Jace was ready, he was just waiting for Ax. They were late already, but that was fine- besides, it was about the memories they made, not how long were there. He smiled. Prom- he was taking Ax to prom. The idea itself was exciting- until he saw Ax's phone light up with a text. Something from a group-chat... Something about void bringers and them all being in trouble... Jace bit his lip worriedly and knocked on the door he'd let Ax use to change behind. "You might wanna see this... I don't know if we'll make it to prom..." He hated that idea, but... still... These were their friends. He hadn't been in long- so he didn't understand what a void bringer was quite yet- but he knew that he wanted to help them Maybe Ax hadn't put on the yellow-orange tux yet at all. That would be nice... Jace immediately started changing back into his normal clothes, not wanting to ruin his violet suit.

Rob looked back to Shana and quickly shook his head.

“You’re injured,” he said simply. A bolt of red lightning cracked through the air and was blocked by the shield, the cloth taking up more stormlight to endure the blow. Rob took a peek from the side of the shield and quickly hid behind it again as another lightning bolt flashed where his head had been and made a smooth, sinuous cut within the asphalt of the road.

“Can you make the ground frictionless for them?” He asked. Dustbringer. Shana was a dustbringer. That means she had the Abrasion surge, right?

“If you can trip them over I can liquify the ground, stick them there.”

Shana nodded, reached out for his pouch and grabbed one of the crystals there. He knew she could do it, she had made him trip before, so he was probably only asking to be polite. Inhaling she smiled when she felt the familiar unruly storm inside of her, just a little bit, but enough to close the gash on her side and to make her feel strong, lively again. Concentrating she reached for the stormlight, held it close, then pictured what she was going to do. Another blot of red lightning cracked through the air and she counted, waited until the next one was blocked by the shield, then stood up.

Witha sewwping gesture of her hand she slickened the ground where the Voidbringers stood, stried to be as fast as possible, to catch them all at the same time. She was faster, more efficient with Division, but given their limited supply of stormlight she figured that Rob was right. Abrasion was the better choice for the situation.

The violett crystal grew its roots deep into the group, surrounding the Voidbringers close to him with its errie violett and almost black glow. Their eyes changed slightly, their movements becakme faster, their bolts stronger.

The sudden lack of friction caught the Voidbringer’s off guard and all but one of them collapsed on their backs (and a few o their stomachs) to the ground. Quickly moving from behind the shield’s cover Rob slapped the ground with his open palm and quickly slapped it again, the Voidbringer’s who’d fallen sinking and then getting stuck in the solid ground.

The one that hadn’t jogged and joined the group enhanced by the plant thing, and before Rob could get back behind the shield an enhanced lightning bolt sheared a jagged path into his thigh.

Pain blossomed in his leg, a burning sensation and Rob crawled behind the shield before two more bolts pierced the ground where he’d been, obviously taking advantage of his injury. He kept his face neutral and breathed in some stormlight, though the wound took a worryingly long amount of time to heal, and even then it ached somewhat.

The more stormlight they used, the less the shield had. As to prove the point an enhanced lightning bolt hit the piece of the cloth and the shield shuddered violently with the impact. If they kept using the surges the shield would be as useless as it had began out — a simple piece of cloth.

“There’s only those ones left,” he said to Shana, pointing to the plant-enhanced Voidbringers. Whatever they were, they used that plant the Radiants had taken care of by that encounter weeks ago. That was good, it meant they knew how to remove of the plant. However, they hadn’t ever practised it with several powered-up enemies nearby.

Leona changed into jeans and a t shirt with a LoTR meme plastered across it. She strapped Azriel onto her back along with a quiver of arrows and grabbed a bag of spheres from her desk. She attached daggers to sheaths on her highs and strode out the door. “What car are we taking?” she asked, retrieving her bow.

Jace blushed, then held his phone out to him. "Um.... something about voidbringers? I think the group is in danger..." He bit his lip. "We may have to skip prom this year..." He felt disappointed, but hey- that wasn't as important as their friends. "I'll have to wait to see you in that suit."

Flid went into the garage and grabbed the keys. "Probably the van, so we can pick everyone else up as well." He paused. "Wait, do you know how to drive?"

Ashlyn watches as absolute chaos erupts in front of her. She steps back a little farther into the shadows so she doesn’t get spotted. Every instinct in her body is telling her to go out and help but her logical side held her back. This is obviously something bigger, something normal people don’t know about, normal people like me.

“Well I can drive. Just not legally, but at this point I don’t think it matters.” she said.  “how comfortable are you with ranged combat?”

Rob’s thigh still ached. Wounds weren’t supposed to ache after they’d been stormlight healed.

He peeked begind the shield again as more and more lightning bolts began rattling it, weakening it. The plant they used seemed to be growing, creeping over the road in veiny vines.

One of the vines came near they were and Rob sunk it underneath some ground.

There was only a couple options left. They were running out of stormlight, and sometimes you just had to do the normal thing. After sending an emergency message to the Radiant group chat, Rob called a familiar phone number.

“Nine-one-one, what’s your emergency?” A woman’s voice came out on the other side of the line.

“Um, there are some people with guns, trying to shoot us,” Rob said.

“Alright, don’t panic. Where are you?” Rob told them the street. Even if the cops couldn’t handle the Voidbringers, they’d probably still add pressure. Or they’d be a distraction.

“What’s your name?” Rob hung up.

James approached her from behind. "Well, so much for secrecy" He said, "I believe we met at the cookout" he added. "I'm James Freeman, Knight Radiant of the Order of Bondsmiths. And you- have just stumbled into a much bigger world."

Ashlyn spins around, a hand subconscious reaching to her hip. Letting the hand drop she lets out a sigh, “yeah, figured as much.”

"You're quite perceptive." James said, sighing as he overlooked the battlefield. "Normally I don't like to do this, but today seems to be a special occasion."

I won't be a blade for you, if that's what you're asking The Nightwatcher said. "Well is there anything you can do?" James whispered in exasperation, entirely uncaring that to Ashlyn's eyes, he was speaking to thin air. I could offer you the blade of evil's bane, The Nightwatcher said, pensively, But beware, for that gift is more curse than boon. "I won't let my friends die. Nightwatcher- I will accept your boon and curse." 

Suddenly, James' vision was veiled by a cloud of black smoke that swirled around him before coalescing into a black-hilted blade with a strange silvery sheath. Hello, Said the blade, in a voice entirely unfitting of its ominous appearance, Would you like to destroy some evil today?

Yep, it's Nightblood. I figured that since NW offered Dalinar Nightblood in the Valley, our variation on her would also possess the black blade. Also, I think James needs a bit more conflicting forces for his pacifism arc.

“A sword?” Ashlyn asks, looking at it critically, “I guess with everything else I shouldn’t question. Got anything other than a medieval weapon that I can use?”

"Unfortunately not", said James, still slightly distracted by the talking sword, that was pleading for him to draw it, and use it to destroy evil. "Do you have like, Mace, or something?"

"Darn," Ax said. "Can you read it to me?" He ducked back into the room and started getting his normal clothes back on.

Blushing she positioned herself better, eyed the three in front of them.

"And I didn't bring a weapon."

With a gesture of her fingers she asked Mahad to look around, if someone else was available, if they all had heard the call. Who knew, maybe someone else was attacked as well. She forced herself to take a deep breath, and then continued.

"I have no experience with a shield."

she told Rob quietly.

"But I am more or less useful in hand to hand. I could draw their attention for you to finish them off."

The Voidbringer laughed and lifted his hand, a ball of a strange colour forming around his fingers.

Outside the Voidbringer spread out. the crystal was starting to glow in an eerie violett light. The Voidbringer, a woman, knelt down and placed it on the ground, where it pulsed softly, an aura of sickening violett something forming around it.

Jace read it out loud to Ax, reading the explanation that was in the group chat about what had happened and where they were. "I don't know what to do... should I come with you? Would I even be able to help...?" He was still barely able to summon any stormlight, and he needed time to fully create his illusions when he made them.
