Eiss looked from the kids to her fellow police officer, then took up a pencil and wrote, I could, yes, but I think a lie detector might be more helpful. Something about the way these kids spoke, not so serious that it sounded like a rehearsed story, just enough like the way kids would normally talk - like it was simply part of their life. Eiss didn’t think they were lying. Which would of course be why he wanted someone with trauma experience, because this must be delusions or drugs or schizophrenia...but all of them?

Maybe it was stupid to think even for a moment that what they said was true, but Eiss didn’t think it could do any harm.

I don't think they are lying, if you take the sense of the word. Exchange demon for kidnapper and magic for gun - youths. Maybe it's easier for them to grasp, that their were taken by a demon, that they are heros fighting evil than to face a situation where they had to pick up guns and shoot those trying to take their friends away and judging their injuries tried to kill them as well.

Miller wrote back, in what was hopefully a respectful tone. What use was another officer, if they questioned every order of his? the time to teach the young ones something was later.

"So, you created the cake, out of thin air?"

He repeated and looked at Leona.

"Could you please explain why you did it, and if there was another car as well?"

@BookishOcelot

"And who of you fought actively against the... demons?"

Thorvaldson took some notes and then smiled.

"I see. That fits our reports. So to sum up. Ben and Shana were kidnapped, as there was only one, Rob charged him, they managed to escape, Ben was injured. The rest of the kidnappers were waiting in the van and once there was trouble, the shooting started. The kidnapper had a dolphin tattoo at his neck."

"Did I get that right? If yes, please answer a last question: where did all the cake come from?

“I didn’t,” Cassie said quietly. “I’m not much of a fighter.” She closed her eyes and breathed in deeply. I’ll find some way to be a better Radiant. Some way.

See, that, though, Eiss wrote back earnestly. The way they’re so...into it. Sure, they could’ve convinced themselves of that, it makes sense - a sad sense, but it fits. But all of them, all together? You’d think there would be some in this group whose stories didn’t match.

"I hit two of them with a hammer but they're probably healed by now." said Edwin. It was somewhat relieving to be able to tell the truth. As long as it didn't take them to a mental institution.

Cassie gave Leona an alarmed look.

I gotta admit part of me just wants to leave it at that but :P

“Do you even have any Stormlight right now?”

Just picture her talking like an eighth grade (14-15 years for you non-'Muricans)

Leona rolled her eyes. "Obviously," she said in her best ditz impression. "I never leave home without some."

One of the officers gave her an worried look. "Is that some kind of drug?"

"Do I look like a druggie to you?"

"Well-"

She cut him off. "It isn't a drug. It's cake material. And the cake is delicious, as my friends can vouch for."

Cassie sighed. “It’s this glowing Light stuff that fuels our powers,” she told the police. “And yeah, okay, the cake is pretty great.” She grinned at Leona.

Apologies for not being on today, I've been incredibly sick today, and just not in the right mental state to contribute my best self to the RP.

Oh no, I hope you get better! Don’t feel pressured to write.

We'll see. What do you propose to do?

Miller wrote back and sighed. Hit two with a hammer? Almost incredible if he took into account that the adults had used guns. Still Edwin looked relieved, as if it helped him, that he spoke it out loud. So it probably was the truth.

"Could you please describe the men you hit with the hammer?"

@Eluvianii

"You can create cake out of glowing light?"

He shook his head.

"Go ahead. Show me."

Describe them? Big, red-eyed and evil, right? But no, they looked like people, normal people. He just, hadn't really thought about it until now. But what did they look like? Why was it so hard to remember? He surely wasn't so insensitive as to not remember the face of someone he had left unconscious, right? After all, he didn't kill them for that same reason.

He looked at Twin, still on his shoulder, maybe she remembered, but she didn't appear to be paying attention. She looked nervous. Probably scared from being surrounded with so many people with weapons, they had never been in such a situation before.

He turned back to the officer. "I.. didn't get a good look at them." he said lowering his gaze, ashamed. "But, I remember where we were. They were chasing me away from the rest and I found the hammer in the front garden of a house." he remembered all the wood and tools. "A treehouse. I think they were building a treehouse. Maybe something was left in there?"

There could be some blood there but probably the Voidbringers had already left.

Storms.

Rob’s face remained neutral. Cake, cake, cake, how would the cake have gotten there?

”I don’t know,” Rob said. Sometimes the answer was no answer. “I was too distracted by the gunfire, I didn’t even notice. That reminds me,” he pointed to his face. Try to change the topic.

“I think I’m still in shock.” Hopefully the doctors would believe him, a kid involved in a “gunfight” and yet completely neutral in facial expressions.

“Okay. What kind of cake do you like?” Leona asked. “I make a mean chocolate.”

”Uh, that’ll be good.”

Leona raised her hands and inhaled glowing light. Her eyes turned a deep blue. A slice of cake dropped into the man’s lap.

“Now if you could just let us go, we have evil to slay.”

The police officer shook his head.

"Don't worry, young man. the doctors assured me, that you will be fine."

He closed his ledger.

"You and your friends may go home. We will compare your explanations to those of the others, and then come back to you, if we need to clarify some points."

He handed Rob and James his card, then they turned around and left.

Shana looked at the door after he left and then sighed.

"He's right, we should go home. Ben and I will be able to recover there better. A - known environment can do wonders."

====================

Miller raised an eyebrow when nothing happened.

"I see."

He got to his feet, glanced irritated at his lap and brushed away something wet. When had he gotten some water on his pants? No, it looked more like the cream sauce he had for lunch. The cake fell to the ground without him noticing. Nor did any of the other non-invested shoot a strange glance at the piece of cake. Although one of them surpressed a grin when he saw the huge spot on Millers pants.

"Thank you for the hint with the gardenhouse. We will look into that."

An officer came into the room and handed him some reports. The woman, Jamie had talked about self defense. That fit the story of these kids somehow. Minus the demons and the magic. And the cake.

"So in short: some of you got attacked and then you came and defended them. Do you want to add something to that, or maybe change parts of your testimonies?"

He asked them, gave them a chance to finally, finally tell the truth. Why did he always end up with the crazy ones? A bunch of children playing hero, and he had so hoped for a quiet shift.

Eiss shook her head. “Never mind, you were right,” she whispered to Miller. It annoyed her that she’d been wrong, but then again, demons and magic? What had she been thinking?

If you want to, we could rp Miller and Eiss comparing the stories of the two groups, and then see where it leads us. So that you didn't introduce her for nothing.

Leona has a flair for the dramatic(read: cake)

The cake fell to the ground. Leona swore. The cake’s icing had left a rather suspicious stain in the officials shorts.

“Don’t believe me? Don’t think the world’s at stake? I can do much more than make cake. I can fill your lungs with poison. with a thought.” or argument with the air, she added. “I can summon fire, wind, and rain. I can turn you to stone.” She realized this sounded threatening.

And the papers on the table burst into flame, before turning to more cake.

Sorana, where do you think that would lead?

Just so that we're all on the same page: Sha 'Theoxis prevents him from noticing magic. Effects, yes, things are off, yes, but no magic?

That's how I interpret what we voted on, so he can't see the cake. The fire can be explained by a sleight of hand, but I'd exchange the cake for water for his brain.

Any other opinions on the matter?

I thought of it as they can sometimes tell what’s going on, just not exactly how it’s happening - so like he would’ve thought she threw the cake at him, or something, but he’d be able to tell it was there. I think this all works fine how you wrote it.

Usually, I would have gone your way, but he knows for sure, she has no cake with her. So the moment he acknowledges the cake, is the moment he has to accept that there are things he can't explain.

I can write it like that, but please keep in mind what this means. If the police know who we are, gov will as well. That could lead to tests, tries to use us, ... there is a lot of rp potential, and of course we can always state that they leave us alone, as we decide what the npcs do.

Honestly I don't want to decide this on my own.

Basically the question is: Should Miller accept there is magic? What do you think the larger consequences should be?
