Are you so sure? Remember how the Ire are pumping investiture in from somewhere? The Reod may have been an (accidental) side-effect of their meddling. That said, you are probably right! :-p

Just like the Reckoners. :-p

Pun intended, right? ;-)

Thanks Kurk, I got into the avalanche, and sometimes I miss things at the end of Brandon's books because I'm just reading so fast.

Things that didn't surprise me: The idea of a snapshot inside a snapshot. The girl who gave the phone-number being from the "real" world. Things that did surprise me: That I was right it was a snapshot inside a snapshot. I was hoping the characters would be real after all, enough to ignore my gut feeling. That the big reveal at the end is snapshots really are not real. That seriously bothered me. But I suppose it might be even worse if they were real... That Davis was planning a murder. Things I still have questions about: Was it ever explained why that one group of victims was poisoned?

What's the chance that the IRE caused the Reod?

Yup, pretty sad world if you believe that. I like to think otherwise.

I liked the ending because it showed that sacrifice can actually cost something. Vin and Elend were willing to give up their lives to do what was right. And then they did so. Who says that they aren't ruling together, or having kids, on the other side? Existence doesn't have to end with physical death.

Beginning or The End Challenge
Lightning replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Creator's Corner
Dave grabbed the duck and ran, fully aware that the fate of the world now rested on his shoulders. "Why would anyone create a bio-genetic destabilizer?" he thought to himself, as the duck started to mutate. It slowly grew smaller and cuter, with big eyes like you see in the movies. "Oh, look at that cute duck!" someone cried as Dave ran passed. But he didn't have time to describe the horror -- the doom -- this duck represented. For, given enough time, the bio-gel would spread to other organisms. Society, and the human race, would be destroyed. He gave a brief glance at the duck, but that was a mistake. It was even cuter now, with fluffy white feathers and a disproportionately large bill. He just wanted to stop and pet the freakishly beautiful animal, but his better judgement prevailed. "Must get this duck to an incinerator..." Dave thought wildly, running even faster now. "There!" he thought wildly, seeing a local Mongolian grill restaurant, "They must have a fire inside." He barely paused to swing the door open, and hurriedly threw the duck onto the open grill. He cried as the cute little ducky was cooked alive. "What have I done?" Dave sobbed, wearily backing away. The local cook looked on in shock. A policeman who had seen the entire incident quickly handcuffed Dave and led him away thinking "How could a man be so heartless and cruel to animals?" Not wanting the food to go unused, the cook quickly chopped up the duck, added some noodles, a heaping spoonful of soy sauce, then threw the entire batch back on the fire. Soon, it was fried to perfection. "Delicious" the cook thought, as small tears ran out of his slightly over-sized eyes. ---------------------------------------------- "I wish I owned a pet dinosaur," Sam thought glumly, looking out enviously at his next-door neighbor's yard. -

Ookla the Orange, My impression of Brandon's answer to "will we see time travel" was not a confirmation, but a clever non-answer. He only said nobody has figured it out yet, which doesn't necessarily imply that it can be figured out. -

That's so cool! At these signings, I'm always the guy with a BYU math shirt and a container of magic cards. -

Haven't we seen hemalurgy on other planets because there is a kandra world-hopper? That's what came to my mind when I heard his answer that it is non-obvious. I asked three questions. First, I asked the question above about if there is a power loss when a feruchemist switches powers from one metal-mind to another. Brandon said (paraphrasing) the power does have to enter the person, and there is a very little power loss. Less than we'd probably think. Second, I asked if Rust is a separate person than Ruin. I may have asked this question before, but it popped in my head. He said good theory, but NO. Third, my written question was "How will the everstorm affect Vasher?" He wrote: "Vasher will probably just hide, but it signals something bad for him..." Then he said out loud (paraphrasing) that we will find out what this means in a LONG time. I should have pressed him for more information, but I was just SO excited to have my oldest girls with me and to have them meet him. My impression from this was that we'd see very little of Vasher in the rest of the front 5 Stormlight Archive. My oldest daughter, Tori, was the one with the Pattern costume. She left feeling SO happy to have met Brandon. -

It appears we are meeting in room 3228 in the Wilk. Normally they don't have a Magic game, but I'm bringing a couple of my commander decks, and will play with anyone that wants to. -
I agree with Landis. I thought it was implied that those who went to the physical realm were killed (probably by the animals which live near the perpendicularity--which we can guess is the pool at the top of the mountain, since that's where the animals get their powers).

So can a feruchemist be wearing two different metalminds for the same attribute, and move the charge from one to the other? Is that your question? [I'd guess the answer is yes.] -

That might be a better question after people have had time to read the new book; maybe for the other signings. -
Does anyone know if we'll have numbered copies of the book, as usual? Also, I'm willing to ask Brandon one of your questions. Just post on this thread and I'll pick one that sounds interesting. (Last time I asked about what Nightblood was made from.) Edited to add: I'll probably do a game of Magic before the signing as usual. (Commander format.)

Whether or not you are right that investiture is necessary to persist for any amount of time after death, this is irrelevant in Ashravan's case since, as I mentioned, he never actually died. He had a head wound, which was healed, with unfortunate side affects.

Here are some reasons why I believe that the returned are the same souls. 1. When someone dies, their soul does not immediately go beyond. We have many, many examples. 2. The returned come back to their bodies quite soon after death. Lightsong's body was pulled out of the ocean, and then he came back. 3. The returned have memories of being given the opportunity to return, or to pass on. 4. They are called the returned. ;-) 5. And here is my theory about their memories: To change subjects: With respect to Ashravan, I don't think his soul ever left, because I don't think he ever died. His body was healed before that happened. However, in the process of healing his wounds, his physical mind was made blank. It would be like being in a medically-induced coma. You are not conscious, but you are not dead, and your spirit has not left. You can be brought out of the coma without needing a new soul. Similarly, Ashravan could be brought back to consciousness if they had the technology to return his brain to its previous state. The best they could do was forge it to a state quite similar to its previous state.

I'd draw a bunch of storm clouds, which could shoot their own lines of vigor! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! If that wouldn't work, I'd draw Godzilla. He's pretty cool. Or maybe Trogdor. Burninate those peasants and knights!

Nice catch about D'If! Note that since France doesn't exist, neither could the Chateau D'If. Another reason to suspect that he wasn't a true Smedry.
