Shana went upstairs into her room and stared at her mess for a moment. Then she started to look through her cloths, searched for some jeans that weren't dirty, or had been washed so often that the fabric was showing signs of use. In the end she found a pair that were a bit crinkled from lying in a corner for who knew how long, but at least they were clean. Quickly she put them on and removed her shirt, started to look for something a little bit nicer than a simply shirt. Her search prooved futile this time and in the end she had scattered her cloths all over her bed and table, only to come to the conclusion, that the one green shirt she had in mind was too small. Unsurprisingly, she hadn't used it in two years.

She threw it back on her general pile of cloths and sat down, hugged her knees again, stared at the chaos she had created. Her room was never as organized as Ben's, but right now, it looked like something had exploded inside of it. With a sigh she lay back and looked at her ceiling, tried to think of a good solution.

In the end she exchanged the clean light blue jeans, for a darker one that was showing signs of wear, but with the darker blue she could wear a cream colour shirt, that looked nice with the slight red touch of her hair. She had to move her climbing equiptment out of the way, so that she could close the door of her wardrobe and look at herself in the mirror. She looked like a teen. There was nothing festive about her outfit, nothing that screamed, wedding. It was a pair of jeans and a shirt. She wished she had something nice, something she could simply wear for an occasion like that one, something that fit and suit her. Jace and Ax would look splendid in their suits and she was wearing a pair of jeans. Anger flared again and she picked up her dirty cloths, finally carried them into their lavatory, stuffed them into the washing maschine and started it. There, now that was done as well.

She walked back into the kitchen, looked around to see who was stil there. James. She forced a slightly artificial smile on her face when she remembered the candles in the backyard, considered to ask him to help her and put them into the water, but instead she stayed quiet. She had to be strong, he had to know that he could rely on her to do her job. Doc didn't trust her, if James stopped trusting her as well she was as good as useless.

"I found some fitting table cloths and spread them on the tables. I think we're good to go, once Edwin is back and Cass and Leona finished spreading the flowers."

James noticed Shana smiling at him. Something is obviously bothering her he noticed. He walked over to her, and put a hand on her shoulder. "All right Shana, no need to keep hiding it." James said, warmly, "Now, what's on your mind?"

Shana paused, when he asked what was on her mind. Strong, she'd planed to be strong. And yet, the offer to talk came unexpected and at the same time she had yearned for it, had worried about the candles, about everything.

"Could you maybe place the swimming candles in the pool?" She asked him, not mentioning the reason why she hadn't put them there. "They are lying on the ground next to it." Scattered would be a better description, but she still tried to avoid him thinking of her as weak. She had to fight, she had to be strong. She had to. It was her place. If she lost her place, her reason to be here, she had nothing else left.

James smiled and nodded in affirmation. "Is there anything else you want to talk about?" he asked.

Edwin didn't know where to go. There were specialized places where one could go when it came to sweets tables, but they would probably snap at him wherever he went for making such an unreasonable request on such short notice. Why were they planning this in half a day again?

Sure enough, five places in a row asked him to leave using words that weren't exactly PG material. Plan B then.

At the sixth place, he didn't ask for a sweets table, he only started picking up the sweets. Cupcakes, biscuits, chocolates and some other things he didn't know the name of. Since it wasn't designed to go everything on the same table, it wouldn't look too pretty but it would do.

He got out of there with three big bags and in the way back he bought a few other, more conventional, things, you never know when someone will want something simple like a Snickers. All in all he spent in a single day more than he would usually spend in a month, therefore ensuring he would starve at school for the next three weeks or so. But hey, it was a special day.

Finally he got to the house and opened the door with difficulty. "Do we have a free table?!" he asked as soon as he was inside.

"Probably. Want help finding one?" Evelyn offered. Using the kitchen table was out of the question, since it was still completely covered in stuff. The good news was that instead of it being covered in dishes and groceries, it was now filled with towers of tacos and other foods.

"Yeah, thanks." he said, putting the bags on the floor for a moment. They weren't exactly heavy but it was an interesting experience to carry them around the city. "It hasn't started yet, has it?"

“Nope,” Cass said, walking in from the hallway, where blossoms now adorned the banister. “We need a table? Um, we could cobble together a bunch of bedside tables and those ones at the ends of the halls. Or Uncle James might have a workbench somewhere we could use.”

Shana leaned back, grabbed another pancake that was leftover from breakfast and started to eat. There were so many things she wanted to talk about, so much stuff, she wasn't even sure where to start. Wasn't even sure if she should start at all. If she did, then he know it all, would consider her weak. And she couldn't afford to be weak. And yet his offer was nice, it felt good that someone cared, wanted to talk. She didn't quite understand why he was interested now, when he hadn't been interested earlier, but at the same time it felt too good to ignore his offer.

James nodded sympathetically, offering a caring smile. "I see." he said, quietly. "Is there any specific reason why you fear water?" he asked, "The only way I can help you face your fears is if I know their origin."

"There is." Shana nodded. "But I don't want to talk about it now. Not on Jace wedding day."

She sighed. "It's part of the reason I bonded my spren." Her eyes were still on her pancake. "It's no happy story."

Shana followed him, but stayed close. She had tried to face her fear once, that was enough for today. The pool was still calm, the water mirror like. She picked up a part of the candles, avoided to look at the water at all.

"My parents drowned." She told him quietly and offered him the candles. "I can barely remember, only the water pressing on my mouth and nose. Someone pushed me on a roof," she fell silent. "My dreams are clearer, but the blurr when I wake up." Swallowing she closed her eyes.

"It's like a far distant nightmare that never leaves me. Only when there is water, then it all comes back, the fear, the pain. Only the fear, the feeling that I'm dying."

"Rob knows - but Ashlyn is here, I couldn't ask him."

The present was done, complete with string through a hole to complete them as necklaces. Rob would almost smile if it didn’t go against every fibre of his being. But, the necklaces certainly were nice. At least, Rob thought so. A part of him worried that Ax and Jason wouldn’t like it, that they would throw it away, but he knew, it was an irrational thought.

He hadn’t dealt with someone unpleasant like that in a long time. Usually bullies quit trying to bother you when you didn’t show a single emotion, it became boring for them. So, instead Rob knew that while no one really bothered him up front, some people talked behind his back. And that was okay. He wasn’t doing his education to impress anyone.

Putting the present in his pocket, he looked around with a smile. The decorations were done! Or so it seemed to him anyway.
