"Oh..." Star said. "Alright." Combining her forcefields and telepathy, Star shielded both Xino and Pheo's minds. Hopefully that would help. She folded her arms. "Well, where do we start looking?"

Posted

"Well to start with," asked Pheonix, "are you picking up any sort of mental signature from the Jaywalk that we see?"

Star closed her eyes, focusing deep within. She liked using her telepathy. It was TVG's gift to her and she couldn't imagine living without it. She raised her hand without thinking. "Yes," she said. "That way."

"That'll be the Tree," said Pheonix. He reached out as if to take her hand, then hesitated. "I'll guide you... if you want."

Star began walking the direction she was pointing. Her eyelids fluttered slightly as she walked, mind working with a razor sharp focus to block out the interference around her.

Holding Pheo’s hand was... fine. She didn’t shake like she had before, which was a good thing. She wasn’t scared of him. Was she? She hoped not. There wasn’t really any good reason if she was. He was sweet.

But then again... was he? What if he wasn’t really who he said he was? But if that was true, why would his kiss have woken her? True Love... It was all she wanted, but it didn’t just happen. She knew that. So then why had she expected it to be so different?

All of a sudden, Xino heard a sound. It was a sort of rattling hiss, like the last breath of a dying man.

From the ground in front of him oozed a twisted creature made of dark shadow. Instinctively, he blasted it. The light passed through it with ease and dissipated into a thousand wisps.

"Uh, Star..." he said warily. "We are getting close, right?"

Star twitched, slightly distracted by Xino's words. "Shh. I can't focus unless..." She got a hold on her center once more. "We're not too far," she said softly. "Though, if too many of those creatures start appearing we might have a bit of trouble." She shook her head, continuing to advance. "There's something here, interfering with the signal I'm tracking. I don't know what it is, but I don't like it one bit."

@xinoehp512
I was bored.

Heather sat in the bed, trying to ignore the pain. She felt as her “mental defenses” began to crumble, leaving the desire for the drink. Ember and Star would understand… Heather sat up, got out of bed, and sprinted out the back door, hoping Ember wouldn’t notice. She began looking for drink. The wine cellar isn’t an option…In a sort of crazed delirium, the Inquisitor went through each room looking for anything too stop the pain.

Like a wildcat alerted to the sound of prey, Ember's head snapped up, her ears twitching slightly. Her mental link had been disturbed by movement and her ears confirmed it. Ember stood up and walked without a sound to the closed door which she pulled open with a gauntleted hand. Heather was gone.

Ember pouted, slightly annoyed, but mostly confused as to why her friend had left. Still, finding her wouldn't be a problem. She'd memorized what Heather's signature sounded like. She walked on silent feel, both unhurried and unworried, until she spotted the escapee. She folded her arms.

"Heather, it is not nice to leave while I am supposed to be watching you. Such action is a form of dishonesty."

Heather sat there in just a tank top and shorts, rummaging in a drawer. She spun around, backing away from Ember. She hissed, saying: “No, no no…You don’t understand what it’s like…” Heather darted up and ran out the door.

Ember cocked her head, further confused. What should she do? Could she help her? What did "help" look like in this situation? Ember started to walk after her.

"Heather? Heather are you alright?"

Ember put her hands on her hips. She did not like being ignored. Following the sounds and her signature, Ember walked into the room. Heather had seemed just find just a bit ago. "I do not understand what you are doing," Ember said tightly.

Ember felt her stomach drop, big eyes widening in horror. This was exactly what Star had wanted her to prevent. Ember dashed forward on her long legs, moving to reach for the bottle. Then, however, she realized that pure force was not exactly going to work.

The bottle and its contents disappeared, lost to the wind and never to return.

The bottle promptly did as it had been commanded. Ember tapped her foot. "No, no, no."
