Dapper walked up to the castle walls and jumped. The purple fog trailed after him, forming into figures who piled up on each other, trying to reach the top of the wall. Dapper himself simply continued sailing upward. As soon as he reached the top of the wall, a gold light glowed around him and he disappeared.

A golden glow appeared in the throne room, slowly becoming more defined, into a large figure with a distinctive top hat and long coat.

Ghanderflaffle watched disappointedly as this happened and turned to walk away, but then remembered that she was a Narrator and willed herself into the castle.

She didn't will herself to a particular place inside the castle so she ended up near Road.

Xino smiled.

The ground began to shake. The walls of the castle began to vibrate.

Xino began to glow, an inner flame shining through his skin.

"Do you want an epic battle? That can be provided."

Just the irises. In this form though, I picture her eyes to have bled to all black. Her skin is ebony and constantly changing. Like it can't sit still.

“Why can’t I be the Shadow Queen? Honestly, I’ve had a more traumatic life than you.” Tendrils of shadow wrapped around Narrator Shadow, becoming armor. She also summoned her bow, and some arrows.

Flames exploded from Xino's body, wrapping him in a cloak of flickering orange and yellow.

The castle vibrated even more fiercely. Then the walls began to melt and shift.

Xino raised his hands, flames spiraling from marks that had appeared on his skin.

With a shudder, the castle twisted on itself. Stone grated on stone as it folded up and out.

“Do you know why this castle heals itself, Astral? Because it’s alive. It’s sentient. And it wants to defend itself.”

He snapped. Flames burst outwards from his fingers, racing over the walls.

With one final jerk, the castle stood up. It towered over the figures below, staring at them with deep sapphire eyes. In its hand, it held a sword, bigger than all of them put together.

It opened its mouth and roared, a horrendous sound that shook the earth itself.

"I just claimed the title first, Shadow." Astral stretched. "So, shall we come to them or let them come to us?"

Dapper frowned at the large castle with a sword looming over him.

"Not what I thought would happen."

He spread his arms and a golden glow enveloped him. Purple mist began to stream off of his body. He rose a few inches off the ground, arms still spread.

Xino shot up towards the giant. It stood in a strong, firm, pose. It held its sword with two hands, ready to strike down any who would harm the ones it defended.

He slowed as he approached the chest. A large rune of some sort had been carved in the center, over where the heart would be. He reached out and let his fingers brush across it.

Lines of power rippled across the surface from the point of contact, spreading across the whole figure. A network of some sort, much like blood vessels or nerves. Interesting.

He looked upwards, into the sapphire eyes. Then he smiled.

The flames that tossed across his skin began to ripple faster and faster. He felt the power saturating his physical form, ripping at it, trying to destroy it.

And then, in an instant, it did.

He exploded outwards in waves of fire, no longer constrained by the form of humanity he had created. He floated there for a moment, free, as he reoriented himself.

Then he reached forth a tendril of flame and touched the heartrune.

The flames flew in faster than the eye could see, filling the vessels of the statue with power. The statue shook slightly as the new power took control, but did not resist.

A second later, the eyes of the statue bled to a deep, fiery red. The features contorted in a grimace as they rearranged themselves to suit their new master.

Then they smiled.

“Wᴇ ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ ᴏᴜɢʜᴛ ᴛᴏ ɢᴇᴛ ɢᴏɪɴɢ,” said the statue, in a voice that shook the sky itself. “Wᴇ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ɢᴀɪɴ ᴀɴʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ʙʏ ᴡᴀɪᴛɪɴɢ ʜᴇʀᴇ.”

Demonic wings burst out Narrtor Shadow’s back, horns sprouting out of her head, and her tailbone grew longer, until it was full length, with a spire at the end. Her eyes become red slits. Black, inky portals appeared everywhere dropping monsters from the sky and ground. A massive scorpion and spider also exploded into existence.

Astral shook her head. How dramatic. Her skin, sporadic as it was, began to move, forming silver markings. Her hair grew long and she smiled. Just like her lavender counterpart. But she wore slender metal boots better than bare feet. Storming Thought. Not even a part of her anymore.

The dark creatures made a mess. They were storming hard to destroy and their blood stained. That's why I lost the dress, Astral thought to herself. Too fluffy. She smiled, melting to the floor and stabbing through the monsters with her essence. It felt good to finally do something.

Xino surveyed the field, unimpressed. He raised his sword, pointing it at one of the enemies.

Red light burst from the blade, shooting across the field. The targeted monster was illuminated from within for a brief second before the light destroyed it, along with all those near it.

He pointed his sword elsewhere, releasing more bolts. The dark enemies fell in droves as they were extinguished by the light.

He grunted. This was all? This was easy. For horrible, world-ending monsters, they sure weren’t very powerful.

Suddenly, something struck his arm, dragging him and flipping him over. His hard stone head smacked against the ground, sending a tremor through the earth.  He gave a cry and struck out backwards, at whatever thing had grabbed him.

His sword sheared through a thick strand of something sticky. What in the world…?

Another thread soon followed the first, and then another, sticking his arm and leg against the ground. He sheared through those threads as he had the first. He jumped to his feet, and nearly got knocked over by another strand of the stuff. Where was all of this coming from?

Another thread flew at him, but this time he was ready. He activated his sword, destroying it completely in a burst of red fire.

A loud screech of pain split the air. He turned his gaze towards the sound, trying to determine what had made it.

A giant spider scuttled backwards behind him, recovering from the burn it had received from his blast. As he watched, it spat up some silk and bandaged the wound.

He smiled. Finally, a challenge.

Astral had read enough stories to know that when a force like this was invading, you had to destroy the source. There would be no end unless they found it. "Shadow," she said. "We need to go into the Shadow Realm." She grunted, summoning a sword to her hand to block the pincer of a scorpion. The sword dissolved as soon as it became redundant. "Find where these things come from. Destroy it for good. Will you help me?"

Dapper's frown turned into a grin as one of the monsters entered his mist. Figures formed from it and began attacking the monster with various weaponry. The moster tried to fight back but it's claws swiped through the figures with no effect.

I feel like I should become more dramatic and brooding, but at the same time I want to ride a ghandercorn and fight with an army of ghanderflaffles.

I am pretty sure I did. They could have been mentioned before, though. I haven’t read the entire thread.
