You don't have to. It just makes you 20% cooler if  you do.

The entire Guilds section of the site has been less active, the zeal and charisma of clan combat fading over time. In years to come it may be remembered as a short but memorably strange period of 17th Shard history.

It was never my favorite section of the site, frankly... And I left for a little while and I came back and everyone is now a pony... Where did this stem from??? I thought this was a Brandon Sanderson fandom site, not an MLP fan site...

'Tis all in good fun. Sanderson shares part of his fandom with MLP fans, and thus there are a handful of Sharders with strong ties to the brony community.

 

Quiver first brought this aspect of the community to light, eventually starting an entire faction devoted to the show. (The Herd.) Captioned screenshots from the show began to be used as a way of light jesting and overall treating ourselves with irreverence. At some point, an individual who shall not be named here made a pony version of his RP character elsewhere on the site, thus spreading The Herd like a contagious disease through the other players.

 

This ultimately led to several frequent contributors strutting around the site with pony profile pics and posting pictures of ponies on various threads. While bewildering to those unacquainted with the phenomenon, it is simply a classic case of a meme spreading through a community, and will likely dissipate once a new fad comes along.

 

Though perhaps not, because my PPP (Pony Profile Picture) is awesome.
