"So..." started Xino, "if he's locked in a cell somewhere... should we just start looking?"

Star hardly heard him. What had just happened to her? Why was she so on edge? She looked down at her fingers to find that they were trembling. What's wrong with me? she thought. 

[Jaywalk he/him]

Another nightmare prowled at the edges of Jaywalk's mind, pushing against the barrier of the Void. He closed his eyes and flared, sending the nightmare away, but when he opened them again, Star and Pheonix were further away. He cursed under his breath. This place...it was something parallel to the Void, another Cognitive Realm.

He looked again at the doorway. He could feel it. The realms were about to collide. "Oh no..."

Ember was silent for a moment. "... Yes. But this feels different. She is closer this time."

"So we really won't have to do anything?" Wait, if Star is not here... Heather stopped her train of thought immediately. No, she would not try anything stupid. Especially since she just made up with Ember. But the pain...

"I am unworried," Ember said. "She came back before. Besides, she is with Xino and Master Pheo." She blinked. "But you are still pained. Is there anything I may do for you?"

"I don't think there is anything you can do."

Ember furrowed her brow sadly. With all her power, Heather still thought she was useless. "Surely there is something. I... do not like feeling unhelpful."

Hmm...Like letting me have some alcohol? "Ember, my pain is more emotional...You aren't exactly...Suited for that."

"But I want to help you," Ember pleaded.

"But you deserve to have what you want..." Ember muttered. "I do not."

"Life isn't fair. And you deserve happiness and joy too."

Ember sat still and stared off into the distance, lost in thought.

Ember shook herself. "I am... good." She blinked.

"Okay." Heather laid back down, facing away from Ember.

Ember laid her elbow against her knee and rested her cheek on her fist, watching Heather quietly and unblinking.

I bet she's stalking me..."Ember, could I have some privacy?"

"Yes, yes," the Destroyer said. She got up and walked out, sitting on the opposite side of the hallway with her back against the wall. She was mildly saddened to be sent away, but she was more distressed at her inability to help. Could she do anything right?
