(Tolkien used them before they were overused, orcs were not used yet, hobbits were original (I think) the elves existed before but Tolkien used them in a different way, elves before Tolkien were more like fairies. the elves were pretty much Fey from other things. but Tolkien used them in ways that hadn't been used before.)\
