It followed them, quickly, longing to draw them into a infinite embrace of darkness. But not quickly enough. With a final exhale, Pheonix stumbled into the doorway and into the safety of the mime's hallway.

Her surroundings passed in a blur. She wished she could run as fast as Ember. But she'd have to make do with what her human body was capable of. She was panting by the time she made it back to the ship. Oh, Heather, please be okay, please... Ember sat up and blinked, sensing a human signature approaching. "Master." She let Heather's hair slide through her fingers and straightened her posture. Star stumbled into the room to find Ember waiting patiently and Heather slumbering quietly. There were blood stains on Heather’s tank top, but hopefully Ember had healed whatever had caused those. Oh, why had she thought it was a good idea to let Heather out of her sight? She could be so stupid sometimes… She sighed softly in relief. Ember was truly a wonder and Star would be forever grateful to her for her actions today. The Destroyer brightened, Star’s presence making her feel at ease. “Master! I am glad you have returned!” Star smiled and sat down on the bed beside Heather to catch her breath. “Hello, Ember. I can’t thank you enough for your help today. I’m just sorry it got so out of hand. You did very, very well.” Ember beamed, looking away. She hardly felt worthy of praise, but it felt so good. Star’s words meant more than the world to her. “Thank you, Highness.” “You can call me Star, you know.” The Destroyer shook her head. “You deserve my respect, Master.” Star bit her lip. She didn’t like how subservient Ember was to her, but she’d have to deal with that later. Right now, Heather needed love and support. Star was all too happy to give it to her. “What happened, Ember? Do you know why she’s all bloody?” Ember shook her head. “I found her in the bathtub, unconscious. I was able to heal her wounds, but I believe she was bleeding out for some time. I… should have prevented this from happening in the first place. She was not hurt when I went to get you. Should I have stayed behind? I tried to contact you mentally, but you did not respond. I believe the dream branch was interfering with my telepathy.” “Ember, you did as well as anyone could have.” She rubbed her face with her hand. “The poor girl… Has she been unconscious the whole time?” “No. She woke up briefly and was able to apply the gel you instructed me to create.” “Thank goodness for that. I hope it helps her. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it earlier. Ember… Thank you so much for being Heather’s friend. I’m very proud of you. It takes a great weight off my shoulders to know what there’s at least one other person who loves her as much as I do. I noticed a few days ago when you stepped in front of her when Shadow was insulting her. You’re incredible.” Ember looked away, cheeks burning warmly. Jaywalk he/him Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Jaywalk launched himself through the door to safety, the darkness at his heels. Almost immediately his mind was released from the pull of the nightmares, the ones that had plagued him for so long. Finally, he was released. No more pain. But he’d learned in his years that release was temporary. There was always something to grieve, something to endure, some raging flame to burn him back to cinders. It was strange, looking back. A mere twenty-three years since his birth, and yet it felt like so much more. As his Voidveins pulsed, memories flashed through his mind. Long nights spent in a cold, lonely castle; walking hooded through colorful avenues in a multitude of universes; his...betrayal, of his people—those that were Narrators. He was barely worthy of such a title. But for now, he was free. It was time to start anew. Jaywalk moved down the hallway carefully, arms crossed over his chest. “Where am I?”

In my headcannon, Narrators are born at a certain age. Star was about 17, and Sophie was about 15. Then, as they experience things that make them mature, they age. It's why Star didn't age until Marsh died, so she was 17 when she had both Granite and Rose, and then Astral - being the same age as she was when Marsh died - is 21. Star has aged pretty rapidly since. She'll stay 33 for a while, but by the time Pearl is about 5, I expect Star to be about 40 or so. I would assume that Jay has been through enough to age him more than just 23. But then, it is your character, so whatever.

As for an excuse to why he’s younger, let’s just say the touch of the Void changed him in that way, similar to how Worldhoppers have some sort of magical mechanism that makes them age differently. He’s traveled through universes, he’s very well explored, not unlike a Worldhopper.
