Brandon and Book News

It's the last portion of Part One of Oathbringer on Tor.com right now, Chapters 31-32. Sure, it's just two chapters. I'm sure nothing important happens in them or anything... ;) Go discuss them in our discussion thread. If you missed a chapter set, you can find them and each of the weekly discussions in our Oathbringer Chapter Index.

We're just a week away from Oathbringer's release! How crazy is that?

    Oathbringer is my favorite book.

I know this will seem like an empty statement. We are on 17th Shard, after all. Loving a new Brandon book--especially a new Brandon cosmere book--is par for the course. But, with that said, I've thought about this for a long time, and I truly cannot think of a book I've read that has made me feel the things Oathbringer has. It has the highest highs, the lowest lows, and moments where your eyes go wide in amazement.

In crazy news yesterday afternoon, Paste Magazine spoke with Brandon Sanderson about how The Apocalypse Guard has been put on hold. Apocalypse Guard was going to be another book in the Reckoners universe. But now, Brandon said there was something broken about the book. Editorial feedback didn't help, and so it is being shelved for now. I suppose that's why the Apocalypse Guard trilogy progress bar disappeared from the site.

Happy Halloween! Today it's oddly fitting we have Oathbringer chapters 28-30. Two weeks away from Oathbringer's release, and next week will be the last of Part One of Oathbringer. As always, check out our discussion thread here, or discuss it in our Oathbringer channel on Discord. If you missed a chapter set, you can find them and each of the weekly discussions in our Oathbringer Chapter Index. Lastly, make sure you post Oathbringer stuff only in the Oathbringer subforum.

We talked about the Oathbringer endpapers before, and now we have the last two! (Scroll down for those, if you think those are spoilers, I suppose.) But there's lots more to talk about. White Sand vol. 2's release date, which was before right around Oathbringer's release, has been pushed back on Amazon to December 26th, 2017, really hitting that holiday release window... But still, waiting for a good product is always good, rather than wanting a rushed product. There hasn't been an official announcement, so it could still be in flux.

Last week Edgedancer, a Stormlight novella featuring Lift after her interlude in Words of Radiance, is out as a standalone hardcover, ebook, and audiobook. Edgedancer, thus far, has only been available in Arcanum Unbounded since last fall, but now if you have everything else in Arcanum Unbounded, you can now get it. It's a great way to tide yourself over until Oathbringer on November 14th. This release of Edgedancer also contains the Lift interlude from Words of Radiance, too, so you get all the Lift goodness.

The news just keeps coming for Oathbringer (it's like a book is coming out soon or something), and we now have Oathbringer's UK Tour Dates, which we haven't quite known for a while. And today, Barnes and Noble tweeted out some images of Oathbringer's endpages, which then we got the glorious, full art from Tor.com. We also know exactly who they are now, but maybe you find that to be a bit spoilery, so click past the break to find out more and to read our analysis on these.

Another week, another set of updates! Of course the big one is more Oathbringer: Chapters 22-24. Discuss them in our forum topic. Or, if you missed last week, check out our Oathbringer chapter index.

Next up we got two Dragonsteel chapters (which clearly are coming out Monday and Wednesday): Bridge Four Chapter 5 and Bridge Four Chapter 6.

We're a bit late here, but there's some new Oathbringer chapters, this time chapters 19-21! Great! Go discuss them in our Oathbringer Spoiler Board.

You can also now get a signed and numbered edition of Oathbringer from Weller's Book Works, as usual. If you'd like an inscription or a special inscription (like, asking a cosmere question), it will cost more, but the proceeds are going to charity. Brandon's Lightweaver Foundation will match those donations.

Happy Monday to you all! There's lots of news (and some older news we haven't covered), so let's get into it. First up, we have two new chapters from Dragonsteel Prime: Bridge Four #2 and Bridge Four #3, ending with Jerick becoming a bridge leader. Speaking of bridge leaders, we have a new annotation for Way of Kings, talking about chapter 1.

It's Tuesday, so you know what that means. It's time for yet another set of Oathbringer chapters, this time chapters 16-18! Since I'm not going to spoil them here, go check them out, or check out our discussion thread here. We also have some super exciting other things. We have another Merin chapter from Way of Kings Prime, but we also have an annotation for the prologue of Way of Kings. Most excitingly, we have a Bridge Four scene from Dragonsteel Prime. That's right. That Dragonsteel.

I know we just had a big Kickstarter, but there's another one coming up, and it's really cool. Shire Mint, folks who made wonderful fantasy coins for Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and Wheel of Time, are Kickstarting Mistborn coins from both Era 1 and Era 2. The coin art was designed by Isaac Stewart, inked by Ben McSweeney, and overall, the design, metals, weights, and styles were all approved by Brandon. For all intents and purposes, these are canonical coins. How freaking cool is this. It's basically new lore for Scadrial. I am in.

Shire Mint has worked with Team Sanderson for a year, and it sure shows.

Good morning! Tor.com has posted Oathbringer chapters 13-15. Good morning! Tor.com has posted Oathbringer chapters 10-12.Check out our forum topic on chapters 10-12, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index. There's also two Way of Kings Prime Chapters: Merin 1 and Merin 2. Merin, who, remember, is the version of Kaladin in Prime, is insanely different from Kaladin. There's lots of differences in the world. Oathgates exist and are active! Check it out. It's a fascinating look into an old draft.

Top of the morning to you all! Tor.com has posted Oathbringer chapters 7-9, and the plot thickens! Check out our forum topic on chapters 7-9, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index.

But wait, there's more! Yesterday we have a new Way of Kings Prime scene (this one is actually new, unlike the Jek scene which we apparently had since, uh, 2012. Oops), with our good friend "Dalenar." Yeah, the names are pretty wonky in this. This scene introduces proto-Dalinar and also, interestingly enough, the start of proto-Kaladin, who in this version was named Merin.

From now until Oathbringer's release this November, Brandon's assistant, Peter, will be posting some deleted scenes from the first two books. You might have missed these last week, but we now have awesome things: a scene from Way of Kings Prime--the version Brandon wrote in 2003--with proto-Szeth, and the first two Way of Kings annotations.

Your withdrawal is over. Tor.com has now posted Chapters 4-6 of Oathbringer. What else is there to say? Nothing, get to it! Seems like these will always occur at 9am Eastern time from now on, for sure. Here's our forum topic on Oathbringer Chapters 4-6, and for all Oathbringer preview chapters--and their discussion topic--check out the Oathbringer Preview Chapter Index.

Today we're taking a look at a really special thing. It's a Stormlight Archive album called Kaladin, by a group called The Black Piper. This is quite a huge project that has been worked on since 2015, and consists of three producers and several Hollywood composers and orchestrators. About half of the album has been recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. In other words, this is a very legit and awesome project.

The Black Piper has given 17th Shard a look at fourteen tracks--half of the album--and we're here to tell you about all of them to try to give you a feel for what these are. We're going to talk about the people involved with the project, and also, we're going to talk about the Kaladin Kickstarter they have

As we talked about last week, Tor.com is posting sample chapters of the third Stormlight book, Oathbringer, and will eventually post all of Part One of the book! And yesterday, they posted the final version of the prologue! The prologue has been at readings before, but this is now the final version.

It seems as though Tor.com is posting these Tuesdays at 12:01am Eastern time, so if you're desperate for the next posting (of the first the chapters), that's when you'll get it. Next week we will be more timely with our news article on it. After all, that's when the real new stuff begins!

Hey there Sanderfans. This weekend is the fiftieth anniversary of the Best Four Days in Gaming. That’s right, GenCon 50 started this past Thursday, and there is a bunch of Sanderson related awesomeness happening there. First and foremost is the fact that the man himself is in attendance. You can check out his schedule of events in the post about GenCon on his site. Brandon and Steve Argyle (who did two paintings of Vin for the Mistborn: The Final Empire leatherbound) are giving away special tokens that can be used in games like Magic: The Gathering (aka Brandon’s favorite game). The Warrior will be given to anyone who asks either Brandon or Steve for one, whereas the Assassin is the prize for a special scavenger hunt that Brandon explains in his GenCon post. If you aren’t there at GenCon don’t worry about missing out, Brandon has said that he will try to have them when he goes on tour.
