Something has been bothering me about the scene in The Final Empire where the Lord Ruler loses his metalminds. After Vin managed to rip them out and steel push them out the window, the Lord Ruler didn't use his own allomantic power to simply pull them back and restore his youth. Even though he was surprised, he was so used to using his allomantic powers that it feels far fetched that he wouldn't automatically use allomantic iron to retrieve them.

I was under the impression that feruchemical nicrocil could only grant one the ability to store the ability to use a magical power. This would mean that the Lord Ruler would have had to have burned metals for allomantic power just as any other misting or mistborn would.

So from this scene, I conclude that you can not only store the ability to use a specific power via feruchemical nicrocil, but you can also store the fuel necessary to use it as well. This would explain why the Lord Ruler couldn't just rely on his allomantic powers in the heat of the moment; it was more convenient to just store the fuel in his metalminds than to keep ingesting metals.

TLR didn't use Nicrosil, and his bands would be too invested for him to pull on.

Then how was Vin able to push on them after she pulled them out? Was she still drawing on the mists? I thought that she only did that for a moment, just long enough to pull out the bracers.

Mists aren't 1:1 it's like Stormlight, you breath some in, and then get to use it, if you don't use it all at once, you can use it for other things.

I also have been thinking of the lord ruler vs Vin. I just can't make up my mind whether the lord ruler underestimated her so much that she was able to do what she did or if he simply was putting on a show and wanted to die anyways.  Look at the generations of kandra.  Half of them are willingly melting into nothingness at this point.

Honestly the idea of immortality is better than the whole existing and watching lifetimes worth of friends and foes disappear off the face of the earth.  The lord ruler had a job to do... keep the world held together after he mismanaged reforming it the last time.

With my work taking care of patients who all seem so shocked that certain diseases are actually real (and some who accuse us of lying about it and perpetuating the lies of covids validity) I have seen a lot of providers give up and just look elsewhere for new work.   I can't imagine the lord ruler found any joy in sitting on his throne surrounded by people who either hated him or were to scared to admit that they hated him.

My ultimate theory is that the dude just didn't care anymore.  I imagine his last breath being a sigh of relief from lifetimes of being hated and bored.

This might be one of the best ways I've ever seen someone make note of The Lord Ruler's mentality. Every moment of Vin seeing him has him in one of two modes. Rage or weary exasperation. Even seeing his Cognitive Shadow in Secret History had him more annoyed at his death than anything.
