A neopronoun (literally means new-pronoun) is a personal pronoun outside of he/him or she/her or they/them. Some common examples are xe/xer and ze/zem. I'm honestly not the biggest expert on them, but they're typically used by non-binary people who don't feel like standard pronouns fit them. I've commonly seen them be used by xenogendered people, however I feel like there should be a standard gender-neutral pronoun that isn't plural like them/them is.

Oh ok

then yes

I'm pretty sure themselves is correct, however it does kinda sound like there's multiple people. This is a problem I've had with the English language for a while now, that the only gender-neutral pronouns we have are also used to describe multiple people. This leads me into a discussion topic:

Should neopronouns be adopted as singular gender-neutral pronouns?

I think it really depends. Some peope use the neopronouns cause they don’t wanna have either one or a gender thats fitted to them. So not gender neutral but a new one.

Which is why it gets confusing. Ersonally ive never met a neopronoun user and idk if there is one on the shard who can offer two cents in this debate.

So id say no. Or we get a new set for gender neutral singled ones.

Yes. Just not all neopronouns. Like i said. Maybe we get a new set.

(Slight correction, I accidently mixed up the neopronoun sets, the typical ones are xe/xem and ze/zir)

A new set would probably be ideal, but I feel like if this were to actually happen, existing neopronouns might be appropriated. I'm not non-binary though, so I'm not really qualified to discuss from that lens, only from the lens of someone who kinda knows a little about linguistic shift.

But anyway yeah, it's my point of view that while a new neopronoun (A neo-neopronoun?) would be ideal, an existing one being appropriated is better than not having a singular gender-neutral pronoun at all. But then maybe that's just me being pessimistic.

I will say, I think one of my biggest problems when it comes to talking about queer stuff is that I am too enamored with labels and the "proper" way to do things or having a standard or something. It's really only recently that I started to understand why other people care less about labels.

I agree that if this were to happen, we'd probably take the easy route and just appropriate one of the existing sets. We as a general humanity group don't much like coming up with new things

Yeah terms and labels are extremely fluid here

Also my friend did research and themself is actually a real word thats gramatically correct

Yeah neopronouns confuse me. Because I don’t understand them. I was confused by trans until i understood what it was from peoples experience. I haven’t met someone who has used neopronouns so i dont have first person words o what and how it is//feel but i realllyyyy wanna learn about it cause i dont wanna say anything bad or mean or undeducated to/about them.

wait were you not already? (Why am I asking this question? Clearly it is self-evident that my previously-held assumption is incorrect. What I am really doing is asking for more details in such a way that reveals that I had previously had a misconception.)

So like I kinda am but I wasn’t sure like that’s why my pronouns on the shard are she/they bc I wanted to see how I felt abt using female pronouns (I did this expecting to prove to myself I was a guy… it did not work) so I say I’m pretty sure I’m trans now bc I had thought abt it before but like yah idk does this make sense?

Oh, I see you've changed your pronouns to she/her. I imagine any last shades of denial have faded away.

Welp, you know you can always look to us for support!

(Also I'm sorry, but this situation sounds actually hilarious. "Oh, I'm so confident I'm cis that I'll change my pronouns to she/they just to show how much I won't like it.")

Well apparently the image originates from a comic someone drew, but at some point this character (don't even know her name lol) became a popular meme image thing in the transfem community.
