That was... amazing.

Okay... Umm, I'm impatient, so I'm going to start rolling this along. Xino can add to this, I guess.

Star gasped suddenly and raised a hand to her forehead. She felt something dark, something pressing at the edges of this place. And... someone screaming from within, begging to be released. She cried out softly. "Xino," she whispered. "Someone is here. Someone anguished." She squeezed her eyes shut, a headache bursting in her mind. "I feel them..." she muttered. "In my mind."

Xino's posture jerked to alertness. "Where?" he asked, voice tense.

Star tried to focus. "They..." Her eyes fluttered underneath their lids and she raised a trembling finger pointing to a door in the hallway.

Xino snapped his fingers, causing Pheonix's mini platform to freeze in midair. Another snap, and the platform began to grow. He hopped on, then held down a hand to help the others up.

As Star stepped up onto the platform, she felt a kind of thrill resolve within her. The thrill of plot. She found that she missed it. Not the pain and the conflict, but... helping people. This was a chance to be good, play hero for a moment or two. That would make her feel better. Right now her heart was full of worry and pity for Heather. She was a bit terrified because she didn't quite know what she could do to make the girl feel better. This however, was something she could do.

Star pointed the same way she had earlier. "Forward," she said.

Xino snapped his fingers again, and the platform shot forwards.  Wind stung the passengers' eyes as it accelerated. Despite its speed, however, the end of the hall seemed no closer. If anything, it seemed farther away. The walls, floor and ceiling pulled back, too- almost as if the entire platform was shrinking.

In the air around them, colorful blurs began to form and resolve into various objects. Trees, birds, animals- an entire jungle of fanciful creatures.

"Ards"?

Star watched the off scene with interest. "What is this place...?" she found herself muttering. It was like a completely different Narrational Plane. One with different rules, different Narrators. The whole thing had a strangely surreal feeling to it, making her rather dizzy. She stumbled slightly, bumping into Pheo's arm. "Oh," she said, looking up to meet his eyes. "Sorry." She smiled slightly.

Whoops. :P Copy-pasted into the middle of text by mistake.

Pheonix blushed and looked away, out at the scenery. "It's the Land of Dreams," he said. "Part of it, at least."

Uh, you never responded to Ember requesting help for getting Heather asleep because you guys needed to catch up.

Ember nodded. Star, Heather would like to know how she may sleep without nightmares.

Right. 'Cause that depends on when this stuff is happening. See, even if Heather only slept a half hour, then that would still mean that time needs to move forward with Star. Right now, it's only been about five minutes since Heather and Ember left. Which means that Star won't get Ember's telepathic message for another 25 minutes. Likely right before Star is able to help get Jay out of the Nightmare Realm. See what I mean? The timelines aren't matched up yet.

"Wow," Star said. "And it's just... been here. That's crazy."

"Yeah," said Pheonix.

There was silence for a moment.

Star sighed and regarded Pheonix quietly. He was so wonderful. Her heart pounded in her chest, pulse suddenly racing. Oh, Author, she did love him, she just... didn't...

Feeling wild, she took his arm and leaned close to him. She trembled slightly, but tried to make herself relax.

Pheonix leaned in, cuddling with her against the whirling breeze.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" he said, his words almost swallowed by the wind.

"Y-yes," she said. "I suppose..." Star looked down at her shaking hands. Something about that sight made a part inside of her buckle. Tears rose up and blurred her eyes. Storm it, why was she so frail all of a sudden? Pheonix was here with her, she had no right to be breaking down like this. She held him tighter, but felt nothing but deep-seated unease.

Pheonix breathed out slowly, holding Star close, listening to the whistle of the wind and watching the landscape blur by. He said nothing.

A minute or two later, Xino spoke up. "We've almost arrived," he shouted over the wind.

Star nodded absently and glanced up at Pheo. But as she stared into the amber depths of his eyes, she knew exactly what was bothering her. There was a strangeness there, a kind of haunting unfamiliarity that she had been denying. She knew Pheonix, yes, but how much time had she really spent with him? Mere moments, in the grand scheme of things. Was she truly so desperate to be held that she would give away her entire self to someone she barely knew?

Yes. Yes she was.

Worse than the realization that she didn’t know Pheonix all that well was the fact that she felt crushingly unworthy of his love. She could see it in his gaze, feel it in his aura, just how much he really cared, but all she felt was a kind of dread. What did she do to deserve this? Why should he be so devoted to a woman with a soul as villainous, darkened, battered as hers? It was one thing for Heather, who had never been subject to any real love before, to feel such attachment to the only one who showed her any kindness, but Pheo who claimed to see through the sludge of her demented past?

The platform jolted to a stop on the ground. Xino snapped his fingers and the railing around the platform disappeared.

"Here it is," he said, gesturing to a door suspended in midair. "The door at the end of the hallway."
