shaped by human perception, and humans do tend to personify things with familiar traits so in a way it makes a certain sense...

Szeth vs the Lord Ruler in Luthadel
VindicationKnight replied to the_archduke's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Assuming Rashek is doing anything to defend himself, he's to fast and to precog-ey for Szeth to hit, and he can kill Szeth even by slapping him so long as he does so to the head. It's also not impossible he could Pull on his blade depending on how amped his Allomancy gets, though I wouldn't bet his life on it. Szeth's chances of a stealth attack are also low, he's to bright and glowey and he lacks any particular subtlety, he never had much need for it. Whilst Rashek didn't go all out against Vin she was a Mistborn, something he knew wasn't a threat to him (without Shard help anyway), with Szeth it's immediately obvious that something is off about him and his Blade so I doubt that he's going to be careless. -
It's so simple...yet...so elegant. *tears up* It's beautiful.
-
Might still be useful as a long range weapon against Shardplate. Plus a headshot or spine hit would still kill. I agree that it's tactical uses are fairly limited though.

Using Awakening to wield other magics!
VindicationKnight replied to yurisses's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He has tried and failed so far so it's not that he doesn't bother. He's also not remotely as powerful as the Lord Ruler, even in the context of Nalthis. Given his personality, and the local issues about to go down, I also firmly doubt he's on Roshar for a vacation. -

Bradley with a Shardblade... -
Yes I know it's not the same as with IVF, but the actual growth and development of the child is the same process, and as far as we know there's no reason sDNA would stick to one set of genetic info after sperating from the body (sperm, egg etc) but not another. My main reason is basically because we know cloning works in real life, and the Cosmere tends to work on 'like real life till proven otherwise' so there's no reason that Cosmere clones would be lifeless shells.
-
Yes but with Miles you're looking at cell replication, actual cloning is a different biological process, the same one that happens in the womb, the differnece between mitosis and meosis I think, though I'm not a biologist. My point is it's the same biological process for standard sDNA inheritance, though only difference is that it takes place in a petri dish and not in a bedroom.
-
Do we know that's where it comes from? In any case for a SCIENCE clone you still have a biological parent providing genetic material, why wouldn't the sDNA come from them in this case?

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
VindicationKnight replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The bigass sword is apparently the default, based on the Honorblades, so I suspect she'd revert to that. No proof though.
