Star froze, swallowing as her face went pale. She guiltily remembered thoughts she hadn't voiced or typed in the pages past. 

If Silence hurts one of them and I have to choose between letting them die and continuing on… I don’t want to be forced into that situation. Because I honestly don’t know what I would do. I’ve been waiting for far too long for this and I don’t want to keep sitting here, doing nothing to bring him back. That’s… that’s my first priority. To get him back home.

So now he was home. At the cost of everyone else.

"So... what do we do?" she asked quietly.

Suddenly, Star's eyes widened. "Wait a second," she said. "There was a portal in Silence's Realm. Do you think we could use that somehow? I know it's a long shot, but it's all I have."

Tom looked thoughtful. "Maybe..." he said slowly. "It might not be that different from the one we're designing. But Silence has access to resources we do not, so perhaps..." He shrugged. "The real question is, are you willing to brave Silence's realm again? Author only knows how you managed to escape this time."

Star looked down. "Of course I don't want to," she said. "I don't want to do anything! I wanted to be done 60 pages ago, and now look at me! But... Silence is dead, Tom. I.... I killed him. I shouldn't have... But I killed him."

"I didn't mean to!" Star said. "I had him at gunpoint... Shadow made me mad... I didn't want to... I never meant for..." Star's lower lip quivered. "I am not a bad person. I am not a villain. I am not evil, I am not what I was. And I didn't want to kill him." Star blinked, tearing up, but squared her shoulders, taking a deep breath.

Ember kept her eyes on Star, feeling ashamed and small. The blonde woman looked distressed and tired. Ember was very grateful that her master had returned, but she didn't feel adequate enough to face her. She was a poor servant. An inefficient guardian.

Pheonix's face fell. He hated it when Star spoke like this, like she was the villain. "Oh, Star..."
