"Cassie, can you see Mahad?"

Cassie looked uneasily at Shana. “No.”

“So, uh, what do I do with this now?” Leona asked, gesturing  with her Blade. “Cut things?”

"I guess. Although, we probably shouldn't destroy the training dummies. I've heard you can dull a Radiant blade without a guard, somehow."

"Hmm. Well, maybe we could ask Joy to show herself. We should be able to see her, right? Or is she one of the kinds that can't?"

"Yeah, but I wanna try cutting things first." She trailed off, admiring her blade's glow. "What if I soulcasted, like, a bunch of rock, sliced it up, then soulcast it into something else? Like air?"

Flid nodded, and handed her a glowing sphere.

Shana nodded and closed her eyes, fought the suspicion that rose at the back of her mind. Only Radiant's could see spren. If Cassie couldn't, then that meant that she was no Radiant anymore.

"Cassie, where is Joy?"

She asked and then didn't wait for a reply, instead she spoke quickly, hastily. She had failed, failed, failed. There were only two ways to loose a spren, and Cassie would never. They had attacked her, while Shana had been so preoccupied playing the hero, that she had ignored the weak ones. She had - Ask first, panic later. Mahad told her and Shana nodded.

"Did they hurt you, is it the crystal? Did they take her away, or kill her or - what happened?"

What?” Cassie took a step backward. “What do you mean, crystal? Joy is fine. I’m fine. I haven’t been hurt.” She frowned at Shana. “I don’t get it. What’s wrong?” Why are you so panicked?

Sorry, Per, she’s ignoring Flid because Shana is weirding her out :P

I haven't been hurt. I haven't been hurt. A part of her mind started screaming, loudly, so loud that she had trouble to continue thinking. Srength before weakness. She had to be strong, she could be strong. It was the only way.

"Cassie."

Shana said carefully, slowly.

"When you can't see spren anymore, then you aren't a Radiant anymore. Because that's what we do. We have spren and we speak oaths and we can see our spren."

She tried to take her hands.

"So there are two possibilities. The Voidbringers hurt you in some way. Their crystal, their powers, whatever. Anything. Or you aren't a Radiant anymore. Because you did something. Something, that went against the rules."

Without realizing her tone turned begging, because everything would be fine if Joy was here. Maybe something else had happened, something she didn't knew about.

"Please Cassie, where is Joy?"

Cassie looked down uncomprehendingly at Shana’s hands holding her own as she begged, waiting for her to finish. When she did, Cassie started speaking slowly, trying to calm her down. “I don’t know specifically where Joy is at this very moment, but I’m sure she’s around here. I promise you, Shana, she’s all right. The Nightwatcher told me I wouldn’t be able to see spren. It wasn’t the Voidbringers, it was a Radiant spren - a Bondsmith spren, no less.” She smiled gently at Shana. “I’m still a Knight Radiant. Maybe I didn’t have to say all the Immortal Words before I got to this point, but hey, I’m a Willshaper! We’re supposed to do different things and explore in new directions anyway.”

A dread so strong that it took her breath filled Shana, yanked at her heart and almost suffocated her.

"Which point? Which point do you mean?"

She asked intensely, her grip around Cassie's hand tightening. Don't see spren. Yes, but it was only a part, a small part of it. She hadn't spoken the words. If she'd advanced, used the Nightwatcher to advance. Silently she begged Cassie to prove her wrong, to give her something, anything that told her that she was wrong. She was a Willshaper. Maybe she was right and they did things differently.

I want to hug Shana so badly right now  the worst part is that she’s partially right and Cassie made a mistake.

Didn’t I already say this? Maybe she missed it. Or maybe I wasn’t clear. Yeah, it was probably my fault. “The point where I have the powers a Willshaper of the Fifth Ideal would have?”

Shana shook her head. She'd known, but to hear it again, she turned away, clenched her hands to fists. It was her fault. She should have seen it earlier. She should have done a better job. There had been no need for Cassie to do that, to ask for power without the words. Because it was only that. Power without words, was power without words. She wasn't a Radiant. A Radiant was about the words, not the power. Joy, if Joy was alright, then she was, something in between? Cassie would know if something had happened to Joy.

"Cassie."

She whispered, then forced a smile on her face. James, she needed to talk to James. Stopping herself from running away, she looked back at Cassie, she was mor important. James would know, he was a Bondsmith. They knew these things.

"Yes, I remember. You are right. I just freaked out for nothing. Let's go back to the others?"

It's bad. Bad, bad, bad. Mahad sung into her ear. It's wrong. It's about the journey, it's only about the journey.

She shook her head, signaled the little dragon to stay quiet. First get Cassie to the others, then grab James.

“All right,” Cassie said carefully, watching the other girl as she started walking toward Leona and Flid. Finally, she faced them, shook off the uneasiness Shana had infused her with, and said brightly, “So, how do you think I do this Shardplate thing?”

Shana followed Cassie for a few steps, then headed to James.

"We need to talk. It's urgent."

She told him curtly. Her voice shaking slightly. She was in control, for now, but she felt like mountain about to explode. Wrong. She had to be wrong.

“Do you have to be touching it?” Ashlyn asks, her mind immediately going over a ton of different military applications to that.

“Yes. Well...” he remembered the knife, pressed against Shana’s throat. The interlocking parts of the air. The desperation he’d felt but hadn’t shown. Never shown. Emotions were something men didn’t do, Rob had been told since his childhood. And the lesson had stuck.

“I can do it from a short distance, if I concentrate. And not just rock. Asphalt, rock, metal, probably others.” He thought about his second ability, tension, and an idea sprung to his head. But he tried to hide the enthusiasm on his face, even though it was hard.

“Do you want to see something cool?”

Jason paused, seeing the groups of people. Shana was... really worried. "Hey Ax, you go tell your best friends, alright? I'll tell Leona, then Shana. Sound good?" He smiled. Shana probably needed a minute to cool down... She seemed very upset about something. He hummed softly approaching the other girl Shana had been talking too. "Hi... do you know where Leona is...?" He smiled, a little uneasy. Then again, everyone was after last night...

Leona is in the backyard

Leona took the sphere from Flid. “Thanks.”

Inhaling, she closed her eyes and opened them in the other side. The Cognitive realm. She found a sphere that vaguely corresponded to the air in front of her, then picked it up.

“You want to settle down, to be solid. You are cold. You are stone.”

She was surprised how much easier this was than when she was only on her second ideal. When she opened her eyes, there was a lump of solid rock in front of her.

Grinning, she swung her blade down. She almost fell over. There was no resistance from the rock at all. This was like cutting butter!

Steadying herself, she turned to Flid. “I think this thing works.”

"That's one way to describe it, it cut clean through those rocks!"  Flid sayed excited. "I wonder, if you soulcast air that easily, what else can you do?

Jace smiled, nodding. "Thank you. That is extremely helpful. Have a nice day!" He waved, happily walking over to Leona and standing about a foot away, waiting politely for them to notice and either include him in the conversation, or give him a hint that now wasn't a good time.

James noticed the obvious panic in Shana's voice, and looked at her, concerned. "What is it Shana?" he asked, with an edge to his voice.

"What happened with Cassie?"

Shana asked him urgently, moved a hand through her hair and then explained.

"She jumped four oaths, can't see spren, and she talked to the Nightwatcher. James, what happened? It doesn't work like this."

Her voice stayed quiet, but remained slightly panicked, desperate almost.

"You can't just jump oaths? Or can she as a willshaper? What happened?"
